Following the deposit of the instrument of ratification by Portugal on 28 October 1994 of the Convention on the elimination of double taxation in connection with the adjustment of profits of associated enterprises, signed in Brussels on 23 July 1990 O , the Convention will enter into force, in accordance with Article 18 thereof, on 1 January 1995 in relations between the States which have already deposited instruments of ratification of it (Belgium, Denmark, the Federal Republic of Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom) and Portugal .

The Commission has installed a telex with an automatic answering device which gives the conversion rates in a number of currencies. This service is available every day from 3.30 p.m. until 1 p.m. the following day. Users of the service should do as follows : — call telex number Brussels 23789 ; — give their own telex code ; — type the code 'cccc' which puts the automatic system into operation resulting in the transmission of the conversion rates of the ecu ; — the transmission should not be interrupted until the end of the message, which is marked by the code 'fffP . Note: The Commission also has an automatic telex answering service (No 21791) and an automatic fax answering service (No 296 10 97) providing daily data concerning calculation of the conversion rates applicable for the purposes of the common agricultural policy.

As foreseen in paragraph 11 of the guidelines published in Official Journal of the European Communities No C 180 of 1 July 1994, page 29, the European Commission decided, at its meeting on 12 October 1994, the list of areas eligible for assistance in the framework of a Community initiative concerning the economic conversion of coal-mining areas, as presented below. References to areas eligible under Objective 2 refer to the initial list of declining industrial areas concerned by Objective 2 as published in Official Journal of the European Communities No L 81 of 24 March 1994.
