The international tour features some of the deadliest stunts in live entertainment. NEW YORK, May 6, 2021 (Newswire.com) -Hellzapoppin, the world's greatest international touring rock-n-roll circus sideshow, has officially announced its "Face YourFears" 2nd U.S. tour dates for 2021. The vaudeville freak show of wonder features live stunts such as fire eating and fire breathing, magic and illusions, and a real live half-man. Members of the audience will see legendary and world- breaking crossbow artistry, acrobatic stunts, sword swallowing, the human blockhead, human oddities and curiosities, and much more. "Our fans are about to meet a cavalcade of human curiosities, the likes of which they've never seen before," said Hellzapoppin's Ringleader and Producer Bryce "the Govna" Graves. "I will be their shepherd and guide on a journey of miraculous discovery through the world of the strange, the odd, the bizarre, the macabre, and where the most unusual people entertain. I've spent the past year rebuilding and redesigning the entire show from top to bottom." Hellzapoppin's performers have been featured on a wide variety of major television shows, including but not limited to Masters of Illusions, AMC's Freakshow, America's Got Talent, Britain's Got Talent and the best-selling magic show in Broadway history, The Illusionists! Hellzapoppin has been on the ride of their lives. In total they have performerd over 2,000 shows but in the past three years alone, the group has performed over 400 shows in 16 different countries, and they have performed with bands such asAvatar, In This Moment, John 5, and Mushroomhead. The group has performed in front of millions ofpeople at some of the world's biggest and most famous festivals, such as Wacken Festival inGermany, Riot Fest in Chicago, and Alcatraz Festival in Belgium. Page 2 Hellzapoppin's first 2020 tour was supposed to take them to Russia but was canceled just weeks before the show due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following this cancellation, the European and Canadian tours were also canceled, followed by the two USA tours as well. When a show is canceled, it can be extremely difficult for the independent artists that make Hellzapoppin come alive. With many of the performers living paycheck to paycheck while traveling the world doing what they do best, entertaining and making people happy, 2020 turned out to be a devastating, stressful, and life- threatening year for many. Countless people lost their jobs and loved ones during the pandemic, which seemed to drown out the stories of professional touring artists losing their livelihoods over the past year. Some musicians have been able to get by hosting online concerts, but this was not the case for the hundreds of thousands of circus performers, comedians, dancers, magicians, theater performers, etc. These performers employ hundreds of thousands of touring road crews, bus and truck drivers, roadies and roustabouts, merchandisers, ticket takers and sellers, and security personnel - all of which were taken away by the pandemic. Hellzapoppin desperately wants to inspire the world not to live in fear. As performing artists, the group feels the burning desire to be on stage now more than ever, because people need an opportunity to escape the pain and struggle they have endured this past year. Now more than ever, people need real live entertainment to escape, to forget and most importantly let go and have fun. Hellzapoppin's performers have an obligation to try and bridge the gap and bring the people back together. The definition of FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real. The definition of Hellzapoppin is Chaos. It means anything can happen and it probably will. With Hellzapoppin stepping up and pioneering a tour in early 2021, the show's performers hope to lead by example and show everyone that there is no need to be fearful anymore while remaining cautious to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Hellzapoppin is among the last of the touring circus sideshows in the world today. Its performers are committed to preserving the art, heritage, culture, past, and future that the artform brings to the table, and they are determined to not let it die because of a pandemic. This year will feature many star-studded performers on Hellzapoppin such as Meezee the Classic American Circus & Sideshow artist in the modern day known as The Chairman of Cheers, The Clown Prince & The Royal Rouge of Sideshow. MeeZee specializes in the daredevil balancing art of chair stacking. How many chairs will he stack? How high will he go? Fans will also get the chance to witness the world's most amazing half-man, Mr. Short E. Dangerously. This tiny daredevil is cut in half at the waist and walks bare-handed on broken shards of glass while on fire. World renown AGT Champion Crossbow artist Mr. Ben Blaque is set to perform death-defying stunts live on stage. He received an immediate standing ovation from Snoop Dog, Rosario Dawson, and Cody Rhodes from the GO BIG SHOW when he shot an apple off his own head using a crossbow, not to mention he was blindfolded. Ben has also appeared as "The Weapon Master," touring across America, Australia, Europe and South America. Also making an appearance this year is the mysterious, sultry, and spellbinding fabulous woman of enchantment - Ms. Willow Lauren. Beautiful beyond desire and cruel beyond words, Willow is a former motorcycle stunt-rider turned international touring sideshow stuntwoman and aspiring illusionist and aerialist. Willow performs the contortion bladebox of death. She not only eats fire - she also eats and regurgitates razor blades, and she will even swallow a lifesaver down her throat and pull it out of her neck to the amazement of the crowd. Mr. Auzzy Blood will be making his first-ever appearance with Hellzapoppin this year.     