The veteran left-hander compiled a 9-3 record last season while sporting a 3.63 earned-run average that was fourth amongst league leaders. Balbach produced seven complete-game efforts in 14 starts on the way to logging the third-most innings (91.2) in the conference last season. Following his selection to the 2010 All-NEC First Team, Balbach continued his winning ways in the postseason. The senior southpaw went the distance, tossing 141 pitches, to notch an 8-3 victory over eventual-league champion Central Connecticut State at the 2010 NEC Tournament. Pitching best during the season’s stretch run, Balbach went 4-0 with a 1.85 ERA in his last six starts. Studying business, Balbach accounted for a 3.77 grade-point average. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the NEC looks forward to an exciting championship here at Dodd Stadium. We hope it is a memorable experience for fans and student-athletes alike. During the next three days, four talented teams will compete in a double-elimination tournament with the winner receiving a coveted spot in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship tournament. Consisting of 12 institutions of higher learning located throughout six states, the NEC is committed to providing opportunities for student-athletes to achieve their fullest potential both in athletic competition and in the classroom, as well as becoming an NCAA Division I leader for athletic success, academic achievement and integrity, sportsman- ship, equity and diversity, community partnership and national engagement. NEC member institutions include Central Connecticut State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Long Island, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's, Quinnipiac, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart, St. Francis (NY), Saint Francis (PA) and Wagner. Bryant University will become a core member of the NEC in 2012 upon completion of the five-year NCAA Division I reclassification period. NEC institutions span a number of diverse locations, from the urban bustle of Brooklyn, NY to the rural settings of Loretto, PA and Emmitsburg, MD, to the beaches and shoreline of West Long Branch, NJ. But when it comes to intercollegiate athletics, the goal of the NEC is consistent - to provide its members the opportunity to participate in quality competition at the Division I level while operating programs that are fully integrated in the academic mission of each institution. The NEC’s commitment to academic excellence has translated into national recognition for both individual student-athletes and the league’s member institutions as a whole. NEC student-athletes consis- tently graduate at well above the national average and its athletic programs continue to be honored for their Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and Academic Progress Rate (APR) figures. On a conference-wide level, more than 2,200 student-athletes qualified for the NEC Academic Honor Roll in 2009-10, a 13 percent increase from the previous year. Fairleigh Dickinson and Saint Francis (PA) posted the highest overall GPAs in the conference to share the NEC Institutional Academic Award. On the field of play, the NEC has enjoyed many successes both regionally and nationally, competing in 23 NCAA championships each year. The future of the NEC looks even brighter with new facilities and improvements recently completed, under construction or in planning stages at a majority of the league’s member institutions. We also would like to thank you, the fans, for your support and tremendous enthusiasm of the sport of baseball. Enjoy the action! Sincerely, Noreen Morris, Commissioner Message To Spectators Northeast Conference member institutions value the principles of sportsmanship and the ideal of pursuing victory with honor in intercollegiate athletics. The Conference believes that athletics should be conducted in a way that reflects positively on the individual participants and institutions. The essential elements of sportsmanship and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of character building and seven core principles: respect, responsibility, fairness, honesty, integrity, caring and civility. The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these seven principles. The NEC has communicated this message through public service announcements that air on televised football and basketball games, public address announcements at all events and signage on each member campus. The Conference has also implemented a Team Sportsmanship Award program to recognize those teams and student-athletes who adhere to the principles of sportsman- ship and pursue victory with honor. Bryant, Monmouth and Saint Francis (PA) each finished the 2009-10 academic year with a league-high four sportsmanship awards, which are voted on by student-athletes and coaches following the conclusion of each athletic season. In 2010-11, the NEC has continued its partnership with the NCAA on a "Respect" campaign to address sportsmanship and fan behavior issues through education, communication and enforcement when problems arise. wXw holds keynote on wXw NOW streaming service, announces details on Germany's first wrestling network wXw just announced the first in-depth details on our new "wXw NOW" streaming network, which will launch one month from now on 8/13 at www.wxwnow.de. It will not just be a collection of shows like a lot of companies offer for a monthly fee via Pivotshare but also offer original content and a lot of archived shows, some dating back as far as 2006. We will also have our uniquely designed interface/UI, while hosting and infrastructure will be managed by Vimeo, our long-time streaming partner, dating back to 2013. Wrestling journalist Markus Gronemann (DarkMat.eu, Wrestling Observer) considers this to be the biggest launch of an over-the-top pro wrestling channel by a single promotion since New Japan World. wXw Managing Director Christian Jakobi held a keynote presentation tonight at 8 pm CEST at the wXw Wrestling Academy training school, which was streamed live on Facebook (the video is available, albeit only in German, here) and talked about what future and past events and what kind of original content would be available. We had up to 750 viewers simultaneously on Facebook and also had some students and a trainer (Toby Blunt) in attendance to provide some crowd noise and cheering at key points during the announcement. Marquee Events are wXw's version of pay-per-view caliber shows, where feuds start and end and international talent often appears. There currently are 10 marquee events on the calendar, with some of them being multi-day shows:

