Good Evening

A very warm welcome to everybody who has travelled up from Deal this evening .

Saturday' match was totally compelling . We were 2-0 down at HT but fought back and 2-2 at FT was just about right .

So here we are tonight , welcoming Deal in what will be the 2nd of 6 meetings this season

Crazy as it seems but 2 x FA Cups ties, 1x Scefl League Cup, 1 x FA Vase, 2 x League matches . Never known anything like it !

We wish Arly a quick recovery from a broken foot, sustained in Saturday draw . This is a real pity as he was just settling down really well and scored a magical equaliser against Deal.

Hopefully tonight we will use the 'players tunnel' for the 1st time . I say hopefully as I'm waiting for a gate to be delivered.

Our away support was superb on Saturday and thanks so much for making such an effort. Let's get behind Ben's Red & Black army tonight and hopefully get through to the next round

Enjoy the match ! Rocky #FoxburyFoxes #Glebefamily #Ben’sRedandBlackArmy

A WORD FROM THE GAFFER

Deal Town FC v Glebe FC After our mid-week disaster away to Beckenham Town we had to turn our atten- tions to Deal away in the FA cup. It was very important that we as a team put in a performance for both ourselves, the club and supports. We took a strong following down to Deal, so would like to say thank you for the supporters who made the long journey. As the season has stared I've learnt a lot in our opening two league games and I am even more determined to get things right and push the club forward. But these things will take time for all players to gel, but i have faith in them all. So i thank your you support and patience. As a team we knew we were in for a tough game, with Deal being very organised team with some exciting players. It was important that we put Wednesday behind us and move on. Both teams started a little bit tentatively, but we looked to have better shape and more tempo from Wednesday, but it was the host who took the lead. With a long ball a over the top that caught us out. With the forward getting on the end to slot home bottom corner. Again we were still positive with our play, but couldn't seem to create any chances. Then the host grabbed their 2nd with some comical defend- ing, which has been the story of our season so far. 2nd half was a lot different with Glebe playing the way we should every week, with high tempo and confidence, with this we stared to create chances and break down the opposition. We soon got the goal we deserved, with Gunner scoring from a free kick. The wind might helped, but we need that to push on and we did so. Soon after that we got our equaliser, with Arlie turning in the box and smashing how. Great turn and finish. We kept the pressure up and should have gone onto finish the game off, but couldn't take our chances. All round much better performance and need to do this for the rest of the season. Thanks again for those that travelled down to watch.

Originally known as Deal Cinque Ports FC the club was formed in the early 1900s, changing its’ name in 1920 to Deal Town FC. Deals’ first matches were played in the Thanet League and the East Kent League. In 1909 they joined the Eastern section of the Kent League. Following the disbanding of the Kent League in 1959, Deal became founder members of the Aetolian League. 1963 saw Deal elected into the Southern League, but after a torrid three seasons they moved onto the Greater London League. The 1971/72 season saw the club return to the Kent League. Deals’ first, Kent League Championship came in 1953/54, then after a long wait, the second was achieved in 1999/2000. They have been Runners-up on two occasions, 1988/89 and 1998/99.

The club has reached the Kent League Cup Final on five occasions. Their first Final appearance came in 1957/58 when they overcame Margate. Deal won their second League Cup in 1981/82, this time defeating Erith & Belvedere. Their third appearance in the Final was 1993/94, when they lost to Ramsgate. The Club lifted the cup for the 3rd time in 1998/99, defeating VCD Athletic. In 1999/2000, they reached the final, but did not contend it. The club has made four appearances in the Kent Senior Trophy Final. Deal were beaten finalists in 1982/83 going down to Southern League Fisher Athletic. There was further heartbreak in the 1990/91 Final this time having to settle for second best against Hythe Town. However it was a case of third time lucky in 1994/95 as Deal finally captured the Trophy defeating Folkestone Invicta in a penalty shoot-out following a 2-2 draw. 1999/2000 saw Deal lift the trophy for the second time when they beat Chatham 5-1.

Another trophy to come the way of the club was the Greater London League Cup which they won in 1967/68, meanwhile in 1959/60 Deal finished as Aetolian League Runners-up. 1998/99 saw the Club achieve their best season. Apart from the successes of the 1st team, the Reserves won the League championship for the first time, and were beaten finalists in both the League Cup and the Intermediate Cup. This was however surpassed the following season. As well as their domestic achievements, Deal Town become the 1st team from Kent to lift the FA Vase with their 1-0 victory at against Chippenham Town in front of a crowd of 20,083, the second biggest in the history of the competition.

Last season was slightly disappointing in that we finished in 13th place in the table, four places lower than the previous season, although it looked as though it was going to be significantly worse at one point. The 4-2 home defeat to Erith Town at the end of January left the Hoops in 18th position in the table and facing a relegation battle, but the players responded superbly by losing only two of their remaining 15 league games to ensure another mid-table finish

Our main honours are:- FA Vase winners 1999/2000 Kent League winners 1953/54, 1999/2000 Kent League runners-up 1988/89. 1998/99 Kent League Cup winners 1957/58, 1981/82, 1998/99 Kent League Cup runners-up 1993/94 Kent Senior Trophy winners 1994/95, 1999/2000 Kent Senior Trophy runners-up 1982/83, 1990/91

Glebe FC were founded in 1995 by the present Chairman & his wife, Rocky and Grace McMillan.

