Country Aircheck got the consensus on last night’s (4/19) 50th ACM Awards from some folks in radio. KFDI/Wichita APD Carol Hughes: I about fell off my sofa when they opened the show with “Pledge Allegiance To The Hag.” They included songs that would never be on an awards show. Jason Aldean’s medley was fantastic. I loved the Milestone Awards. Those artists were not just brought onstage as a courtesy but they were showcased in a wonderful way and given a huge spotlight to show just why they were Milestone winners. -

Most successfully, ABC Family uses Twitter to promote the teen drama Pretty Little Liars through the use of hashtags and celebrity interactions. This study analyzes Pretty Little Liars’ use of hashtags created by the network and by actors from the show. It examines how the Pretty Little Liars’ official accounts engage fans about their opinions on the show and encourage further discussion. Fans use the network- generated hashtags within their tweets to react to particular scenes and to hopefully be noticed by managers of official show accounts. -

Rick Springfield on the Back Waters Stage!
Contact: Abby Ferguson | Marketing Manager 563-585-3002 | [email protected] July 5, 2017 - For Immediate Release Rick Springfield on the Back Waters Stage! Dubuque, IA - Rick Springfield has joined the lineup on the Back Waters Stage. He’ll be performing this Labor Day weekend - Sunday, September 3. Over the past three decades, Rick Springfield has worn many hats as an entertainer and performer. The creator of some of the finest power-pop of the ’80s, he’s a Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and musician who has sold 25 million albums and scored 17 U.S. Top 40 hits, including “Jessie’s Girl,” “Don’t Talk to Strangers,” “An Affair of the Heart,” “I’ve Done Everything for You,” “Love Somebody,” and “Human Touch.” He’s an accomplished actor who most recently starred opposite Meryl Streep in the feature film Ricki and the Flash and gave a chameleonic performance as the creepy Dr. Pitlor in HBO’s prestige drama True Detective. He’s also a talented author — both his candid 2010 memoir Late, Late at Night (which Rolling Stone named one of the 25 greatest rock memoirs of all time) and his 2014 comedic novel Magnificent Vibration earned rave reviews and spots on the New York Times Best Sellers’ list. In 2013, Springfield wrote and recorded “The Man That Never Was” with Dave Grohl for the soundtrack to Sound City — the Foo Fighters’ frontman’s documentary about the San Fernando Valley recording studio that was Springfield’s home away from home (his manager owned the building). Rolling Stone called Springfield’s touching interview in the film its “breakout story.” In 2014, Springfield was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, located around the corner from the first apartment he lived in when he first arrived in the U.S. -
Issue 421 Old Milwaukee’S Best: WMIL There Aren’T Many Country Radio Stations That Pull Numbers Like Iheartmedia’S WMIL/Milwaukee
November 3, 2014, Issue 421 Old Milwaukee’s Best: WMIL There aren’t many Country radio stations that pull numbers like iHeartMedia’s WMIL/Milwaukee. The August 2014 PPM saw the 30-year heritage station post its best ratings yet when it went 11.9 Persons 6+ with a weekly cume of 510,800. September was almost as good with an 11.6. The closest competition was Journal News/Talk WTMJ-AM with an 8.7. Country Aircheck reached out to 25-year ‘MIL PD Kerry Wolfe to find out what’s in the water in America’s 38th largest radio market. Going Rates: “It’s number one in almost every demo,” says Wolfe. “You have to look real hard to find a place it’s not number one – men, women, young, old.” He’s right. WMIL led the market in September with Persons 18-34 (12.7) and 25-54 (10.6), Wolfe shares. The station’s closest competitor in the 18-34 arena was Entercom Top 40 WXSS (9.2), while Saga Musical Wares: SESAC Nashville names Jerrod Niemann’s Rock WHQG had that distinction 25-54 (7.6). “Drink To That All Night” Song of the Year at last night’s That three-point spread between ‘MIL and its (11/2) Music Awards. Pictured (l-r) are SESAC’s Tim Fink, second-place challengers is fairly common, songwriter Lance Miller, publisher Tim McGraw, Niemann by the way. and SESAC’s Shannan Hatch and John Mullins. So what’s the appeal? “I think it’s just the Kerry Wolfe lifestyle of the people who live in Milwau- No Shave: Charts & Awards kee,” explains Wolfe. -
Issue 409 Garth’S Coming: Now What? If Anything Is Known About Garth Brooks, It’S That He Does Things Big
August 18, 2014, Issue 409 Garth’s Coming: Now What? If anything is known about Garth Brooks, it’s that he does things big. The same has been true so far of his touring come- back, which started in Chicago with an on-sale that was unlike anything CBS Radio VP/Country Programming and WUSN/Chi- cago PD Jeff Kapugi had ever seen. “One of the best days I have had as a program director in this crazy business” is how he later described it. Given that Garth last toured more than a decade ago, there a lot of other programmers who aren’t quite sure what to expect because they were either in another format or, *cough*, were too young. With that Jeff Kapugi in mind, Country Aircheck examined how Garth’s tour has played out at radio so far. Guitars And Tiki Bars: WQIK/Jacksonville’s Cindy Spicer and The Lead-Up: Garth’s 10 dates in Chicago are a good Columbia’s RJ Meacham take in Kenny Chesney’s Flora-Bama place to start. Though a fan dubbed “Andy from Atlanta” got to Jama Saturday (8/16), with Chesney and David Lee Murphy break the tour-open news on the afternoon of July 14, Kapugi and onstage behind them. ‘USN Dir./Promotions Pam Hamil got a heads up from the pro- moter early that morning. “Obviously we needed to wait for Garth Chesney’s First Jama to call Andy before we could flip the switch and let the confetti fly,” They came to see Kenny Chesney and his only 2014 concert Kapugi says. -
Eric Paslay Biography
Eric Paslay - Biography Eric Paslay definitely knows how to craft a hit song. Jake Owen, Rascal Flatts, Love and Theft and the Eli Young Band have all scored No. 1 singles thanks to Paslay’s songwriting prowess, but fans who have seen him onstage will testify there is so much more to the tall, Texas redhead than his excellent songwriting chops. Paslay is a charismatic performer and a potent vocalist who knows how to connect with an audience. When his single “Friday Night” reached the No. 1 spot, Paslay arrived as an artist in his own right. “Friday Night” serves as an inviting preview to his EMI Records Nashville debut album, a vibrant collection of songs that cover a wide expanse of emotional territory from his newest single, the aching ballad “She Don’t Love You” to the clever up tempo “Song About A Girl” and the poignant, uplifting “Deep As It Is Wide.” Working with producers Marshall Altman, Daniel Hill and Billy Lynn, Paslay has created a colorful sonic landscape. “Life isn’t always the same heartbeat, so I don’t want to have an album of songs at the same tempo,” Paslay says of the musical and lyrical diversity displayed on his eponymous debut. It all started for Paslay when he began playing guitar and writing songs at 15. “I wrote a poem for a girl,” he recalls with a grin. “I never gave it to her and then I discovered that most songs are poems, so I just put a melody and chords to the poem, and there was my first song.” These days Eric Paslay has moved from backstage to center stage.
