What’s Going Down? 2021 Introduction We are delighted to present the 'What's Going Down' brochure 2021. “Following an unprecedented year of restrictions I am delighted that at the time of printing, life is returning to a little more normality and the council is able to promote and host a range of exciting events and promotions across the borough for a wide range of age groups. (*Subject to Government coronavirus restrictions permitting) One key date for the diary includes the return of the annual Snap Dragon Children’s Festival at Argents Mead 4 to 6 August, see page 5 for full details. The brochure is also packed with advice and ideas to help keep you all safe this summer. As the Children and Young People’s Champion it has been remarkable to witness how resilient our young people have been during the pandemic, but what a pleasure to see them returning to school, being able to socialise with friends again and getting back out in the community. Active play and bounce Active play and bounce is a supervised session for under-five’s encouraging social interaction between children and parents alike. With a bouncy castle, soft play equipment, early years play equipment – all available for the children to use - this session is a fantastic way for your child to exercise and have fun at the same time! Adventure soft play Our three-storey soft play area has a toddler area for 0 to 5 years and a junior area for 5 to 12 years and features slides, ball pools, rollers, bish- bash bags and much more. Gymnastics Gymnastics is a fantastic sport for all ages and our sessions are developed through our close links with British Gymnastics. Trampolining Trampoline sessions are great fun for anyone from 5 years old up to 14 years. Whether you enjoy bouncing in the back garden and want to improve your skills, feel like trying It for the first time or are looking to improve you existing skills, we have something for you. 9 Hinckley Leisure Centre cont’d Badminton Badminton is an easy sport to learn and can be a very social game. The speed of the shuttlecock also makes this one of the quickest of the racket sports. It can be played at any pace making it enjoyable for all ages. Contact reception to book a court. Swimming Swimming is a great way to stay physically active, whatever your age or ability. Whether you’re lane swimming to maintain and develop your fitness, splashing around with the family or learning to swim so that you can join in the fun, we have something for you.

    Midland Main Line Electrification programme 247 KEY MMLe — Midland Main Line Red potenal locaon of Hs2 Brown Leicester to Burton Line Purple West Coast Main Line Green Birmingham to ugby Black other lines Yellow diamonds %uncons POST HENDY REVIEW—UPDATE The Hendy Enhancements delivery plan update (Jan 2016) Electrification of the Midland Main Line has resumed under plans announced as part of Sir Peter Hendy’s work to reset Network Rail’s upgrade programme. Work on electrifying the Midland Main Line, the vital long-distance corridor that serves the UK’s industrial heartland, will continue alongside the line-speed and capacity improvement works that were already in hand. Electrification of the line north of Bedford to Kettering and Corby is scheduled to be completed by 2019, and the line north of Kettering to Leicester, Derby/Nottingham and Sheffield by 2023. Outputs The Midland Main line Electrification Programme known as the MMLe is split into two key output dates, the first running from 2014-2019 (known as CP5) and the second, 2019-2023 (CP6). There are a number of sub projects running under the main MMLe programme which are delivering various improvements in the Leicestershire area. Each sub project has dependencies with each other to enable the full ES001- Midland Main Line electrification programme to be achieved A number of interfaces and assumptions link to these programmes and their sub projects will affect Leicestershire. ES001A- Leicester Capacity The proposed 4 tracking between Syston and Wigston is located under sub project ES001A - Leicester Capacity which can be found on page 27 of Network Rails enhancements delivery plan .

    Bosworth at Redemore: Focus and Context PETER J. FOSS THE MOST SIGNIFICANT local document to come to light in recent years (that is, since my work of the 1980s) relevant to the location of the battle of Bosworth is a demesne terrier belonging to the Abbey of St Mary de Pratis (Leicester Abbey) identified by Professor Barrie Cox in his contribution to the archaeological survey undertaken by the Battlefields Trust in 2005–09. The document1 is dated to between 1467 and 1484 and itemises fields, furlongs and meadows in the township of Stoke Golding (‘Stoke’) at the end of the fifteenth century, on the cusp of the battle of Bosworth. I would like here to offer a brief examination of this document and, together with other local records, show how it helps to focus on the place where the battle of Bosworth was fought, and how this reflects on the context of the archaeological discoveries made in 2009. I would also like to correct and rebal- ance a number of recent misconceptions. A Leicester Abbey Demesne Terrier The document identifies three open fields – Halmorefelde, Garbrodfelde and Whytmorefelde – which can be equated roughly with later named areas (from the early seventeenth century at least) in the same parish; that is, the later-named ‘Crownehillfielde’ with Garbrodfelde, ‘Milnehillfield’ with Whytmorefelde, and Halmorefelde with the area that lay south of the manor-house and its park (the ‘Park’ and ‘Great Pasture’ marked on Trimnell’s map of 1637).2 The inference has been made, reasonably, that the change of name from Garbrodfelde to Crownehillfelde

