Since the establishment of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui (HKSKH) in 1998, the Province has always been committed to God’s ministry in Hong Kong and Macau. Soon the Province will be approaching her twentieth anniversary, this offers us a chance to reflect upon our past, examine our present, and plan for the future through our faith and tradition. We anticipate a dynamic future for our Church: a Church which is faithful and relevant. We aim for the church to be a church serving the Lord faithfully, leading people in seeking the Lord, enabling people in response to God’s calls in their own contexts and to be a blessing for our society in our time. For a better tomorrow, the Provincial Standing Committee of the Sixth General Synod has now prepared a mission statement and related policies for the Seventh General Synod and would like to invite the Synodic members to discuss and adopt the motion. 2. This Church policy paper aims not at solving existing problems, nor is it made to respond to the current issues in Hong Kong. The purpose of drafting the Church policy paper is to serve as a reminder for every member of HKSKH that through probing the fundamental question of what is the purpose of the Church’s existence, we may envision the future of HKSKH. It does not constitute an official organ of the Communion and is not a decision-making body. Aims of the Conference 1. To increase Provincial Secretaries’ understanding of the nature of the Anglican Communion and of the contribution they can make to its life. 2. To help the development of Provincial Secretaries in their role and to increase their knowledge of the different ways in which that role is expressed in different Provinces. 3. To exchange information and experience on issues that face Provincial Secretaries. 4. To learn about the life and concerns of the host Province.   • How Many Anglicans Are There in the Anglican Church in North America?
    How many Anglicans are there in the Anglican Church in North America? On every Sunday morning, some 81,311 people worship at the 693 congregations of the Anglican Church in North America. These people and parishes are already outside of The Episcopal Church and The Anglican Church in Canada. The large majority are temporarily under the oversight of six separate Anglican provinces. The Anglican Church in North America will unify the parishes and membership of a number of jurisdictions: • The Anglican Mission in the Americas (Rwanda) reports an average Sunday attendance of 21,600 in 180 congregations (40 of which are churches in formation called “networks”). • The Convocation of Anglicans in North America (Nigeria) has 69 congregations with a average Sunday attendance of 9,828. • The Reformed Episcopal Church has 150 parishes and an average Sunday attendance of 13,000. • There are 51 parishes under the temporary oversight of Uganda with an average Sunday attendance of 7,000. • There are 55 parishes in The United States under the temporary oversight of the provinces of Kenya and the Southern Cone with an average Sunday attendance of 10,000. • Four entire dioceses separating from The Episcopal Church, with a combined 163 parishes and an average Sunday attendance of 16,483 (The Episcopal Church congregations and members having been excluded from this count) are temporarily dioceses of the province of the Southern Cone. • The Anglican Network in Canada (Southern Cone) is composed of 24 congregations with an average Sunday attendance of 3,400. • One congregation is under the temporary oversight of West Africa.

    Maintaining the Bonds of Affection and the Discovering of Objects of Love: An East Asian Response to the Windsor Report 2004 Michael Nai-Chiu Poon, Singapore The Primates’ Standing Committee asks whether the description of the life of the Communion in Sections A and B of the Report we can recognize as consistent with our understanding of the Communion. My answer, in brief, is no. Let me be clear from the start. I long for churches in the Communion to move closer together than go their separate ways. To do this, we must shift from the paradigm of trying to maintain “Bonds of Affection” towards a more open and provisional vision of discovering the “Objects of Love” in our common journey1. A Question of Social Identity Section B of the Report deals with the issue of identity. The Report reminds us, alongside the spiritual bond we share as children of God in Christ, of the “shared and inherited identity which is the particular history of the churches to which we belong”2 It goes on in the next paragraph to trace the history of “the Anglican Communion”, recalling our roots in “the ancient churches of the British Isles.” Then the Report proceeds to deal with how the institutional churches can and should work together in the common task of discernment. Indeed, back in Section A, the Lambeth Commission cites the issue of the ordination of women to the priesthood as a case in point of how mutual discernment and decision making operate in the Communion.3 The central problem today in the Communion, so the Report announces at the end of the prognosis, is that “we have not always fully articulated how authority work within Anglicanism.”4 And I do not think it is unfair to add that by “authority”, the Commission has in mind institutional authority.
