Information about the scientific collections is made available more and more often. The digitisation of such resources allows us to verify their value and share these records with other scientists – and they are usually rich in taxa and unique in the world. Moreover, such information significantly enriches local and global knowledge about biodiversi- ty. The digitisation of the resources of the Zoology Research Group, University of Silesia in Katowice (Poland) allowed presenting a substantial collection of scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha). The collection counts 9369 slide-mounted specimens, about 200 alcohol-preserved samples, close to 2500 dry specimens stored in glass vials and 1319 amber inclu- sions representing 343 taxa (289 identified to species level), 158 genera and 36 families (29 extant and seven extinct). -

(2004): Fungi on Juncus trifidus in the Czech Republic (II) with taxonomical notes to some species - Czech Mycol. 56: 203-221 In this second contribution, other eight species of ascomycetes and anamorphic fungi on Juncus trifidus collected in the Czech Republic are described (Ascochyta junci, Lachnum diminutum, Phaeosphaeria vagans, Phialocephala sp., Pseudoseptoria sp., Pycnothyrium junci, Stagonospora junciseda, Unguicularia sp.). Additional localities of Arthrinium cuspidatum and Niptera eriophori described in the first contribution are given. A fungus previously published as Septoria sp. was identified as Septoria chanousiana. Additional material of some fungi (Ascochyta junci, Septoria chanousiana, S. minuta, Unguicularia millepunctata) from other substrata and countries was studied with the aim to compare it with material from Juncus trifidus from the Czech Republic. Numbers of fungi on Juncus trifidus at studied localities are discussed. Festuca Altissima All
Festuca altissima All. Wood Fescue Festuca altissima differs from most other Festuca species (unlike the allied genus Schedonorus) in being a tall broad-leaved grass. It has a scattered distribution from Bristol to northern Scotland, with concentrations in the Lake District, Tyne catchment and Glasgow area. It is evergreen and can be recorded throughout the year, flowering from mid- summer. Most sites are humid, being close to flowing water in crevices of shady rocks in gorges and denes. Previously under-recorded, its distinctive appearance is now better known, but it seems to be in rapid decline in some districts despite being considered as of ‘least concern’. ©John Richards IDENTIFICATION more; and Brachypodium sylvaticum which is also paler and more drooping, and is a smaller plant. While height growth is primarily driven by envi- ronmental conditions, growth of basal area appears limited by growing space. We adopted the spatial neighborhood technique in this study to determine the effect that competition has on tree basal area in three forests in Greece: a) mixed Norway spruce (Picea abies) forest, b) pure European beech (Fagus sylvatica) forest, and c) a mixed Turkish pine (Pinus brutia) forest. We randomly selected in total 337 sample (target) trees.
