Translation of research results into medical and public health policy and practice often involves policy change. Faculty members at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center will discuss advocacy around public and institutional policy change at the international, national, state, and local level. The panelists will speak about their experience in the areas of health care reform, FDA regulation of alcoholic energy drinks, national vaccination policy, and enactment of North Carolina’s smoke free bars and restaurants law. APRIL 12-14, 2011 CHAPEL HILL, NC Ethical, Legal & Social Implications (ELSI) Research Program, Congress 2011: “Exploring the ELSI Universe”. Registration and abstract submission are now open. The ELSI Congress, hosted by the Center for Genomics and Society at UNC-Chapel Hill, will showcase empirical research, conceptual and normative scholarship, and policy contributions from all aspects of the Human Genome Project. SEPTEMBER 22-24, 2011: Junior Scholars in Bioethics Workshop, Wake Forest University – Applications now being accepted. This new initiative gives junior (untenured) faculty working in bioethics an opportunity to present works-in-progress to scholars in bioethics and related fields. Commentators will provide constructive feedback to presenters with the goal of fostering scholarship in bioethics. The expectation is that the workshop will assist scholars in revising papers prior to submitting them for publication. The deadline for applications is April 1, 2011.
