The Pliocene units were deposited in three adjacent subbasins, Hatay-Samandağ (HS), Altınözü-Babatorun (AB), and İskenderun-Arsuz (İA); the first two are also known as the Hatay Graben. Basin configurations and shape, environmental evolution, and faunal compositions were affected by differential tectonic histories since the Late Miocene. In total 162 species (94 gastropod, 61 bivalve, and 7 scaphopod) are recorded, 80 of which are recorded for the first time from the region. The occurrence of tropical stenohaline benthic taxa (such as Persististrombus coronatus and some conid gastropod species) and a number of chronostratigraphically well-constrained mollusc species shows a Zanclean age. -

They are inter- preted as proximal tempestites and contain a densely packed, polytaxic molluscan assemblage. The faunal composition and taphonomic features of shells indicate that transport occurred from wave- or current-agitated nearshore habitats into a dysaerobic, pelitic, inner shelf environment. This pelitic environment was colonized by a single molluscan species, the chemosymbiotic Thyasira michelottii, which occurs in life position, as confirmed by valve articulation and preservation of the inhalant tube and postero-ventral tunnel networks. In contrast to the depauperate autochthonous fauna, the skeletal concentrations contain a highly diverse molluscan fauna. We identified 130 species from more than 4200 individuals, but two bivalve species, Timoclea marginata and Loripes dentatus, strongly dominate each of the five samples from different shell beds. In contrast, the diversity (measured as species richness and heterogeneity diversity) and the fre- quency distribution of shell sizes differ strongly between the five shell beds. -

This report is the fourth part of the monograph of the surprisingly rich assemblage of gastropods occurring in the so- called Pleurotoma Clays of Middle Miocene (Badenian) age, exposed in the environs of Korytnica in the Holy Cross Mountains, Central Poland. It contains characteristics of 101 prosobranch species of one family, the Turridae. Within this assemblage, five species are new for the science (including one, formerly reported from Korytnica, but deter- mined erroneously); of the recognized species as many as 72 have not hitherto been reported from Korytnica, and 66 from the Miocene of Poland. As the new species established are: Clavatula kowalewskii sp.nov., Perrona (Perrona) czarnockii sp.nov., Turricula (Surcula) korytnicensis sp.nov., Cythara (Mangelia) cibori sp.nov., and Bela sanctacrucen- sis sp.nov. The large diversity of the species characterized the mollusc fauna from the famous occurrences of the Făget Basin (Lăpugiu de Sus, Nemeşeşti, Coştei). The assemblage from Lăpugiu de Sus represents one of the richest European Badenian fossil fauna. The collected gastropods (190 specimens) have been determined, systematically arranged and illustrated.
