Based on your conversations with 49ers CEO Jed York how do you, where do you understand your job status right now? “We’re supposed to have a meeting today after the game.”

You obviously heard the reports last night. What was your reaction when you heard that you’re expected to be fired? “I don’t really have a reaction to that. I’ll just deal with what’s my conversation with Jed. I think that’s the most important thing.”

Is it disappointing to hear it come out like that if it is indeed--? “That stuff doesn’t bother me. I don’t control what goes out there, what doesn’t go out there. I just deal with, I’m a face-to-face guy.”

And what is your--? “It’s supposed to be after the game.”

That has not been yet, obviously? “No. We just finished in the locker room.”

When did you learn that 49ers general manager Trent Baalke would be fired? “I didn’t learn that Trent Baalke was fired. I was just called last night. I heard the same reports and Jed just talked to me briefly and said that we would talk today. So, I haven’t.”

So, no one has still told you that Trent Baalke was fired? “No.”

Have you talked to Jed York? “I talked to Jed last night.”

Did you call him? “He called me and left a voicemail. Then I called him back.”

What was the tone of that conversation? “It was monotone. Are there any other types of tone? It was just a normal conversation.”

It was described by some outlets as ‘Not warm and fuzzy.’ “Is the NSA listening in on our phones? How does that come out? No, it wasn’t at all. It was a nice conversation. He said we’ll talk after the game.”

Would you be surprised or are you disappointed if you wouldn’t be coming back next year? “I don’t think anything surprises me. I don’t live my life, I live my life in vision not circumstances. I control what I can control. What we can control is how we coach our players and what we did with them. If that’s good enough, that’s good enough. If it’s not good enough, so be it. I’m proud of the way our guys played today.”

Do you think this team is on the right track? “What was that?”

Do you believe this team, this organization is on the right track? “We’ll get into that after I figure out what’s going on. Anybody want to talk about the Seahawks game?”

What’d you think about the Seahawks? “I thought the turnovers were a big factor in the football game. The 10 points off of turnovers, I think, was one of the things that really killed us. That first drive, obviously we have a mishap. Right after that, we kind of got into a little bit of a rhythm and settled down and did some good things. But, I love the way our guys battled back. I love the way they fought back. They came up big on the punt return at the end of the game. We’ve had that in for a while. Got an opportunity to run it. Get a guy like [49ers RB] Raheem Mostert who we just called up from the , contributed for us today. To drive down there and get it close, we just wish we could have gotten a stop on that last series there and see if we can get the ball back and give [49ers K] Phil [Dawson] a chance.”

Was it difficult for you, having heard these rumors? All your players obviously have heard them. “No.”

Trying to get focused? “No. It wasn’t. I love these players, so I think if I was distracted by anything else I wouldn’t be giving them what they deserve and they give me everything on every day, so I have to give that back to them. Those guys are awesome. We’ve had a lot of different players come in and out. I think it was 19 guys, went on IR. You’ve had a lot of guys that just got here a couple weeks ago, they all bought in. The entire group, whoever it was, you watch the effort [T] Joe Staley played with today coming off an injury. There was no keeping Joe off the field. He was going to play in this game. [TE] Garrett Celek who is running a fever and probably shouldn’t have played, but sucked it up. We lost [TE] Je’Ron Hamm in pregame warm ups. We have a bunch of guys who just competed and gave everything they had. One thing we talk about here all the time is don’t complain. We’re all privileged to play this game and coach this game, so every time you have an opportunity to do it, go out and do it.”

What was Hamm’s injury? “He broke his leg, pregame warm-up.”

How? “I didn’t see it, so I couldn’t give you specifics on it, but I know he broke his leg. I know it was tough on him. Just a great young man. He is a helluva kid. You felt bad for him.”

Any players come up to you and ask what was going on with your status? “Before the game no. I don’t think, I was going to coach the game, so I don’t think that should affect them. I hope they can properly plan and get ready to go play the football game.”

You said before the game, understood. How about after the game? Did anybody come up and ask? “Yeah, we got a lot of hugs in there.”

A lot of people think you should keep your job. Did you have the roster to win this year? “Excuse me, I didn’t hear the second part. I just heard the first part. Say that again.”

A lot of people think you should keep your job. Did you have the roster to win more than two games this year? “We don’t control the roster, so I think the one thing is our job as coaches is to create an environment where our players have an opportunity to be successful and that’s what we have to do. I don’t look at, ‘I wish I had this. I wish I had that.’ We were fortunate for the guys we had and we tried to coach them as hard as we could and as well as we could.”