    Weekly COVID-19 Surveillance Report in Leicestershire Cumulative data from 01/03/2020 - 29/09/2021 This report summarises the information from the surveillance system which is used to monitor the cases of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in Leicestershire. The report is based on daily data up to 29th September 2021. The maps presented in the report examine counts and rates of COVID-19 at Middle Super Output Area. Middle Layer Super Output Areas (MSOAs) are a census based geography used in the reporting of small area statistics in England and Wales. The minimum population is 5,000 and the average is 7,200. Disclosure control rules have been applied to all figures not currently in the public domain. Counts between 1 to 5 have been suppressed at MSOA level. Terrain: Start to Checkpoint 1 - Flat paved, Checkpoint 1 to 2 – Uneven, muddy during wet weather, Checkpoint 2 to 4 - Paved hilly. Checkpoint 4 to Finish - Flat paved, Bus stops: Regularly spaced along the route from start to Checkpoint 1 (No.154) and from Check point 4 to finish (No.127). Starting at Quorn Cross, the centre and main crossroads of the village, set off along Meeting Street. Beyond the award-winning Memorial Garden and the flood barrier to the left flows Buddon Brook, whose course we will be following all the way upstream to Swithland Reservoir. The many items of interest along Meeting Street and then Chaveney Road are explained in walk 5 in this series. In this case we walk about half a mile before turning left and joining the public right of way at the footpath sign just past Elms Drive (Checkpoint 1 on the map) Soon after turning left, we pass the site of the former Chaveney’s Water Mill (also called Quorn Water Mill, now Mill Farm). From the 16th to the 19th century, when Swithland Reservoir was built, a mill race from the brook was the motive power for this corn mill; the actual site of the old millwheel is not visible from the public footpath. Just after we enter the brookside path itself, you can see the remains of an ancient moated site beyond the far bank.

    Stoke Golding Neighbourhood Plan: Submission 2020-2039 Stoke Golding Neighbourhood Plan: Submission Welcome to the Neighbourhood Plan for Stoke Golding. The plan is a culmination of the results of the 2016 questionnaire and consultations with local parishioners, businesses and other stake holders which shows how we would like to see our village evolve. It recognises the rural character of our Parish as well as its unique heritage. The plan appreciates that Stoke Golding residents would like to have a greater influence on the overall shape and development of their village over the next few years in many areas including biodiversity, maintaining important views, protecting our heritage and landscape, renewable energy, infrastructure and open spaces. It also determines what type of housing should take place and where we would choose to put it. The production of the plan has been led by the Neighbourhood Plan Advisory Committee on behalf of the Parish Council. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved in the process along the way.     NORTHWEST MINING HERITAGE TRAIL LEICESTERSHIRE'S MINING HERITAGE TRAIL Introduction Welcome to the Mining Heritage Trail. This pleasant walk through part of the National Forest will take you through a variety of scenery in North West Leicestershire and show you examples of many aspects of the area's rich history. The circular route is approximately 9 miles long, linking the villages of Coleorton and Swannington with Snibston Discovery Park in Coalville. The trail has been signposted throughout with specially designed mining wheel signs on the waymark posts. This guide provides a description of the route and special features of interest to be found along the way as well as the location of car parking areas, public houses and picnic areas. NORTH WEST LEICESTERSHIRE The sites and buildings which you will see and pass as you follow the trail will give you an insight into the huge importance of the mining industry to the area over a period of nearly a thousand years. Coleorton, and nearby At the Heart of the National Forest Swannington were important centres of early coal mining activity, and some of the Coal Measures in the area are 250 million years old. These rich reserves which appeared at the surface in some areas and buried hundreds of feet underground in other areas provided the Beaumont family fortunes at Coleorton in the 15th and 16th Centuries which enabled them to build Partly Revised Rapid Reprint Coleorton Hall and the later fortunes of entrepreneurs like George Please note this is a re-issue of a leaflet produced in the Stephenson and his son Robert.