Gasworks Circus Showdown 2020 Entering Circus Showdown Gasworks Circus Showdown is Gasworks Arts Park's professional development program for circus and physical theatre artists and one of the only opportunities of its kind in Victoria. We provide a platform for circus performers to develop innovative acts for presentation, culminating in an on-stage showcase in front of a live audience and industry experts. Entries received are shortlisted, and finalists perform in one of two Heats, and if selected, go on to perform at the Finale. Due to the current restrictions to help control the spread of COVID-19, postponed dates are subject to Government health advice. The new 2020 dates are: Wed 14 (Heat 1), Thu 15 (Heat 2) and Sat 17 (Finale) October. Gasworks will advise ASAP if further postponement becomes necessary. What kind of work are we looking for? Entries are invited from individuals or groups of circus performers of all kinds. Acts or excerpts of acts must be between 10 to 15 minutes in duration. Preference will be given to work that has not had a ticketed season in Melbourne. You must complete all sections of the entry form and be available for the rehearsal and performance dates including the Finale show. You will need to ensure you (and, where applicable, your group) can be available for rehearsals, which will take place the week before the Heats and Finale.     Networking Knowledge 10(3)Sex and Sexualities in Popular Culture (Oct. 2017) The Hidden Sex: Representations of Intersex People in Circus and Sideshow Novels NAOMI FRISBY, Sheffield Hallam University ABSTRACT Despite being the hidden sex in society, intersex people with ambiguous genitalia are visible in a number of circus and sideshow novels. These characters are often used as plot devices, performing a stable gender identity whilst concealing their intersex status for the sake of the plot. They are portrayed as deceptive and licentious, their identities placing them outside of the sex and gender binaries and leaving them dehumanised. It is only in Pantomime by Laura Lam that the possibility of an alternative portrayal is glimpsed, although questions regarding the sex and gender binaries and non-normative sexuality remain. KEYWORDS Intersex, Gender, Performativity, Sexuality, Literature Introduction The US publishing industry came under scrutiny in 2015 due its failure to offer a true reflection of the society in which we live. A ‘Diversity Baseline Survey’ (2015) conducted by the publisher Lee & Low Books sought to explain why, in the past twenty years, the number of diverse books published in the USA never exceeded an average of 10%. The authors of the survey drew a correlation between the high percentage of white (80), cis (98.7), heterosexual (88.2), non-disabled (92.8) people working in the publishing industry and the lack of broad representation in published books. One genre in which we might expect to find a diverse range of characters is circus and sideshow literature. The circus has been seen as a safe space for those who fall outside of mainstream society, particularly those with non-normative bodies1.

She’ll activate those gag reflexes once more as she slowly puts a sword down her throat at World Sword Swallower’s Day in Grand Prairie on Feb. 28. Could that be dangerous to the baby, I had to wonder? “The human body is awesome,” says the Dallas mom. “This is my one opportunity to show off what my body is capable of doing pregnant. [Let's] just hope my son isn’t born with a pierced ear!” Jai Le Bait is part of a very small fraternity of sword swallowers. In fact, only a few dozen people participate in this style of circus performance art worldwide, and only 15 percent of those are women, says Dan Meyer, president of Sword Swallowers Association International. It isn’t a trick, either: The performers at Ripley’s Believe It or Not on Feb. 28 are actually swallowing swords. Meyer estimates it took him about 13,000 tries over four years before he successfully swallowed his first sword. Gulp! Performers at World Sword Swallower’s Day honor those who have died from their injuries, like Dallas’ Rosemary Puente, who died in 1968 from a 1/4 inch cut at the age of 25, Meyer says.

At a time when other traditional entertainments are withering, the circus is evolving, gaining strength, astonishing new generations of children with its distinctive panoply of sights, sounds, smells and emotions. Now the Museum of Science and Industry will take us "Under the Big Top" to look at the mystique of the circus. Beginning today, the Hyde Park museum will present a 15,000-square-foot exhibit based on the traveling "Circus Magicus," more than 200 artifacts, photographs and videos of circus history developed by the Musee de La Civilisation in Quebec. The exhibit was co- produced by Cirque du Soleil, one of the performance groups that is re-creating the concept of the circus in our time. Some of the artifacts are remarkable, including a cast of a bronze statuette of an acrobat from ancient Rome, the makeup of famous American clowns, photographs such as one of the bearded woman Annie Jones, and a reproduction of a show costume worn by the great acrobat Karl Wallenda, who died performing his act in the 1960s. In addition, the museum staff has developed some lively components of their own to complement Circus Magicus. "Giant Science Circus" highlights the science behind the magic. How can tightrope walkers stay on a cable five-eighths of an inch thick? Why is the diameter of a circus ring always 42 feet? The answers to these questions are based in physics.