How do you think you grew this year as a coach this year with all the challenges? “Well, I think the players in terms of our relationships with those guys and just the feedback. When you have great leaders like Joe Staley, and [S] Antoine Bethea, [DT] Glenn Dorsey, and guys like that and [K] Phil Dawson, the chance to interact with them everyday, watch their preparation, watch how professional they are and have them show not only the coaches and the younger players what it’s like to be a professional football player. I thought that was an awesome deal this year to be around a bunch of guys like that.”

Sorry, the question was how you grew. “I grew by learning from those guys.”

You did? Okay, sorry I misunderstood. “Okay. It’s okay.”

This was the last game, how would you analyze the whole season? What happened? “We were 2-14. That’s how I would analyze the whole season.”

How good of a job do you think you did? “I’m not grading myself.”

Hi Chip. Just a year ago, we were saying, ‘Hello and welcome to San Francisco.’ Here we are maybe saying goodbye. “Yeah.”

How did it happen? “Well, I think our record wasn’t, it’s a bottom line business. So, we probably didn’t win enough games.”

Do you imagine you’re going to make a case for yourself with Jed or maybe it’s past that point? “No, I don’t think I’m going to The People’s Court. He wants to have a conversation, so I’ll have a conversation with him.”

Did they ask you to make a change at defensive coordinator? “No, they didn’t ask me anything. We never had any conversations about players, coaches, or anything up until probably maybe after we get done talking here. But, we hadn’t had any conversations up.”

There’s no resistance on your part? “No, we haven’t had any discussion like that. There was nothing for me to resist or to say, ‘Yeah, that’s a good idea. No, that’s a bad idea.’ They didn’t tell me that. They never told me who to play, who not to play. We just coached the guys we had and tried to do the best job we could.”

Do you have a set time for the meeting? Is there a set time? “No, there isn’t. Just after the game. We’ll see. I’m not going to go home.”

Do you feel nervous going into this meeting? Is it like seeing the principle? “No, I don’t feel nervous and I don’t look at it as going to see the principal. I just think it’s an end of the year meeting and we’ll go discuss everything positive and negative about what went on this season and see what happened.”

Closing comments: “I will say this, I do appreciate you guys. I thought my first year here with the guys that I got to work with everyday, [Sacramento Bee reporter] Matt [Barrows], [CSNBayArea.com reporter] Matt [Maiocco], the whole guys, [San Jose Mercury News reporter] Cam [Inman], [San Francisco Chronicle reporter] Eric [Branch], the rest of the group here. The guys who were here every day, [NinersWire.com reporter] Chris [Biderman], it was awesome. I really appreciate you guys. I thought you were really professional and I enjoyed it. So, thank you.”

49ers QB Colin Kaepernick Press Conference – January 1, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

Did you hear last night the news that general manager Trent Baalke and head coach Chip Kelly are both going to be fired or have been fired? “I saw reports that that was going to happen. I don’t have any confirmation or anything like that. I just saw that that could be a possibility.”

What was your reaction to that? Trent’s already said that he is going to be fired and Chip, I guess, is going to have a meeting with 49ers chief executive officer Jed York. If they are both gone, what are your thoughts about that? “That’s above me. That’s not something I have a decision or input on. I will say I appreciate Chip and what he’s done as far as coming to work every day and making sure this team stays focused and being resilient and not very good circumstances as far as how our team was playing win-loss record wise. So, I do appreciate the fact that he came in every day, worked his tail off to make sure that this team was prepared.”

How will those departures impact you whether you opt out of your contract or now at the end of the season? “That’s something that, now that we’re at the end of the season, I’ll have time to reflect on and see how things play out. Once again, I have a great appreciation for this organization, Jed and [chief strategy officer & executive vice president, football operations] Paraag [Marathe], have a good relationship with them. So, a lot of things to think about moving forward and we’ll see where this goes.”

Did it cross your mind that this could be your last game in a 49ers uniform? “No. Not today. My focus was on the Seattle Seahawks, trying to make sure I was prepared, my teammates were prepared to go out and give everything we have to try to get a win today.”

Even when walking off the field, you didn’t let that get into your mind? “No. At that point, I was still thinking about what I could have done differently during the game to try to help us win. I don’t think you really think about those things until you get time to sit down, decompress and then really reflect.”

