JOB TITLE: Managing and Business Development Editor, Reproductive BioMedicine Online (RBMO) COMPANY: Reproductive Healthcare Ltd LOCATION: Bourn Hall, High Street, Bourn, Cambridge CB23 2TN REPORTING TO: Chief Editor ACCOUNTABLE TO: Chairman KEY RELATIONS: Chief Editor, Chairman, Editors, Managing Secretary, Adjudicators, Publisher, Financial Adviser (An overview of engagement with authors) HOURS: Full time 37.5 hours Mondays to Fridays. ROLE: To work directly with the Chief Editor and Chairman on the efficient management and strategic development of the journal. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Regular analysis and reporting of key journal metrics to assess performance and inform management and development decisions. Progressing initiatives and developments (for example novel content strands) as outlined by the Chief Editor and Chairman Identification of potential new initiatives or subject areas, to strengthen the journal's position within the market sector, in discussion with the Chief Editor and Chairman. Progressing existing activities, including social media presence, compilation of a quarterly digest, press releases and media coverage as required, in close interaction with the Chief Editor and publisher. PROFILE: - Science Post doc/PhD, ideally with relevant subject background; - Excellent interactive, team-working skills, while also having the ability to work independently - Flexible, analytical and proactive - Excellent written and verbal English communication - Experience of academic publishing and the peer review process would be helpful TARGET OUTCOMES: - Increased number of high-quality published articles and an even distribution of papers per subject section; - Faster handling of papers; - Improved feedback from authors, editors and referees; - Improved performance of the Journal in terms of citations and downloads; - Establish and support a committee for invited reviews; - Editorial expansion/innovation in related/emerging fields; - Active social media presence; - Increased press coverage through regular, targeted press releases. COMPETENCIES: - Displaying Integrity and Honesty - Connects the group to the outside world - Takes initiative - Technical/professional expertise - Practices self development - Builds relationships - Collaboration and teamwork Reproductive Healthcare Limited: Reproductive Healthcare Limited was founded in June 2000 by a group of scientists and clinicians under the leadership of Professor Sir Robert Edwards (IVF co-pioneer and 2010 Nobel Laureate) with the express purpose of launching a high standard intellectual journal in reproductive medicine which offered rapid online publication, a first in the field at the time. The first issue of Page 2 of 3 Reproductive BioMedicine Online, now RBMO, was published in the same year. The journal covers the formation, growth and differentiation of the human embryo. It is intended to bring to public attention new research on biological and clinical aspects of human reproduction and the human embryo including relevant studies on animals. Its audience comprises researchers, clinicians, practitioners, academics and patients. RBMO debut Impact Factor for 2007 was 3.206, thus becoming one of the three predominant international reproductive medicine journals alongside Fertility and Sterility and Human Reproduction. The current Impact Factor for 2017 is 2.967. From 2010, the journal has been published on our behalf by Elsevier, with editorial responsibility retained by Reproductive Healthcare Limited to take on the publishing of the RBMO Journal. This agreement was for a five year period starting from 1st January 2010. The agreement came to an end of December 2014. Following lengthy negotiations, a new Publishing Agreement was agreed with Elsevier for a further five years starting on 1st January 2015.