  • Cubed Circle Newsletter 241 – Consistency Is Hard
Cubed Circle Newsletter 241 – Consistency is Hard As many of probably noticed, we have been posting late and sporadically for the last month. This was, obviously, not our intention, but with the second semester eating into my free time, staying up to date is a tall order. Even without the newsletter itself seeing weekly publication the site has still remained up to date on a weekly basis, thanks primarily to co-author Ben Carass, as well as guest writers Paul Cooke and Leslie Lee III. But, the newsletter has survived for well over 241 weeks, and will hopefully thrive in the years to come. I have attempted to make provisions for publishing related tasks which should minimize the risk of major delays (obviously there will be some regular delays, as this late issue can attest), but we have some fail safes in place in order to keep this to a minimum. With all of this said, we have a great issue for everyone this week with Paul Cooke discussing the Pro-Wrestling Only Greatest Wrestler Ever project and his personal experience with the poll, Ben covers the news including tons of results from Japan and the Lesnar USADA violation, the Mixed Bag returns with a look at comedy wrestling, Ricochet/Ospreay, and a potential WWE match of the year -- plus Ben also looks at last Sunday's Battleground show and the first RAW of the brand split (a very good show). Also, for those unaware, we now have an official Twitter account @CubedCircleWres allowing the banger to unprecedented highs at @BenCarass and @RyanClingman.

2014 was a unique year for pro-wrestling, one that will undoubtedly be viewed as historically significant in years to follow. Whether it is to be reflected upon positively or negatively is not only highly subjective, but also context-specific with major occurrences transpiring across the pro-wrestling world over the last 12 months, each with its own strong, and at times far reaching, consequences. The WWE launched its much awaited Network, New Japan continued to expand, CMLL booked lucha's biggest match in well over a decade, culminating in the country's first million dollar gate, TNA teetered more precariously on the brink of death than perhaps ever before, Daniel Bryan won the WWE's top prize, Dragon Gate and DDT saw continued success before their loyal niche audiences, Alberto Del Rio and CM Punk departed the WWE with one ending up in the most unexpected of places, a developing and divergent style produced some of the best indie matches of the year, the European scene flourished, the Shield disbanded, Batista returned, Daniel Bryan relinquished his championship, and the Undertaker's streak came to an unexpected and dramatic end. These are but some of the happenings, which made 2014 the year that it was, and it is in this year-book that we look to not only recap all of these events and more, but also contemplate their relevance to the greater pro-wrestling landscape, both for 2015 and beyond. It should be stated that this year-book was inspired by the DKP Annuals that were released in 2011 and 2012, in fact, it was the absence of a 2013 annual that inspired us to produce a year-book for 2014.