From the outside, it looked like maybe you enjoyed yourself a little more this season with this organization. First off, is that true and then did Chip make it fun for you guys? How did he interact with you? “I had a great relationship with Chip. We were always working, trying to figure out the best way to make this offense go. And once again, my relationship this year was much improved from year’s past with Jed, Paraag. I think we have a great relationship now and I was excited about that. I was excited about this organization as a whole, teammates playing hard regardless of the circumstances and coming to work every day and preparing to win regardless of what position we were put in.”

What did winning the Len Eshmont Award mean to you? “I think the thing, to me, that stood out was it was my teammates that voted on it. That really means a lot to me. I can’t express how grateful I am to have teammates like I did this year. They stood behind me regardless of any situation that went on, had a lot of great conversations in the locker room and I think even today in a situation where we have a lot of injuries, a lot of players that are new stepping on the field, we went out, we fought together and we stayed together to the very end and gave everything we had for each other. So, to me, that’s what stood out to me was that it was from my teammates and it really means a lot.”

You’ve been with this team, obviously, to the Super Bowl and through the tough times. If Kelly is let go, this will be the fourth coach in four years next season. Just through your experience, what does this team need to be successful to get back to the playoffs? What are the elements that you see that are missing that this team need? “There’s a lot of things that go into that. It could be week-to-week as far as finishing games. It could be keeping players healthy. We had a lot of players injured this year, a lot of players go on IR where you constantly have moving parts. So, it’s hard for players to get in a flow and get comfortable with the man next to him when you don’t have those reps together and building that chemistry. So, there’s a lot of things that play into that that need to be adjusted for next year.”

Saw you give Chip a pretty big hug right before the game. Was that somewhat related to the news that he might be going and you wanted to at least let him know something there? “No. I appreciate Chip and what he does on a daily basis regardless of the circumstances. I make sure I go over, I give him a hug before every game. And to me, he’s someone that, the resilience he’s shown with the circumstances that have gone on this year, I appreciate that.”

What are going to be the most important factors for you in determining whether or not you come back here or test free agency? “Once again, there will be a lot of things that play into that and I’ll have to really think about those things as this offseason approaches.”

Was there one particular thing that you absorbed from Chip this year that will stick with you in terms of making you a better ? Was there one particular area that you thought he helped you out? “I think the biggest thing is, can relate to football but more so relates to life, and that’s not letting your circumstances dictate your attitude and how you approach a situation. Once again, our circumstances weren’t the best this year, but our team came out, we played hard every week. We played for each other each week and that was something that I look at as something I can take moving forward and make sure I can continue to do that.”

The other day you talked about the different fan bases and different cities and how they reacted to you. How has this fan base reacted to you and how have you felt about them? “This fan base has been amazing. The support I’ve had, people backing me, standing behind me and saying how much they appreciate what I’m doing and what I’m trying to help others do. So, I can’t express how much I appreciate them because it’s been six years now and had a lot of good times with these fans. Some rough times as well, but they’ve always been there, they’ve always stood behind me, behind this organization and I appreciate that.”

49ers LB NaVorro Bowman Postgame Quotes – January 1, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

Do you have a timeframe on when you’ll be able to start resuming football activities or participating in an offseason program? “Yeah, I’ve started running in the pool and things like that, but not yet full speed on the field, so it’s looking good. I’ve been sitting back watching everything. We definitely have talent. You can see throughout the game that the guys are still playing hard, playing for one another. That’s what you found as a foundation for a team, guys to give 100-percent effort.”

How hard has it been for you to watch this season? “It’s been tough because I started off with these guys. For me to go down and for things to continue to go down and not pick up, it’s been tough for me to watch. Part of that is I put that on me, because guys look at me as a person to handle certain things and get us on the right pace out there. Hopefully we’re gonna get out of this slump and get back to 49er football.”

49ers DL DeForest Buckner Postgame Quotes – January 1, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

What changes do you think this team needs to make to get back on track next year? “We just need to, as a group and individually, during the offseason get better. As we can get together, we’ve all been through this rough season together and we just need to find a way to turn it around.”

Usually when a coach gets fired, you see the team stop playing for that coach. That never seemed to happen on this team. Is that the right read on this? “Yes, definitely. We never stopped fighting. Even though the way the season went, nobody gave up on [Head Coach] Chip [Kelly]. It’s the respect that we all gave him. Over the season, everybody believed in him and we just never quit.”

You have a unique perspective. Was Chip different in college versus the pros? “Yes, he was different in college than he is in the pros. I think any coach would be different in college than in the pros. He’s a hell of a coach, that’s all I gotta say, and I respect him as a coach and as a man.”

