TONY® WINNER FRANK GALATI HELMS RHINOCEROS Runs February 7 - April 14
RHINOCEROS Page 1 of 6 ***For Immediate Release*** January 10, 2018 TONY® WINNER FRANK GALATI HELMS RHINOCEROS Runs February 7 - April 14 "The magic of this piece is that it is just as believable as it is ludicrous, just as chilling as it is humorous. Ionesco allows the audience to escape reality in order to see the world in a brand new way." — Michael Donald Edwards, Asolo Rep Producing Artistic Director (SARASOTA, January 10, 2018) — Asolo Repertory Theatre continues its rep season with Eugène Ionesco's RHINOCEROS. It is directed by two-time Tony Award-winner Frank Galati, who, with the support of the Ionesco estate, has streamlined the script from the original three acts to two, making it more relevant to today's audience. The satirical comic masterpiece previews February 7 and 8, opens February 9 and runs in rotating repertory through April 14 in the Mertz Theatre, located in the FSU Center for the Performing Arts. A farce, a tragedy, a brilliant experiment for the mind, RHINOCEROS is both a wildly fresh satire and a poetic reminder of the consequences of following the herd. In a quaint French village, the townspeople are mysteriously and inexplicably transforming. One by one, they are forced to confront their own humanity, morality, and individuality. A master of absurdist theatre, Ionesco penned RHINOCEROS in the aftermath of World War II, and its exploration of the dangers of conforming and losing one's voice remain just as poignant and powerful today as ever. -more- RHINOCEROS Page 2 of 6 "I am always intrigued by what production will spark Frank Galati's genius imagination each season, and was thrilled when we landed on the rarely seen RHINOCEROS," said Asolo Rep Producing Artistic Director Michael Donald Edwards. -

New On Video & DVD Family Guy Season 5 Seth MacFarlane's animated comedy continues its assault on pop culture, good taste, and the Fox censors with its riotous fifth season. Even though nothing has really changed for the Griffin family, there's still plenty of comedic ground to cover. Peter keeps his crown as the laziest man in Quahog, Rhode Island, but getting older means experiences that no man should have to go through. Meanwhile, his beloved Lois is still far too sexy for her portly husband, leading to a liaison with Bill Clinton. Son Chris joins a band, but he can't seem to shake his fear of the evil monkey in his closet. Daughter Meg continues her tour of mediocrity with a job at a store in town, while Brian the dog puts down his martini long enough to go beyond the bounds of Quahog and travel to Iraq. Baby Stewie remains intent on world domination and matricide, but he takes some time off to connect with an ex- love. Volume five includes the first 13 episodes of the fifth season, plus commentary, deleted scenes and more to delight Family Guy fans. Disc 1 includes the following episodes: "Stewie Loves Lois," "Mother Tucker," "Hell Comes to Quahog," "Saving Private Brian," "Whistle While Your Wife Works" and "Prick Up Your Ears." Additional Actors: Adam West, Mike Henry, Phil LaMarr, Phyllis Diller, Gore Vidal, Carrie Fisher, Gary Cole, Macaulay Culkin, Louis Gossett Jr., Johnny Brennan, Drew Barrymore, David Cross. Set in and around a Charleston, SC Baptist church, weaving through this ensemble piece are three main characters - Brea, an introspective pastor's daughter experiencing debilitating doubt; the hyperactive Laura, Brea's best friend and a devout believer; and Tim, the open-hearted son of a single father, confronting his homosexuality for the first time. Tensions and buried feelings abound, as colleges are chosen and adults behave badly, as Brea, Laura and Tim attempt to hang onto what they have, all the while yearning to break free. The Wise Kids page 3 ABOUT THE PRODUCTION Born and raised the son of a Southern Baptist minister in South Carolina, 30-year-old Stephen Cone has spent the past seven years in Chicago, IL making one short or feature film per year, while also dabbling as a writer/director in Chicago’s rich and internationally respected theatre scene. It was after the completion of his first full-length feature IN MEMORIAM that he first had an idea of two southern teenagers who have grown up in the same Baptist church. -
