FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CONTACT: [email protected] Assembly Republican Leader Endorses Melendez for Senate Assembly Republican Leader Marie Waldron joins the Senate Republican Leader in Endorsing Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez for Senate Today, Assembly Republican Leader, Marie Waldron, announced her endorsement of Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez for State Senate. “I have served alongside Melissa Melendez in the State Assembly since 2012, and in that time we have fought important battles on behalf of taxpayers and for safer neighborhoods,” said Assembly Republican Leader Marie Waldron. “I know that she will continue to be a staunch advocate for the people of Riverside County in the State Senate. "I have won tough fights before and expect this to be no different," said Riverside Assemblywoman Melissa A. Melendez. "The issues facing our state require commitment to fighting the increasing cost of living that is driving our homelessness crisis and at the same time protecting the communities that make California great." Assemblywoman Melissa A. Melendez has represented the 67th Assembly District since 2012. Prior to elected office, Melissa served her country in the United States Navy as one of the first women to fly aboard an EP-3E reconnaissance aircraft during the Cold War. Melissa completed subsequent deployments as part of Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After leaving Naval service Melissa achieved her MBA and began her own successful business. Melissa’s husband Nico Melendez proudly continues the family’s military service as a Commander in an active naval reserve unit and their son Angelo also serves in the U.S. Navy and is stationed in Florida. April 20, 2021 The Honorable Assembly Member Jordan Cunningham California State Assembly State Capitol, Suite #4012 Sacramento, CA 94249 Re: COVID-19 Assistance for Publicly Owned Water and Electric Customers Dear Assembly Member Cunningham: On behalf of City of Lompoc, we strongly urge the Legislature to allocate additional and dedicated funding in the amount of at least $1 billion for past-due public water/wastewater agency and publicly owned electric utility bills, which will provide significant relief for Californians as the state continues to grapple with the economic and personal effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. In California, there is a staggering amount of past due utility bills. As of November 2020, the State Water Resources Control Board estimated there is between $600 and $700 million in drinking water-related debt, and even more when including wastewater bills. In addition, there is more than $300 million in unpaid bills to publicly owned electric utilities. These mounting arrearages are negatively impacting communities across the state, and they are continuing to grow. The City of Lompoc has been significantly affected both in overall revenue loss and past due utility bills. We currently have $4,970,636 in past due utility accounts. In order to maintain operations, we have issued a moratorium on shutoffs for non-payment, and have also suspended late charges. There have been several efforts to date to provide utility bill relief to customers, including some funding from federal stimulus bills, but unfortunately these amounts continue to fall short of the overall need for utility debt. Further assistance is needed to help customers with their past-due water, wastewater and electric utility bills.

Atkins Speaker of the Assembly President pro Tempore of the Senate State Capitol, Room 219 State Capitol, Room 205 Sacramento, CA 95814 Sacramento, CA 95814 Dear Speaker Rendon and President Pro Tem Atkins, We respectfully request that the Legislature convene a joint, bi-partisan committee to hold oversight hearings regarding the Newsom Administration’s unwillingness to share COVID-19 data with the public. To regain the public’s trust, it is crucial that we share data with the public, including the formulas and calculations that are being used to guide the Governor’s decisions related to responding to the pandemic. This information is critical to understanding the reasons behind the abysmal vaccine rollout, as well as the seemingly-random issuance of stay-at-home orders and business closures. It is important to hold the Administration accountable when so many lives are at stake. During the Governor’s recent stay-at-home order, his Administration has yet to share the data relied upon to lift the order in the Greater Sacramento region, or information in the recent statewide lift, despite the fact that ICU capacity in some regions is far below the 15% threshold he established when he imposed the order. This has confused communities, counties and businesses, leaving them unprepared to take immediate action. The Administration’s justification that the data and modeling are too complicated is both inadequate and quite frankly, insulting. The public has the right to know what is behind his decision-making process. Specifically we believe the public has a right to the following information: Data, metrics, calculations, and formulas being used to make decisions regarding stay-at- home orders and vaccine distribution.

California SEIU Developmental Disabilities Council 2015 First Quarter Update First Quarter Meeting Lanterman Coalition ‐ Budgetary Advocacy ‐ Catherine McCoy and David Mulvey have been representing the council on the Lanterman Coalition monthly meetings. We were successful this year in encouraging the Lanterman Coalition to adopt and promote a joint budget plan. Across the state we have been supporting the Lanterman Coalition 10% plan. On January 23rd our ARC SF members worked in concert with Golden Gate Regional Center and other local service providers to put on a successful rally in San Francisco is support of the campaign. The rally was covered by local media including KTVU Fox, and KCBS Radio. On March 4th we also participated in a large Lanterman Coalition Rally on the Capitol steps. Dave Mulvey was one of the speakers chosen to address the group. Later that day our members attended and gave testimony at the Assembly budget sub-committee hearings. On March 12th our members attended and gave testimony at the Senate Budget Sub Committee. California State Council on Developmental Disabilites – Employment First Committee. Dave Mulvey continues to represent us on this committee that has a legislative mandated to look at ways to increase employment for persons with Developmental Disabilities. Department of Developmental Disabilities Self-Determination Program Workgroup Dave Mulvey also represents us on this group, and continues to consult with SEIU Local and International staff on organizing opportunities this program may present and how to best structure the program. Health and Human Service Department’s Delivery Service Task Force: Catherine McCoy represents us on the task force.