49ers K Phil Dawson Postgame Quotes – January 1, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

What’s next for you? “I’m going to go home tomorrow, I’m going to evaluate the season and let everything sink in. I’m not going to make any decisions about my future any time soon. I’m going to weigh all of my options and see what options there may or may not be. I’ll make the decision at the appropriate time.”

Do you feel you could keep going for a couple of years? “There’s no doubt this season showed me I could from a physical standpoint. Like I said, we’ll just have to see what options there are. I’ll sit down with my family and we’ll figure out what’s best for us. I don’t anticipate being in a position to make a decision any time soon.”

With the rule change, moving to the 25-yard line on touchbacks, if they tinker with that, will that have any impact on your decision? “No, but I really enjoyed being able to contribute on kickoffs this year. It was fun to be back out there. I know coming into this game we were fifth in the league in kickoff coverage. I take a lot of pride in that. There aren’t many old farts running around hitting kickoffs and helping their team in that way. That was fun. We’ll have to see what they do there, but I played all of last year without kicking off, so I’ve done it both ways.”

Do you have a timeframe in mind? “I really don’t. I just have to get home and get caught up with how everything is on the home front. When the time comes, I’ll know it.”

49ers RB Shaun Draughn Postgame Quotes – January 1, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

It was good for you to get the start in the last game. I know it’s not the result you wanted, but it’s good you have two touchdowns in your last two games. That must be good going into the offseason. “Absolutely. I’m just humbled to really still be playing. To have an opportunity to start in this league is huge. To come out and play the way I did is gratifying.”

The very first touch you had went the wrong way for you. Was it discouraging? How did you overcome that? “You’re going to have those ups and downs in the game. You just have to put that behind you and keep the next play in your view.”

Last year you talked about all the travel you had and all of the different teams. Was it good to finally have some stability this year? “Definitely. This is only my second time playing a full year in six years. It’s definitely a blessing to really be at home so to speak and have some stability, especially for my family. I’m good with moving around as long as I’m doing what I love. That’s the most important thing.”

49ers WR Torrey Smith Postgame Quotes – January 1, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

At this time of year when everyone has to evaluate and obviously when the record is 2-14 the evaluation is not good, where are you in that status right now? “I am just like everyone else. I have to get evaluated on how you have done and then see what happens.”

Did San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly say anything? “He always thanks everyone each and every week. So, I wouldn’t say that he said anything crazy, in my opinion.”

49ers T Joe Staley Postgame Quotes – January 1, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

What do you think happened this season? “It seems like we were in a ton of games, we start really fast, we get out to two or three great drives in the first quarter, second quarter and for some reason we sputter in the third quarter coming out of halftime. That was one thing that we didn’t do well this year. Personally, I have to show more leadership. It has to be more accountability in meeting rooms, on the field those are some of the things that I, being a veteran player, being probably the oldest guy on this team that I have to focus in on this offseason. To do a better job of being a leader, being more vocal is something that I can focus on and do better for this football team.”

You could have sat out of this game and no one would have batted an eye, is that partly why you wanted to play in this finale, to send a message to the younger guys, that this is what you do when you are a professional? “I never really thought of anything like that. It is just that I am a professional football player and if I am healthy, if I am good enough to go, I am going to play. I get paid to play left tackle; I don’t get paid to sit on the sideline. It wasn’t really a message or anything, I was just trying to get healthy and rehab my hamstring. If I felt like I was good enough to go out there, I was going to go out there.”

San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly said that he learned from leaders like you this season, what did you learn from him? “I learned how to stay together really. As bad as it is to say that with a 2-14 record because we are a results business. It is a bummer, this whole season has been kind of a bummer. There was a time during the last two weeks, I looked around the locker room and didn’t even know the names of some of the guys in here. The turnover was crazy. There were a ton of injuries coming through down the stretch and no one really blinked everyone just came to work. We could have really lost this football team and he did a great job of just keeping everyone focused throughout.”

Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll Press Conference – January 1, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

Opening Comments: “Well, we got done what we had to get done today. We got a win, got out of here, and I’m real proud of the statement of winning ten games for five years in a row. I think that’s pretty darn good ten or more. It just shows you the commitment of these guys, and their ability to keep coming back and staying with it. So, it doesn’t mean a whole lot to anybody else, but just for the consistency part of it is something that we’re proud of and I like that. In today’s game, we had a chance to win it and try to take care of some guys. I don’t know if you could tell or not. I’m sure you’re wondering, but we were able to do that once we heard what was going on in the other game. So, whether that’s right or wrong or not I felt like I was in outer space with that, very uncomfortable. I can’t remember really doing it like that. Maybe I have, but I can’t remember, and it’s just uncomfortable to have to do that. So, that’s why we took [Seattle Seahawks QB] Russell [Wilson] out and [Seattle Seahawks DE Michael Bennett] Mike and [Seattle Seahawks TE] Jimmy [Graham] and [Seattle Seahawks WR] Doug [Baldwin] and a bunch of guys. Just trying to put as little pounding on them as possible going into next week. So, I thought it was a great job of [Seattle Seahawks QB Trevone] Boykin to get in there and get it done. Put together a great drive for the guys up front to finish the game with 5 or something, 5:40 or something on the clock. And to finish the game on offense is a great statement for our guys, and everybody who was on the field came through. [Seattle Seahawks WR] Tanner [McEvoy] did a good job. [Seattle Seahawks WR] Jermaine [Kearse] did a good job. The guys up front did a good job. So, I was really fired up for that. So, here we go. It’s time, and these guys are really pumped. They know it’s finally time to get ready for playoffs. We don’t know who we’re playing. We don’t care. We’re just going to get a little trip, get home and a little happy new year, and away we go next week.”

You felt in outer space compared to the players, your staff? “No, just because I’m not making the decisions. It’s just do everything we could possibly do to win the game. I never am in that frame of mind, and I’ll always challenge that thought. I hate backing off at any time ever. I can’t remember doing it very many times, ever. I just thought it was, we needed to do something to do what we could to protect ourselves for next week.”

When did you determine you would do that? “Well, you could see when Mike stopped playing I think was when. We had Mike coming out of there. We had Jimmy coming out.”

I mean, sorry, when in the week? “I didn’t think about it. I didn’t think about it, and did not have a plan for it. I was, I did not want to be planning for that. And, it just kind of happened that it seemed like we need to do something to help and it worked out fine. So, I ain’t worried about it one bit. It’s over.”

When they cut the lead did you think about putting Russell back in? “No. We were going to finish it the way we went.”

What’s the outlook for this team now going into the playoffs? “We’re going. We’re playing at home, and whoever comes in we’re fired up and ready to go. Pretty healthy across the board and these guys are really excited about whatever comes up, and we’re looking forward to getting this thing started.”

Was how you used Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls part of the preservation and backing off a little bit? “Mhmm. Mhmm.”

How did Seattle Seahawks RB Alex Collins look? “I thought he looked really good. Alex did a fine job. He’s made some really good statements here the last few weeks, and really gives us a really comfortable thought that he can get in there and do some good stuff, and catching the ball as well. Had a really good pick-up and protection today, as well as run the ball. So, good stuff.”

The way the defense couldn’t respond to those early touchdown drives, shut them down--? “Yeah, I mean we gave up two-thirds of their yards in the first two times they had the ball it seemed. And then the guys adjusted beautifully. The coaches did a really good job. [Defensive Coordinator] Kris [Richard] did a fine job of just shifting some things around so we would match up the way we needed to, to fit the plan that they were throwing at us, and it worked out great. I would like to say, I thought the Niners played tough as hell today. I thought they did a really good job. They were in it all the way, and were battling in all phases and I thought that was really clear. They did a nice job.”

What do you think overall of just the way the defense is playing these past few weeks going into the post season? “Well, we’re going to be fine. We’re going to give it everything we’ve got. I ain’t worried about that. All the worries that you guys have, I ain’t got ‘em. We’re going to go play football the way we know how to play, and go forward one game at a time just like we always do. It’s a championship opportunity and we’ll crank it up and go.”

You mentioned winning 10 or more for five straight years. Doug brought that up to you, just the consistency over the years. What does that mean? “Yeah, we’re really, really proud of that. And I think it speaks to a lot of facets of our program. I think the job that John has done to keep our roster strong and competitive, our core players who have led this thing for years, they’re the ones who have done this. And that’s a great accomplishment for these guys. I don’t know if the franchise has ever done that before, which I don’t care if they have or not. It just, it’s, that’s a terrific statement positioning ourselves to have a chance to do great things at the end of the year, and here we go again.”

What happened with Seattle Seahawks LS Nolan Frese? “He sprained his ankle. Yeah, he was hobbling the whole time and he did a pretty good job. He had the one snap and just went air ball on us.”

