Some of my friends even turn to me for medical advice and, when required, I insist they see a doctor so that they can receive the appropriate care.

7. Any advice for aspiring nurses? đƫ Teamwork is crucial and it makes a great diference in the care we deliver. When caring for patients, nurses need to build on each other’s strengths and help one another. Together, we make an impact in the lives of our patients! To encourage residents to play a more active role in estate management, East Coast-Fengshan Town Council has organised a Residents Committee (RC) Estate Management Competition for all its 23 RCs.

The Residents Committee (RC) Estate Management Competition is now open! For the whole year, each estate will be assessed periodically and points will be given based on their performances.

9 SUMMARY OF WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat delivered the Budget speech on 18 February 2019. It was a wide-ranging and forward-looking one, with a strong focus on building a strong and united nation in the face of global changes.

Here is a summary of how this year’s budget will benefit you and your household.

1. BICENTENNIAL BONUS 1a. GST Voucher – Cash (Bicentennial Payment) & Workfare Bicentennial Bonus Lower-income Singaporeans will receive additional payments from the GST Voucher (GSTV) and Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) schemes in end 2019 to help them with their daily living expenses. đƫƫƫUp to $300 in GSTV – Cash (Bicentennial Payment) đƫƫƫWorkfare Bicentennial Bonus at 10% of the total annual payment received under WIS for Work Year 2018, with a minimum payment of $100.

1b. Personal Income Tax Rebate A Personal Income Tax Rebate of 50% of tax payable will be granted to all tax resident individuals for the Year of Assessment 2019 (i.e. for income earned in 2018). The rebate will be capped at $200 per taxpayer. This is estimated to cost about $280 million.

1c. Top-up to Edusave Accounts and Post-Secondary Education Accounts In 2019, the Government will provide younger Singaporeans with additional support for their education. There will be a one-of top-up to their Edusave accounts or Post-Secondary Education Accounts (PSEA), depending on their age. The top-up to the Edusave accounts is in addition to the annual Edusave contributions that the Government makes. The top-ups are expected to be made by mid-2019. This will benefit about 570,000 students.

2. MERDEKA GENERATION PACKAGE

Those eligible will be notified by April, and will receive their Merdeka Generation cards from June 2019.

REBATES FOR SERVICE AND CONSERVANCY CHARGES FOR ANOTHER YEAR

Eligible Singaporean households living in HDB flats will receive rebates to ofset between 1.5 and 3.5 months of S&CC charges. The rebates will cost about $132 million and benefit about 930,000 HDB households.

Students writing "Thank You" notes On 19 and 20 January 2019, Member of Parliament Mr Lim Swee Say presented the Edusave Awards & Education Merit Awards to students for their excellent eforts in both academics and skills such as Leadership and Character. Beaming with pride, parents and families cheered on as students received their awards. Recipients surprised their families with “Thank You” notes, in appreciation of their loved ones for showing them strong support and love. Valentine Run (also known as VRUN) is an annual event that celebrates love and the relationships with our loved ones. This year we held our 10th run on 24 February 2019 with more than 250 participants, and Member of Parliament Mr Lee Yi Shyan gracing the event. From couple and family games to carnival booths, there was a wide range of activities for all ages. What a fun way to bond with families and friends!

SIGLAP BREAKFAST WITH THE SENIORS On 13 February 2019, about 22 residents joined us for the monthly breakfast held for seniors living in Changi Village. Organised by the Changi Point Ubin Area Sub Committee, this event aims to create community bonding among its seniors. As this month's breakfast was held during the Chinese New Year period, we added a lo hei to the most important meal of the day, and our seniors had a great time tossing up good fortune that morning!

13 CELEBRATING PONGAL

The Pongal festival was celebrated on 20 February 2019 in Fengshan. Pongal, an important Tamil festival, signifies overflowing, which translates to abundance and prosperity. Member of Parliament Ms Cheryl Chan joined residents in various activities such as Pongal cooling, pot breaking (also known as Uri Adithal), rangoli displays and cultural musical performances. The celebration ended with a delicious vegetarian lunch served in traditional banana leaves.
