With a few player changes going on in the senior side under Coach Sam Saif, it will be exciting to see how our senior side fair against the talent filled Roar Youth side. Equally, I have no doubt that our 18s will be out to improve their position in the rankings, making for some exciting football. I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all 24 of our youth players selected to attend state camps. A fantastic result for all of those players and their coaches. Until next time, sit back and enjoy some great football. GO THE FIRE!! Well done to all players and coaches playing a huge part in this process. We wish all players the very best of luck, and we look forward to further additions further down the track. With all junior and senior women’s squad not in action this weekend, it gives me a chance to have a look at our U18’s boys and Senior Men squad. I would also like to announce the arrivals of two new coaches as we look to strengthen our coaching ranks, firstly, Stuart Michael has taken over the reigns as Head Coach of our successful Skill Acquisition Program for 2016, Stuart will be assisted by our current U13’s boys Head Coach Connor Gordon who will be undertaking his FFA B licence in due course, and Abbi Wilkes who is our Head Coach for our U13’s girls squad who has just completed her advance C Youth course will be taking care of the SAP Girls program. I addition to the above, we welcome Dan Carswell to our NPL coaching ranks as our new U14’s boys coach, Dan is a UEFA B licensed coach and comes with a wealth of experience from the academy system in the UK, as well as holding positions as head coach of the Olympic development squad in the US at U14 boys level. Dan has also been tasked with developing our Elite Academy program, this is another area where Dan has vast experience and has major success in the past with developing similar programs in the US. Welcome to both coaches as we continue to strengthen our coaching workforce. On a final note we have spaces that are rapidly filling for our Easter Holiday program. Please visit our website for more details. Also we are looking for new recruits for our Elite Academy program for term 2, all interested players can visit our website and fill in the online application to request a trial. Enjoy the game. Melvyn Wilkes Technical Director of Coaching Sunshine Coast FC From the Senior Men’s Coach I would like to welcome all the players and staff from the Roar for this afternoon’s game. Since our last game at Brisbane City we have had a weekend off for Easter which came at the right time for us as we had three players out injured and it gave them time to get fit for this weekend. We are hoping that all will be fit. This is our first game in the Sunshine Coast Stadium so it will be a first for the new players Paul Mikula, Jordon Loy, Matt Lylle and Paul Brownlie let’s hope they all have a good game. After our last game Brisbane City we all think we now have a squad that can compete with any team in this league with the new players and the ones that were already here, it gives us a strong squad. Today’s game will be as tough as they come, any professional side will always be hard to beat so the players will have to play to their max to get any result. I would like the thank some people behind the scenes that put a lot of work into this club but never get noticed such as Melvyn, Lesley and Robyn who have worked so hard since Paul and I arrived five week ago with players moving in and out, new kit and equipment, thanks so much. Sam Saif Senior Men Coach Sunshine Coast FC From the Under 18 Boys’ Coach Good afternoon all, and thank you for coming to support the Sunshine Coast Fire sides. I would like to welcome the Brisbane Roar Youth for today’s game against our Under 18 side. I am sure they will bring a well organised side who will not be short on talent . With the improvements our 18s have been making from week to week I am sure it will be a well contested match, fitting for the stadium. The Fire 18s have not been short on scoring goals this season and hopefully after last week’s improvements defensively we can look to put a string of results together and move up the table. I would like to thank those involved in giving us the pleasure of playing at the stadium and hopefully we can reward you by putting on a great game featuring some of Queensland’s best young football talents. Just over half of Fire’s Under-12 Boys team have been selected so far including, Kyan Bryant, Samuel Klein, Dimitri Westwood-Pritchard, Kane Gibbs, Maxx Demerutis, Flynn Faulkner, Kyle Barnes and Ben Nassiep. Each of the boys progressed through Sunshine Coast FC’s Elite Academy and SAP programs over the last several years to finally start their first season in the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Under-12 Boys team in 2016. The Fire Under-12 Boys’ team have racked up 42 goals in their last five games and their hard work is paying off as their selection signifies them as being among the best players in Queensland for their age group. Kyan Bryant was in Sunshine Coast FC’s Elite Academy for two years and SAP academy for one year prior to successfully trialling for the Fire Under-12 Boys. “I loved being at Elite Academy and SAP; the coaches taught me a lot, like better passing, shooting, control and being able to run with the ball better,” Kyan said. “I really like playing for Fire, we’ve been doing pretty good so far and I’m excited for the rest of the season,” he said. Kyan’s mum, Alinda Bryant commends the Club’s coaching staff for their approach to development coaching. “Fire has offered Kyan a lot of opportunities for a variety of training with experienced coaches throughout the last three years,” Alinda said. “The different styles of coach training has been excellent in developing him as a more rounded player and ultimately allowed him to become part of an NPL team this year,” Alinda concluded.