How do you feel about the offensive line in general and Seattle Seahawks T George Fant in particular? “I don’t know. I don’t know what I think about George. I’d have to see the film and all, but I thought our guys played really tough and finished the game well. Didn’t feel like we were getting good spacing early on. [Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line] Tom [Cable] did a couple really good things to help us and the run started popping a little bit. It was enough of a run day to play off of, and the play action stuff worked fine. We got out on the edge on them off of the running game, and that’s really what we needed to do.”

How pivotal was Doug Baldwin in getting that ball? “Oh that was a great play. That play Jimmy, I love the fact that Russell saw Jimmy down there and threw the ball up for him to go make a play, and he did. And I thought that was awesome. Thought that play was a ridiculous catch and fantastic for Doug too. You know, getting the franchise record, whatever that was, all those catches and the great season that he’s had. It was beautiful that he got that done today.”

Another great season, Seattle Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner, 167 tackles, how did you think he played today? “Yeah, yeah, amazing stuff. He played great, had 12 tackles on our account and a sack. A couple sacks, right? A couple sacks today. The thing about Bobby is not that that was such a great game. He’s had great games one after another, after another all season long. Nobody’s played better football anywhere that I’ve seen in this league. He’s just been such a stellar part of what we’re doing, and he puts the numbers up week in and week out, and he’s been a great leader for us.”

What, if anything, did you say to San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Chip Kelly after the end? “Just I thought they played really well, you know? I thought it was a really good game and they did a good job.”

What did Seattle Seahawks DT Jarran Reed get ejected for and what was going on? “Somewhere in there he threw a punch in the midst of all that. So, he deserved to get ejected.”

What was going on with him and Seattle Seahawks DE Frank Clark on the sideline? “Frank was just trying to teach him and he didn’t want to hear it, and they got messed up and everybody took care of business and it was fine.”

Having Seattle Seahawks CB Richard Sherman return and Seattle Seahawks RB J.D. McKissic go back for the kickoff return, how did you feel that went? “I thought Richard did a great job. You know, he’s been practicing for years for this moment when we’d have to call on him. And J.D. really can return punts as well, we wanted to just make sure that we really knew what we had, and Sherman was great throughout the game to get that done. And we’ll figure out what we’re going to do this week.”

Pretty good role for J.D. today, he played a lot of snaps and just kind of--? “Yeah. He played really well. You know, he caught something like two or three balls he caught, and carried the ball and returned, I thought he did a fine job for his first time out. We’re excited about this guy.”

When you took some of the starters and you still had the three seed verse the four seed in play, was it just more important--? “No, I don’t want to talk about that. That had nothing to do with anything. I don’t even know how that works. They just tell me who we play and I don’t know how that works. If you want to ask, Pete Cooney is the one guy that would know how that works, and you could ask Pete. He has the rundown.”

The issue was when you lost the chance at the two seed, or in your mind you thought that you’d have the two seed. Is that when you started pulling players out? “Yeah, somebody told me it was a blowout and that’s when. I didn’t know anything about the situation of the game other than that.”

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson Press Conference – January 1, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

Opening comments: “Another ten win season, that’s obviously huge. We think about ten wins every year or more and that’s not easy to do in the National Football League. I think it comes down to consistency, it comes down to hard work, players playing for one another, our coaching staff is unbelievable, we believe it them, and having the best fans in the National Football League. So, obviously we get to go to the playoffs again, that’s an exciting thing. We’re pumped up for that. It’s going to be obviously a great time and it’s a new season. Everyone is starting 0-0 and whoever we play, we’re excited about the opportunity to play at home in front of our amazing fans.”

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll talked about how uncomfortable it was for him pulling you from the game and other guys, letting off the gas. I’m sure for you it was an odd feeling. “Yeah, for sure. At the end of the day you’ve got to trust coach and his opinions and what he’s doing. He knows what he’s doing. He’s one of the best coaches in the National Football League, Hall-of-Fame type coach. So in terms of taking us out, I didn’t know the situation with the Atlanta thing. I guess he took us all out once we figured out they won or were winning by a lot. I don’t think it’s a bad decision, I obviously love playing. So anytime I can be on the field as much as I can. It was a great thing, [Seattle Seahawks QB Trevone] Boykin did a great job. I’m excited to see him step up for us. He’s worked so hard and to be able to work with him every day and that part of it, it’s really exiting for him. To be able to step into a National Football League game and to be able to move down the field and get those third downs when we needed to, he had a nice scamper and run. He hit [Seattle Seahawks FB] Marcel [Reece] on the flat that was really cool. He got the nice one to [Seattle Seahawks TE] Luke [Willson] and that was great. That’s an encouraging thing for us and to see guys step up in crucial moments, it’s always good. All we care about is winning. That’s all I’ve ever cared about. To get another win, like I said ten wins again, that’s the exciting part and onto the playoffs.”

