Robroyston/Millerston Community Growth area (Ward 21) - New railway station – Financial contribution approved. 10 Bailie Cameron, Executive Member for Economic Development, presented a report regarding the progress made to deliver a new railway station at Robroyston/Millerston (Ward 21), advising that (1) the Robroyston/Millerston Community Growth Area comprised of 1,600 houses and associated community facilities and to serve the travel demands of these new residents, a new railway station was proposed on the Glasgow Queen Street to Cumbernauld railway line and, through a Section 75 planning agreement, £4m would be secured for the provision of the new station, the associated park and ride car parks and access roads; (2) following acceptance by Transport Scotland of the principles of a new station, ongoing discussions had been held with Transport Scotland, Network Rail, Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) and Stewart Milne, the developer, to progress the delivery of the new station and the works undertaken by Network Rail as part of the EGIP electrification scheme had taken cognisance of the proposal and the enhanced reconstruction of the Bogside Road Bridge had removed the need to form a new footbridge at the new station; (3) a site had been identified for the new station and the appraisal had assessed the options and Network Rail had agreed that the project currently sat at the Governance for Railway Investment Projects (GRIP) stage 4 and had estimated a cost of £417,000 to the GRIP 4 stage design work and to produce a preliminary station design; and (4) SPT had agreed to provide a contribution of £100,000 to incorporate the park and ride element of the new station and Network Rail would be contracted to undertake the work and the Council’s contribution towards the delivery of design work for the GRIP 4 stage was £317,000. After consideration, the committee approved a contribution of £317,000 towards the delivery of design work by Network Rail (GRIP 4 stage) to produce a preliminary station design..
