Home Tamilnadu Map Villupuram District Profile Print VILLUPURAM 3/6/2017 Home TamilNadu Map Villupuram District Profile Print VILLUPURAM DISTRICT PROFILE • Villuppuram district is bounded by Bay of Bengal and the union Territory of Pondicherry in the east, Kancheepuram and Tiruvannamalai districts in the north, Cuddalore and Perambalur districts in the south and Dharmapuri and Salem districts in the west. • The District lies between 11º30’00’’ to 12º35’00’’ North Latitude, and 78º37’00’’ to 80º00’00’’ East Longitude and has an areal extent of 7190 sq.km. • There are 22 Blocks, 1099 Villages and 4883 Habitations in the District. Physiography and Drainage: • Villupuram district can be divided into 3 classes’ viz., Hilly terrains, Plain terrain and coastal plains. • The hills are found in the western part of the district and they are Kalrayan and Ginjee hills falling under Kallakurichi and Ginjee taluks respectively. • Plain terrain occurs in the middle part of this district, while the coastal plains lie in the eastern part of the district in and around Marakanam and Vanur taluks. • The major rivers draining the district are Tondiar, Pennaiyar and Vellar. RANJITH KUMAR Research Associate, Dept. of Women's Studies, Alagappa University, India [email protected] Abstract The scheduled caste population is being deprived segment of the population, and it is necessary to see its progress in terms of demographic and socio-economic conditions to improve it with the help of existing and innovative programs available with the government and the voluntary organizations so that social and economic equality efforts could be made possible. The percentage of scheduled caste population and the other demographic characteristics such as sex ratio, literacy rate, and work participation rate of Tamil Nadu seem to be desirably high as compared to the national averages of the same. It is found that among 32 districts of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvalluvar district tops with 34 % of scheduled caste population, Tirunelveli tops in sex ratio in total and rural areas, Kanniyakumari tops in literacy rate in total, rural, urban among both males and females, Tiruppur tops in work participation rate both rural and urban areas and more or less among both males and females. Karur district has more male-female differences and Coimbatore district has more urban-rural differences in literacy rate. Chennai district accounts for more male-female differences and Kanniyakumari accounts for more urban-rural differences in the work participation rate. It may be suggested that the District, which has more proportion of scheduled caste population with low sex ratio both in total and child populations and high gender and residential differences in literacy rate and works participation rate may be more concentrated with suitable awareness and reformative social welfare measures.

[G.O. Ms. No. 118, Home (Transport-III), 18th February 2011, ñ£C 6, F¼õœÀõ˜ ݇´-2042.] No. II(2)/HO/78(b)/2011. Whereas, a reciprocal agreement with regard to the plying of transport vehicles on Inter-State routes was entered into between the Governments of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in G.O. Ms. No. 899, Home, dated the 12th April, 1985 and published with the Home Department Notification No. II (2)/HO/1990 (h)/1985 at pages 1-15 in Part II—Section 2 of the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette Extraordinary, dated the 19th April 1985; And, Whereas, the Governments of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have agreed to enter into a first supplemental agreement under Section 88 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (Central Act 59 of 1988), in respect of operation of Stage Carriage Services by the State Transport Undertakings and Private Operators on Inter-State routes and also countersignature of goods carriage permits. Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (6) of Section 88 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (Central Act 59 of 1988) the Governor of Tamil Nadu, hereby publishes the following First Supplemental Agreement entered into between the Government of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the draft of the same, having been previously published as required by sub-section (5) of Section 88 of the said Act in the Home Department Notification No.