  • When Did British Wrestling Get So Big? Ben Carass
Cubed Circle Newsletter – Best of 2015 Issue With the 2015 Cubed Circle Yearbook and end of the year fast approaching, we have decided to put together a Cubed Circle Recap issue this week, encapsulating some of the best content the newsletter had to offer in 2015 ahead of our biggest issue of the year coming up in less than two weeks. This special issue will be released alongside the new, and hopefully improved, cubedcirclewrestling.com. The site has been made dramatically easier to navigate, and the content is far more organised, which should make for a better user experience. The site logo has also changed, as visitors of the website will quickly notice. As always, any feedback is very much appreciated, particularly as far as the new website is concerned, as, realistically speaking, we should have some growing pains, although the old-site, one could argue, was the manifestation of three or so years of growing pains. But, for now, we hope you enjoy this special issue, and we will be back with another issue in approximately ten days – what will be, if not the biggest, hopefully the best issue we have ever published. Merry Holidays and Happy New Year, everyone! – Ryan Clingman, Cubed Circle Newsletter Editor When Did British Wrestling Get So Big? Ben Carass On November 13th 2004, FWA (Frontier Wrestling Alliance) ran the biggest post-World of Sport era show the British Wrestling scene had ever seen. A reported 1,785 fans saw such names as Terry Funk, Drew McDonald, AJ Styles, Colt Cabana, Paul Burchill, Spud and Doug Williams on the card at the Coventry Skydome that night for British Uprising III.

  • Year Ago, Inspired by the Dr. Keith Presents Annuals of 2011 and 2012, We Published
year ago, inspired by the Dr. Keith Presents Annuals of 2011 and 2012, we published the Ainaugural Cubed Circle Yearbook, attempting to encapsulate what was a pivotal year for professional wrestling in 2014. This year we hope to do the same, albeit for a year of a decidedly different sort. 2015 was dissimilar to 2014 in many respects. It didn't see moments as grandiose as the end of the Undertaker's Streak, Daniel Bryan's WrestleMania victory, or the Guerrero-Atlantis mask match. When evaluated from afar 2015 may even appear stagnant in comparison, as did many of the world's largest and most influential promotions during the year – WWE, NJPW, and CMLL in particular. But, upon closer inspection, the seemingly motionless landscape of 2015 wasn't only very much alive, but both morose and vibrant, disheartening and emboldening. The open wrestling fan of 2015 had more choice and freedom than perhaps ever before, with some ardent observers of the industry even abandoning Monday Night RAW for lack of faith in the lumbering weekly juggernaut. Some turned to Lucha Underground, a show that garnered considerable cult popularity. Others looked to alternative facets of the company such as NXT, which grew beyond what many considered its zenith at the end of 2014, harbouring one of the better years for American women's wrestling in decades. AAA showed promise and ambition on several fronts, but was subject to unfortunate, and at times tragic, circumstances. NJPW was as repetitive creatively as it had been under the Kidani administration, but produced one of the best nights of wrestling of the last several years in WrestleKingdom 9 – made more readily available to an American audience than ever before.

  • 10) Get Rid of 205 Live I'm Writing This Article on June
    10) Get Rid Of 205 Live I'm writing this article on June 8th, 2017. According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, from Monday, May 29th to Monday, June 3rd, the May 30th episode of 205 Live was the twentieth most-watched show on the WWE Network. That is extremely unfortunate for a weekly show that features many talented wrestlers. Not only is the Cruiserweight show not getting as many views every week as WWE would like them to get, but WWE isn't giving the superstars enough time on Raw to showcase their talents to then lure people in to stay awake and watch 205 Live. To put the icing on the cake, WWE hasn't appeared to be doing anything to improve the Cruiserweight division. Getting rid of 205 Live would be a great start to improving the Cruiserweight division. It forces WWE to showcase the Cruiserweights on Raw because there wouldn't be any other way and the amount of wrestling content per week decreases. WWE has provided its fans with a lot of wrestling and to some hardcore fans that could be a good thing. While I consider myself a hardcore fan by watching Raw and Smackdown every week as well as pay-per-views, I can see why people don't watch 205 Live and NXT. On pay-per-view weeks, there are roughly ten consecutive hours of WWE programming from Sunday night to Wednesday night's NXT. Putting the Cruiserweights only on Raw would allow them to have much longer matches and put on more entertaining segments.
