Rapid Antigen Testing for Employees and the General Population Is In Rapid antigen testing for employees and the general population is in progress – Testing units According to the decree in force, employees in businesses and other professional sectors who are returning to work on 8 February, are obliged to undergo an antigen rapid test. In this context, the Ministry of Health’s program of free screening with rapid antigen test continues, in order to ensure a smooth and safe re-opening of businesses/sectors. Based on the above and to make the screening possible for everyone returning to their work place, the employees are grouped alphabetically according to their surname, as follows: Day/Date Surname – Greek Surname – Latin alphabet alphabet Saturday, 6 Π – Σ S – V February Sunday, 7 Τ – Ω W – Z February Employees are encouraged to adhere to the above alphabetical grouping, so that the program will be carried out in an organized manner without overcrowding or inconvenience. The employees with a surname Α – O (Greek alphabet) and A - R (Latin alphabet) who have not proceeded for testing yet, are asked to undergo a test in the following days, since a negative rapid test outcome constitutes a requirement for returning to work. The testing program for employees will be carried out at the same time as the testing program for the general population.     BIRD WATCHING IN CYPRUS A BRIEF GUIDE FOR VISITORS TO THE ISLAND 1 Information on Cyprus in general The position of Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean with Turkey to the north, Syria to the east and Egypt to the south, places it on one of the major migration routes in the Mediterranean and makes it a stop off point for many species which pass each year from Europe/Asia to Africa via the Nile Delta. The birds that occur regularly on passage form a large percentage of the ‘Cyprus list’ that currently totals nearly 380 species. Of these only around 50 are resident and around 40 are migrant species that regularly or occasionally breed. The number of birds passing over during the spring and autumn migration periods are impressive, as literally millions of birds pour through Cyprus. Spring migration gets underway in earnest around the middle of March, usually depending on how settled the weather is, and continues into May. A few early arrivals can even be noted in February, especially the swallows, martins and swifts, some wheatears and the Great Spotted Cuckoo Clamator glandarius. Slender-billed Gulls Larus genei and herons can be seen in flocks along the coastline. Each week seems to provide a different species to watch for. The end of March sees Roller Coracias garrulous, Masked Shrike Lanius nubicus, Cretzschmar’s Bunting Emberiza caesia, Black-headed Wagtails Motacilla flava feldegg and Red-rumped Swallows Cecropsis daurica, while on the wetlands Marsh Sandpipers Tringa stagnatilis, Collared Pratincole Glareola pratincola, Spur-winged Vanellus spinosus and Greater Sand Plover Charadrius leschenaultii can be seen.

    Rapid antigen testing units – 4 June 2021 Aiming at the continuous surveillance of the community and the workplaces, the free programmes of rapid antigen testing of the general population and employees are in progress. For the smooth and safe operation of businesses that have been activated according to the Decrees, employers in businesses, as well as the Heads of Departments/Services in the public and wider public sector, are obliged to coordinate the rapid testing of the employees, so that the mandatory weekly rapid antigen testing of at least 50% of the personnel working with physical presence, is ensured. Additionally, the self-employed and the domestic employees and/or people caring for elders or disabled persons or people providing assistance to individuals who are unable to take care of themselves are obligated to participate in the program. It is understood that exempt from the above regulation are the employees who have received the 1st dose of a licenced vaccine and three weeks have elapsed from their vaccination. For example, if a company/organization/department of the public/wider public sector employs 20 people with physical presence, of which 12 have received the 1st dose of the vaccine, the obligation for weekly testing concerns the other 8 individuals (4+4).
