Emergency Drills At GSA, we take safety seriously. There are many steps that we take to assure that we employ all the needed measures for safety at school and we are very fortunate to have other agencies that work with us to monitor and assess these measures. Each year, schools are required to submit an Emergency Operation Plan to the state. This comprehensive plan outlines all procedures and safety precautions planned for our school. This plan is shared with law enforcement and emergency personnel in our area and work together to be sure the plan is effective. This plan includes procedures for all the emergency drills that we do with the students. Our school has a Safety Committee and we work with both the Cheshire County Sheriff’s Department and NH State Police from Troop C as well as the Fire and Emergency personnel in Gilsum. The 2018 NH School Safety Preparedness Task Force Report has prompted continued involvement with these agencies. Our work integrating a Social and Emotional Learning initia- tive such as Choose Love was also mentioned in the report. I hope you have been getting the notices that we distribute each time we have a drill at school. This month, we’ll have our monthly fire drill along with a lockdown and an Earthquake drill as we participate in the Great Northeast Shake Out held each October. This all fit very well with our attention to Fire Safety, too. Please talk to your children about safety in your home. I’ve attached the October 2019 Safety Educator with tips for safety at home.
