Our representative would assist you from the airport / Station to your hotel at Kovalam for check-in. Kovalam, South of Trivandrum, one of India's best beaches and famous for water sports in Southern India. The day's invested in exploring the unbounded beauty of this place. Day 02: Kovalam – Kanya Kumari – Kovalam AM: Breakfast at your Hotel Coffee Shop / Restaurant & Leave for The Southernmost end of Tamil Nadu, the land's end of India or the point where three seas meet. Cape Camorin of Kanya Kumari is at its best during Chitra Pournima (full moon day in April) when sun and moon are face to face at the same horizon at the confluence point of Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea. Check in at Hotel in Kumarakom. PM: Late in the afternoon we visit the Bird sanctuary, and a cruise in the backwaters. Dinner & Overnight stay at the hotel in Kumarakom. Day 05: Kumarakom AM & PM: Day at leisure, we May have an ayurvedic rejuvenation both for treatment and relaxation. It is recommended you experience the traditional oil massage here. Dinner & Overnight stay at the hotel in Kumarakom. Day 06: Kumarakom - Cochin(90 Kms./2-3hrs) AM: Breakfast at your Hotel Coffee Shop / Restaurant & Leave for Cochin, Cochin always had a very popular and historical sea trade connection with Middle East, Mediterranean Europe, Dutch and British. It has one of the finest natural harbors on the Arabian coastline. Its cosmopolitan character is reflected in the buildings and structures representing different regions of the world. It is one of the few places in the world where one can see a Jewish synagogue, Portuguese churches, architecture, mosques, temples and Chinese fishing nets, all in one city. A city of peninsulas and islands, today it is Kerala's commercial hub. On reaching check in at the Hotel. PM: Afternoon half day city tour of Cochin, with visits to St. Francis' Church, Dutch Palace (Built by the Portuguese), Jew Town, the Jewish Synagogue built in the year 1568, spice market, where the air is filled with the pungent smell of spices, and Chinese fishing nets. Four variables have been considered for evaluating the quality of life of the stakeholders of ecotourism sites, which is then funneled to the income-education spectrum for hypothesizing into the SLI framework. Zone-wise analysis of the community members working in tourism sector shows that the community members have benefited totally from tourism development in the region as they have got both employments as well as secured livelihood options. Most of the quality of life-indicators of the community in the eco-tourist centres show a promising position. The community perception does not show any negative impact on environment as well as on their local culture.     Report on Visit to Vembanad Kol, Kerala, a wetland included under the National Wetland Conservation and Management Programme of the Ministry of Environment and Forests. 1. Context To enable Half Yearly Performance Review of the programmes of the Ministry of Environment & Forests, the Planning Commission, Government of India, on 13th June 2008 constituted an Expert Team (Appendix-1) to visit three wetlands viz. Wular Lake in J&K, Chilika Lake in Orissa and Vembanad Kol in Kerala, for assessing the status of implementation of the National Wetland Conservation and Management Programme (NWCMP). 2. Visit itinerary The Team comprising Dr.(Mrs.) Indrani Chandrasekharan, Advisor(E&F), Planning Commission, Dr. T. Balasubramanian, Director, CAS in Marine Biology, Annamalai University and Dr. V. Sampath, Ex-Advisor, MoES and UNDP Sr. National Consultant, visited Vembanad lake and held discussions at the Vembanad Lake and Alleppey on 30 June and 1st July 2008. Details of presentations and discussions held on 1st July 2008 are at Appendix-2. 3. The Vembanad Lake Kerala has a continuous chain of lagoons or backwaters along its coastal region. These water bodies are fed by rivers and drain into the Lakshadweep Sea through small openings in the sandbars called ‘azhi’, if permanent or ‘pozhi’, if temporary. The Vembanad wetland system and its associated drainage basins lie in the humid tropical region between 09˚00’ -10˚40’N and 76˚00’-77˚30’E. It is unique in terms of physiography, geology, climate, hydrology, land use and flora and fauna. The rivers are generally short, steep, fast flowing and monsoon fed.
