He was wearing a three piece suit this morning but from what I could see of it, it did not look to be of all that great quality or even all that well fitting. However, he did have a coat on over the suit so I couldn't get a good look. He typically looks better dressed than the average man but not by that wide a margin. Dedalus Distinguished Member. Eighteen comments and not one answers the OP's original question. To answer it, if you've seen the show, it follows the book's format and Style that he describe's a formula that any woman can use to build a smart wardrobe. My gf found it helpful if uninsprired, but if you like Tim Gunn you'll like it as his voice comes through. For us guys the takeway s from the book are his at-length discussion of the importance of good fit along with how things like good posture effect how people see you. Lastly, having seen him in DC he was dressed impeccably. For the button nazi's have you heard of a Paddock Suit? Originally Posted by s4usea. He emphasizes that a person should take "who they are" into account in choosing a wardrobe. As I see it, TG dresses in a way that reflects who he is, i. I can relate to that. Bottom line - I think Tim Gunn: A Guide to Quality style is impeccable, and shows a refined sensibility. He's just not into swagger or any over-the-top looks. • Interest Groups, Media, and the Elite Opinions’ Impact on Public Opinion
The American Gaze at the American Gays The American Gaze at the American Gays: Interest Groups, Media, and the Elite Opinions’ Impact on Public Opinion Honors Thesis 2013 Minkyung Kim UC Berkeley 2 Abstract In a recent wave of events, President Obama had announced his open acceptance and support of gay marriage in America; many celebrities have endorsed and said “It Gets Better”, to help with gay teenagers – and the majority of America stands behind them. But the trend towards an acceptance of gays has been established way before Obama, Lady Gaga, or “It Gets Better” Campaign. In this study, I seek the answer to the puzzling question of, “what made the public opinion change regarding the gay population?” After looking at public opinion trend, I seek the answer through some quantitative ways: through the political interest groups’ financial and media data; seeking media infiltration of “gay” in the news and TV shows; and lastly, the elite’s opinion through the channels of Supreme Court of the United States, State of the Union Address, and Presidential Campaign platforms of each parties. My data analysis goes back through roughly last thirty-five years (from 1977 to the present) of what “gay” is, and how it changed in the eyes of the American public. As none of the previous literature does a comprehensive look at all three factors as the change in attitude towards “the gays”, I discover that there is a general pattern, as there are more influences in the interest groups, the media, and the elites’ opinion, the public opinion in America went up, seemingly the former leading the latter; however, that pattern is not always so true – in fact, public opinion may lead elite opinion or media exposure.

MAKING IT WORK: LIFE LESSONS FROM GLOBAL FASHION ICON TIM GUNN A Virtual Event Presented by the JFS Behavioral Health Committee WHEN Thursday, April 29, 2021 EVENT TIME 12:00pm – 1:00pm VIP AFTER PARTY 1:00pm –1:30pm Honoring Caryl Lees Witte with the Linda Janon Behavioral Health Champion Award Photo credit: Scott McDermott It hasn’t always been fashion runways and hit television shows for style guru and fashion mentor, Tim Gunn. Best known as the Emmy Award winning co-host of Project Runway and most recently Amazon’s Making the Cut, he is also a New York Times bestselling author and former Chief Creative Officer for Liz Claiborne, Inc. Early in his adolescence, he suffered from social anxiety and depression, and spent more than two years at a psychiatric hospital. “I was a very unhappy kid…but that unhappiness spiraled downward to the point where I made a very serious suicide attempt.” Tim would later credit an insightful doctor for saving his life. “That’s how we get through life—by having people whom we trust, loved ones who are important to us, and by reaching out and saying ‘I need some help’.” In a candid conversation with JFS, Tim will detail how he overcame his struggles and share his everyday lessons for making it work. The JFS Behavioral Health Committee The Behavioral Health Committee at Jewish Family Service of San Diego, founded by Linda Janon in 1997, seeks to eliminate the stigma of mental illness through education and outreach. The Committee holds two community events per year to promote awareness on subjects related to behavioral health.

  • Rethinking the Mainstream Gay and Lesbian Movement Beyond the Classroom Exclusionary Results from Inclusion-Based Assimilation Politics
FEATURE ARTICLE Rethinking the Mainstream Gay and Lesbian Movement Beyond the Classroom Exclusionary Results from Inclusion-Based Assimilation Politics NICOLE C. FERRY Washington State University HEADLINE on the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) website reads: “As the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender [LGBT] civil rights organization, HRC envisions an America where LGBT people are ensured of their basic equal rights, and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community” (HRC, 2011a). The HRC, under the banner of “equal rights,” has become one of the largest mainstream organizations to mobilize gay and lesbian individuals across the nation in an effort to obtain what it deems are basic rights and access. However, “equal rights” or “basic rights” can be rather ambiguous concepts: Equal to whom? Basic for whom? Based on an examination of historical outcomes and a survey of the literature, this paper attempts to answer such questions as it dissects the mainstream gay and lesbian movement in and effort to provide an alternative analysis of “equal rights” and social justice movements. Usually, within U.S. discourse and curriculum, equal rights are taught and communicated as being equivalent with equality in the strongest sense – conflating equal rights with the end of discrimination or injustice for the now politically/legally included group. Hence, critically investigating this mainstream equal rights movement, is to effectively deconstruct “equality” and show that typical discourse or classroom curriculum is often short-sighted, or lacking in its examination of the multidimensionality of equality and equal rights. What is often not discussed is the struggle of such movements, the compromises made, and even the exclusionary tactics used in an effort for full inclusion into dominant culture.