Did you know before that drive you might be coming out and if not what was your reaction? “No, I didn’t know. I’m always never thinking about that. I’m always thinking about playing. When coach made the decision, I was for it and I saw that some other guys weren’t playing too. He just made those decisions. We knew that we were going to have a home game and so that was kind of our focus trying to get some rest, trying to get ready, allowing nothing crazy to happen. We’re excited about the opportunity. Obviously we’ll come back home in front of the 12, and I know everyone in Seattle will be pumped up and ready to roll. We can’t wait for that opportunity to play another game at home.”

Did you need Boykin to yell at you to realize you were coming out. I mean, you’ve never done it before. “I thought maybe he was coming in for a receiver maybe. I’m just kidding. I understood what he was trying to do when he was doing it. That decision I support 100 percent and understand. Once again, I always love to play as much as I can. You only get so many days to get to play this great game and you’re so passionate about it. That’s why every moment counts. It was a great think though. Trevone was able to get in there and do so well. That’s an exciting thing for our football team. That was great.”

Can you take us through that big play to Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham where he had the defender kind of boxed out at the goal line? “We have a seven-foot-two tight end that can jump out the roof so you want to give him a chance. Obviously it was a scramble. He went deep and made a great, great catch and boxed out the guy. I made fun of him and said, ‘Hey little guy, can’t you get in the end zone right there?’ It was a great play by him, he’s got great hands, and I trust him like crazy. He can do everything we want him to do. He had an unbelievable season and so many guys made so many crucial plays. You think about Doug Baldwin, I think he had 90-plus catches, 94 catches or something like that, franchise record. You think about Jimmy Graham on the season that he’s had. In my opinion, and I keep saying this to you guys, but I think he’s the Comeback Player of the Year just because of the impact that he’s had and to be able to overcome the situation that he had physically and to play at such a high level week in and week out. I think all the catches that he made, there’s nobody better. So, it was a great thing. Once again, another huge team win. Guys were making plays all over the field. [Seattle Seahawks WR] Jermaine Kearse made some nice catches, so many guys making plays.”

Do you think Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin’s catch kind of revived the offense? “I don’t think we needed revival. I think we just needed a couple plays here and there. He made a great play down the field. Doug Baldwin has always been clutch for us, he’s always made plays. He did a great job on his route, he made it up the field and made a great catch. That was a cool catch because of how he came down with it and then held onto it. That was pretty exciting. I think the next play was the one to Jimmy Graham. So both of those guys made great plays and so they’re’ the toughest guys in the league and toughest guys to cover. You think about Jimmy Graham as a tight end and Doug Baldwin, two of the most talented players at their positions. That’s exciting to have those guys in your arsenal.”

It was sort of similar to last week when the start was a little rough and then you got going. “I think in the first quarter they had the ball for a while. They were really running the clock and kind of taking their time. We had the chance on third down, I kind of missed Jimmy there unfortunately. That kind of messed up but got the field goal. I think the next time we snapped it because we thought they jumped offside, I thought they did too. We just missed that and they made a good play. I think we were going to have a good play on that one. That was really it for the first quarter. They did a good job, the San Francisco 49ers, they did a good job running the ball and taking a lot of time off the clock in the first quarter. But, we were able to overcome it and we didn’t need a revival, we just needed an opportunity to make a play. We’ve done so many great things this year and been able to score as much as we can when we need to so there’s no doubt in our football team and the confidence that we have. I thought our O-Line did a great job today. I thought the time that I had in the pocket and them around me to make plays and make decisions, I think they had a great week. They had a great week in the second half last week and they really turned it up this week and had a great week in practice and in the game. That was really cool to watch.”

Closing statement: “Thank you guys. Go Hawks.”

Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin Postgame Quotes – January 1, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

What can you say about the season? “We have won 10 games. That is huge for us. I think it has been five years now with 10 games or more that we have won. I am thankful to be a part of it.”

What were the improvements that were made from last week and where is there room to grow? “At times we felt like we weren’t ourselves a little bit more than we have been in the past, especially in the first half. It still comes down to consistency. We have the talent, we have the players, and the ability to do it. We just have to do it, play in and play out.”

