I Saw the Gold by Florence L. Whitted SIWTBE I t8LB I By Florence l. (Bunnie Waer) Whitted ,. SIWTBI t8LB By Florence L. (Bunnie Waer) Whitted Introduction In introduction to the articles on the following pages, I would like to state clearly that they are all very real facts and not fiction. The newspaper articles are all taken from local papers. I have the original clippings from the papers. I hope someone finds the gold mine during my life time. And when it is found I hope that it will be known as Copyright, By 1973, the PAT BAILEY MINE. Florence l. (Bunnie Weer) Whitted ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. Printed By Oakland Printing Company Oakland, Oregon 5 I SIW TBE GOlD There are many people still interested in the treasure that lies in the earth, I am sure. But there are very few of the younger generation that can remember the rich gold strikes in this state. They think only of the Alaska country. In the following I am giving true accounts of the Oregon mines, and I am sure there are still more to be discovered. Many times I have heard old timers tell of mines being discovered in several areas in Douglas County. But their loca tions were always lost before they could be filed on or really being established as an authenticated fact. Most of these were in remote areas and the miner was not able to find his way back to his find. Some of the old timers swore to the truth of one rumor. This rumor told of an old Indian that would leave his cabin for less than a half hour and return with several good size nuggets. This was in the Tyee area. Mention was not made as to the quality of these nuggets. None seem to know what ever happened to the old Indian. Many people looked for the mine in the area of that cabin but the gold was never found. The vicinity of Coffee Creek, near Days Creek, was sup posed to have held another mine. This was very rich, as the story was told. As far as I know, this was never opened or filed upon. Around the turn of the Century, and a few years before, there were some very rich ore discoveries made in the Jose phine County vicinity. This turned the miners main interest to that area, leaving Douglas County areas to wait for a better time. Grants Pass had been my home until 1914. My father 1892 (Tin Mine) had owned a mine on Williams Creek, known then as the old Doney Pocket. Many were the discussions of mining that I "Two prospectors who had spent the last year in heard over those years. The display did not seem to cause much comment, in Nevada, Mexico and other mining districts." but I was really fascinated. 1894 (W. J. WIMER) In the following, I am giving a review of the discoveries that were made in Josephine County during those years. The (Waldo, Oregon) articles were published in the Grants Pass Courier, which was "W. J. Leslie Costa The Early Days Live BACK IN THE GAME If I was just a little stronger e I’d tear down the walls that stand between us e If love could last just a little longer e I’d belong to the things I’m thinking of e Time is time when you’re last on line e And you’re waiting e To be back in the game e If I saw where this road could lead e I’d burn down the miles of destiny e The more I know the less I see e I’m dazed and confused in this world of greed e Time is time when you’re last on line e And you’re waiting e To be back in the game e If I knew I was on my way e I’d find the words to scream and shout e Hey this time it’ll be OK e There’s no guarantees in this world of doubt e Time is time when you’re last on line e And you’re waiting e To be back in the game e If you lost your dream e And all you see e Is the road between the strong and weak e Just tell yourself e There’s a light in the distance e Where all is forgotten e And it all makes some sense e Then you’re back in the game e Back in the game e You’re back in the game... THURSDAY, JUNE 9, 2011 I sit. Waiting. My heart is thumping. It’s 5:36 and I stare through the privacy glass of my Audi at the front door of her building. I know I’m early, but I’ve been looking forward to this moment all day. I’m going to see her. I shift in my seat in the rear of the car. The atmosphere feels stifling, and though I’m trying to remain calm, the anticipation and anxiety are knotting my stomach and pressing down on my chest. Taylor sits in the driver’s seat, staring straight ahead, wordless, looking his usual composed self, while I can barely breathe. It’s irritating. Damn it. Where is she? She’s inside—inside Seattle Independent Publishing. Set back beyond a wide, open sidewalk, the building is shabby and in need of renovation; the company’s name is etched haphazardly in the glass, and the frosted effect on the window is peeling. The business behind those closed doors could be an insurance company or an accounting firm—they’re not displaying their wares. Well, that’s something I can rectify when I take control. SIP is mine. Almost. I’ve signed the revised heads of agreement. Taylor clears his throat and his eyes dart to mine in the rearview mirror. “I’ll wait outside, sir,” he says, surprising me, and he climbs out of the car before I can stop him. Maybe he’s more affected by my tension than I thought. Am I that obvious? Maybe he’s tense.

  • Honors Thesis Final 4/16 Silas Crewe-Kluge
Where Do You Go When You Go Home? Narrative Studies of Gender Euphoria CAS Honors Thesis by Silas Crewe-Kluge 1 Contents Introduction | 2 Sawyer | 8 Entry I for the Photography of Jess T. Dugan | 37 Recall Drift | 41 Entry II | 69 Good To Be Here With You | 73 Entry III | 101 Acknowledgments | 107 2 Introduction I understand the world through the stories our bodies tell, and the stories we can tell about our bodies. I have been trained to understand the world this way for most of my life, first as a dancer and a choreographer, and now as a writer. When I began the first iteration of this project, I didn’t know how relevant these interests would become. It has been years now since I first started asking questions about gender euphoria, and over time it became apparent to me that stories were, as they often are, the truest form my work here could take. This collection, in its four parts, is written from and orbits this same central theme: gender euphoria. An informal term mostly utilized in online queer spaces, gender euphoria is a play on and inversion of gender dysphoria, a diagnosis of discomfort with one’s own body that is often necessary to gain access to things like hormones, surgeries, and legitimacy. Whereas gender dysphoria exists as a medical term, a symptom to be cured to achieve normalcy, gender euphoria indicates something more utopic and possibly more accurate. Many transgender and gender non-conforming (GNC) people do experience gender dysphoria, but not every one of us.
