Aviva for Desktops 9.00 Windows XP compatibility

About this This technical note provides information about Aviva® for Desktops™ (AFD) 9.00 and its new technical note status as Compatible with Windows® XP. The information contained herein supersedes any corresponding information located on the AFD 9.00 CD.

Aviva for In accordance with ® standards, AFD is now Compatible with Windows XP. The Desktop’s new functionality of AFD on computers running Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional is the same as on previously supported versions of Windows. The Windows XP status compatibility patch is available on the Aviva Solutions Web site.

What is basic The Windows XP compatibility patch from Aviva Solutions ensures that AFD provides the same functionality? basic functionality in Windows XP that it provided in previously supported versions of Windows. By basic functionality, Aviva Solutions means that the following primary functions of AFD do not compromise the stability of the Windows XP or AFD itself: • Installation/Reinstallation • Add/Remove • Connecting to a host • Printing • Data Transfer • Security • Uninstallation

Downloading In order to download and install the Windows XP compatibilty patch, you must be a registered user and installing of Aviva Solutions online support and services. If you have not already registered, please go to www.avivasolutions.com/support and choose Register New User to register for a User name and the patch Password. You will receive a confirmation of your User name and Password by email as soon as your registration is processed. If you are a registered user, please follow the steps below to download and install the patch: 1 Install AFD on your Windows XP system as you would on any Windows system (for more on installing AFD, consult Install., located in the Docs folder on the AFD CD). 2 Open your Web browser and go to www.avivasolutions.com/support. 3 Click on Support, then Registered Users. 4 Enter your User name and Password. 5 Click on Download Software Updates, then Aviva for Desktops. 6 Download the patch to any folder on your hard disk.

avivasolutions.com 7 Open the folder on your hard disk containing the patch and execute it. The necessary AFD files will be replaced by ones that are Windows XP compatible.

Additional The AFD CD contains additional folders in the root directory containing drivers for third-party software on the software as well as AFD enhancement tools. Windows XP does not support some of these drivers or protocols. Drivers from these third-parties that continue to be supported by Microsoft in Windows Aviva for XP should be upgraded from their respective Web sites. RESKIT Aviva Solutions’ Since AFD’s status of Compatible with Windows XP enhancement tools is based on basic functionality, Aviva Solutions does for AFD not specifically claim that its suite of enhancements for AFD will run error free in a Windows XP environment. However, the tools in this folder have been designed to run on the various Windows operating systems, including Windows NT and . Since Windows XP is built on the code base of these two previous operating systems, Aviva does not foresee any compatibility issues with Windows XP and these AFD enhancement tools.