What set up your 41-yard catch that you had? “It was an opportunistic play for us. We knew the coverage we were going to get, and I was given the chance to go up and make the play.”

Seahawks RB Alex Collins Postgame Quotes – January 1, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

It looks like you’re really advancing in all phases. You showed a little bit of power running, a burst in receiving and blocking. Is this something you really focused on? “Our coach, [Seahawks Running Backs] Coach Sherm [Smith] does a lot with us. He just focuses on us being complete backs, working on our catching and our blocking and all-around. He wants it to be when any of us goes in, it’s not a loss in the game. We just work on perfecting everything as far as blocking, running hard, catching out of the backfield and out wide. We try to do it all.”

How far do you think you’ve come in those regards? “We’ve all come a long way just in perfecting our game. That’s what we do every day in practice and out there, it’s just like another practice. It’s just that everybody’s watching and we’re playing a different team.”

Did you expect to get this many carries? “I didn’t, but I come into the game with the mindset of whatever they want me to do, I’ll do it. Whether it be one, 10, 15 or 20, I’m just going to do it to the best of my ability.”

It looked like you had some bursts today. Coach [Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll] that you got into football condition as the season went on. Do you feel you gained that? “Definitely. When I first got in, it was getting the pace and the speed of the game and it was definitely a lot faster. I had to condition myself to go a lot faster and a lot longer.”

Seahawks T George Fant Postgame Quotes – January 1, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

How did you feel internally? “I came out aggressive right from the jump. I still have things I need to fix. I’ll go home and watch the film.”

Compare this to the first start you had a few weeks ago to now. “I’m more comfortable and more relaxed. I’m just having fun playing football.”

Seahawks LS Nolan Frese Postgame Quotes – January 1, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

After you got hurt, was there a concern you wouldn’t be able to come back in after halftime? “No. I felt like I could snap but the other part of my job was hard to do. It just kind of got to me towards the end.”

Is it a sprain or what? “I don’t know yet.”

How did it happen? “It was on the first punt when I was blocking a guy and I tweaked it. I honestly couldn’t tell you what happened with it.”

With that high snap, were you thinking about the ankle and that threw off your motion? “I don’t want to blame it on that, but it certainly didn’t help.”

Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner Postgame Quotes – January 1, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

You add an impressive number of tackles to your career and NFL leading total. What does that mean? “I’m just out here trying to work hard. I feel like I put it out there in the beginning of the season as something that I wanted to do. I feel like I could’ve had more if I had gotten off to a faster start at the beginning of the season.”

You got off to a pretty fast start today. How big do your eyes get when you see that ball laying there? “As soon as I saw it on the ground, it was either me or [San Francisco 49ers QB] Colin Kaepernick. Kap had it for a second, but I took it from him. I just knew that we needed turnovers. We were in the negative, I think, and we wanted to in the season in a positive. I think we did that.”

How did the San Francisco 49ers misdirection affect play calls and the results? “When they came out, they were not running anything like we thought they would do. As soon as we saw everything, we made the adjustments and played them fine. They’ve played us a long time and they made some really good adjustments, but we adjusted during the game and we prevailed once we did that.”

The pressure was dialed up today with you getting in on a sack and [Seattle Seahawks DE] Michael Bennett getting in there. How much of that was part of the game plan, and how much was it being what they gave you? “We didn’t want them to sit there and throw the ball. We wanted to get in his face because we felt like we could chase him down if he ran out of the pocket. That’s just what we tried to do.”

You talked about wanting turnovers. How much does this propel you there? “It definitely starts the year off good. We start the year off positively, and we need to create more turnovers as we go.”

Seahawks TE Luke Willson Postgame Quotes – January 1, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

This was a pretty good win for you guys to get ready for the playoffs. “I thought we took a lot of steps in the right direction. We always like to close out the game like we did there at the end. That was a big thing for us. With over five minutes left on the clock, to be able to march down the field like that gives a good taste in your mouth going into next week.”

You guys have won 10 or more games in the last five or six years. How big is that? “It’s a testament to the guys in this room and the coaches that we have here. It’s a big family. You hear stories about other teams, [but] here it’s about playing for each other. We talk about it before every game. That’s a testament to the tight games like today to be able to pull through.”

The team didn’t get a Bye but you had a chance before the came through today. How do you feel going in and having to play the first week? “A home game is what it is. It’s kind of like a new season now. Obviously everyone wants a Bye, but that doesn’t really matter to us now. We don’t have it, and we can’t look too far forward. We have to take care of business against whoever we’re playing next week and just go one game at a time.”