From humble beginnings with just 1 under 8 team, the club has progressed at various stages, today hosting 20 Junior Teams, 4 vets sides, 1 Ladies Senior Side and of course the First XI, with over 300 members.

We are based in Chislehurst Kent, with 15 acres of grounds. Glebe, in the last couple of years have moved in and built a wonderful new sports complex, comprising of 5 pitches, a new stadium pitch , floodlit training area, multi-purpose Gym and a brand new Social Hub.

It hasn't always been easy. For years Glebe were nomads, winning every Junior Trophy that could be won, including 10 London County Cups at various ages, but never seemingly able to find 'a home of its own'. However we never gave up and moved into our 'New Home' in September 2014. Also in 2014 Glebe FC won the prestigious 'London FA Standard Charter Community Club of the Year Award', voted by the Executive Committee of the London FA.

After progressing through the age groups and becoming a regular feature in Kent Youth Leagues, it was decided by the Committee back in 2010 to form a Senior Section. We are now in our 5th Season. The initial 2 years we ground-shared at Holmesdale FC. This was only going to be a short term stay as we were desperate to find our own venue. When Old Elthamians Rugby Club experienced differences with the Landlords, we were quick off the mark and signed a 25 year lease at Foxbury Avenue. With the help of the FSIF (Football Stadia Improvement Fund), we have built a stadium which we are really proud of.

Glebe FC continues to make new friends in its venture as a Senior Club. Having narrowly missed out on promotion in 2015/16 (where the winners of Sheppey v Glebe went up), Glebe went on to win step 6 by 12 points last season 2016/17 as well as Runners up in the London Senior Trophy.

We have a brief yet exciting history as a senior Club, which follows an exceptional history as a junior Club. Hopefully more trophies will be added in the years to come, in addition to the Cups and League success.

Having made a few key signings throughout pre-season, and with new additions to the coaching staff, the team is beginning to take shape and has high expectations for the season ahead. The league is set to be a tough one, with Glebe drawing newly promoted Maidstone United away in the opening game of the season. The league Cup will also prove to be a challenge with the first fixture against our local rivals Kent Football United, at their ground in September. With the league being a focus this year, we ask for as many Glebe support- ers to extend their usual Saturday football fix across the weekend, and come down to Foxbury Avenue on Sundays throughout the season to cheer on the ladies.

CONTACT ROCKY TO DISCUSS 07903274178 MY LOVE OF NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL

by Tony Incenzo of Radio (: @TonyIncenzo)

IN THE BEGINNING I’ve been watching Non-League football on a regular basis since I was 10 years old. What I like most is that the players, club officials and supporters are there for the love of the game. The true spirit of football exists at Non-League level. I grew up in North-West London and I was taken by my family to see my local club QPR as a child in the 1970’s. I’ve always supported the R’s, but when they were playing away from home I started going to see my local Non-League clubs – Hendon primarily, but also Finchley, Barnet and Edgware Town.

GROUNDHOPPER From there, I decided to visit every Non-League club in London as my groundhopping bug began. By the time I was 17, I had visited all 92 Football League grounds and I visited all the Scottish League grounds whilst still a teenager. Since then, I’ve continued travelling all around the country to visit Non- League clubs. Last season, I chalked up my 2,000th ground at FC United of Manchester.

WORLD RECORD .One of the best groundhops was being part of a world record in March 2004. I joined 250 other groundhoppers to watch five matches at five different football grounds in one day in the Central Midlands League. This is listed in the Guinness Book of Records and we received certificates confirming the world record at the end of the fifth game. INSIDE PRISON! In December 2011, I set about watching a match inside Feltham Prison in Middlesex.

This featured a team called Phoenix FC, who had to play all their fixtures at home (for obvious reasons!) as inmates of the Young Offender Institution at Feltham.

I received special permission by email to attend a fixture, but I was told not to bring a phone or a camera with me. I was instructed to arrive in the main car park along with the match referee and the visiting players from Hanworth Villa Vets.

We were met by members of the prison staff who escorted us all in together…via an airport-style metal detector, a body search, numerous locked gates and along a path to the changing rooms.

This process took 45 minutes. After the players and ref got changed, we were then accompanied through more locked gates out to the playing area.

A high mesh fence with barbed wire on top surrounded the football pitch. There were dug-outs along one touchline and I watched the match from there as the only spectator.

THE FUTURE I have now been to 2,150 football grounds and have completed visits to the all the grounds in the top 16 divisions of English football down to Non- League step 4. Then at Step 5 I need 26 grounds and another 67 at Step 6.

There are endless possibilities at step 7 and below, where I’ve already visited many grounds. Also, I’ve been to 35 European countries plus the USA for football – so it would be nice to visit more countries.
