KEY: Waste = Still wasted from the ‘Harrowing of the North’ of 1069. *Earnwine According to Skaife was a chaplain to King Edward the Confessor. ^Gamall: There are 5 Gamalls given in D.B. for Yorkshire: 1. Gamall - Son of Ormr who was killed by earl Tostig at York in 1064. a younger Ormr who built St. Gregory’s Church at Kirkdale may be his son. 2. Gamall – Succeeded by his son Lesyngr whose lands were divided between his two sons, Hugh and Henry de Elland. The Eland family descends from Hugh. 3. Gamall son of Osbert. Hugh son of Baldric gained much of Gamall’s lands. Gamall held Cottingham. 4. Gamall – Held the manor of Arkendale and lands in Lincolnshire. 5. Gamall - His sons succeeded him at Danby. He held Barden and West Hauxwell, before 1066 and part of Kilham and Fridaythorpe with Forni. Ulfr succeded to his father’s lands. He is tenuously thought to be Gamall son of Osbert of Collingham

+ Knutr - Son of Karli son of Thorbrandr. Earl Waltheof had the sons of Karli killed at Settringham but two may have escaped, Sumarlithi & Knutr.

# Dunstan – Son of Aegelnothes who was one of the leaders of the rising against earl Tostig in 1065. Dunstan also had a residence in York.

** Ormr – Son of Gamall whose inscription still exists on the on the sundial at St. Gregory’s Church, Kirkdale. Skaife says this Gamall was the son of Ormr who was killed by earl Tostig in 1064.
