Conference games still tied after a five-minute 5-on-5 overtime advance to a five-minute 3-on-3 overtime (and sudden victory shootout if still tied) with the team that wins the second overtime/shootout receiving an extra point in the standings (3/SW in the standings). *St. Cloud State wins tiebreaker based on third NCHC tiebreaker - head-to-head regardless of balanced schedule (sweep of Denver Dec. 11-12) nCaa Frozen Four NCHC NewS aNd NoteS Frozen Four games at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. • For the first time in the three-year history of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), the NCHC will have a participant in the NCAA National Saturday, april 9 Schedule Championship game. No. 3/2 North Dakota will face No. 1/1 Quinnipiac in (1) No. 3/2 North Dakota vs. (1) No. 1/1 Quinnipiac, 8:00 p.m. ET Saturday’s national championship after defeating fellow NCHC foe No. 7/4 TV: ESPN2/TSN2 Denver, 4-2, in Thursday’s second national semifinal. The NCHC has seen five teams make the Frozen Four in its first three years, including UND all three seasons, but had gone 0-3 in national semifinals previously. The five Frozen thurSday, april 7 reSultS Four teams are the most of any conference over the last three years. Frozen Four Semifinals • North Dakota is making its 13th appearance in the NCAA National (1) No. 1/1 Quinnipiac 3, (2) No. 6/3 Boston College 2 Championship game, going 7-5 in such games, and is appearing in its first title (1) No. 3/2 North Dakota 4, (2) No. 7/4 Denver 2 game since 2005. The Fighting Hawks are looking for their eighth national championship in program history and first since 2000. They would also nCaa regional reSultS become the first NCAA champion in NCHC history. UND is in its 22nd Frozen Friday, March 25 Four appearance, which ties for third-most in NCAA history. • North Dakota sophomore forward Nick Schmaltz scored the game-winning (1) No. 3/3 North Dakota 6, (4) No. 9/10 Northeastern 2 goal for UND in Thursday’s semifinal with 56 seconds remaining in regulation Midwest Region Semifinal - Cincinnati, Ohio (U.S. Bank Arena) to break a 2-2 tie. It was only his third game-winning goal this year, all of (4) No. 14/14 Minnesota Duluth 2, (1) No. 4/4 Providence 1 (2OT) which have come in the last month, while he does have six assists on game- Northeast Region Semifinal - Worcester, Mass. (DCU Center) winners as well. His “CBS” linemates of freshman Brock Boeser and senior Saturday, March 26 Drake Caggiula added five points as the line totaled six points and three goals. • NCHC teams are 2-0 all-time in the NCAA Tournament against ECAC Hockey (4) No. 18 Ferris State 5, (1) No. 2/2 St. Cloud State 4 (OT) Foes with both wins coming last season. UND defeated the same Quinnipiac West Region Semifinal - St. Paul, Minn. (Xcel Energy Center) squad in the West Region semifinals while Omaha beat Harvard in the Midwest (1) No. 3/3 North Dakota 5, (2) No. 5/6 Michigan 2 Region semifinals. During the 2015-16 regular season, NCHC teams went only Midwest Region Final - Cincinnati, Ohio (U.S. Bank Arena) 2-7-0 against ECAC Hockey foes, including St. Cloud State losing a pair of (2) No. 7/7 Denver 7, (3) No. 12/11 Boston University 2 games at Quinnipiac. Miami has the lone wins over St. Lawrence and RPI. UND West Region Semifinal - St. Paul, Minn. (Xcel Energy Center) did not face any ECAC Hockey teams during the season. (2) No. 6/5 Boston College 3, (4) No. 14/14 Minnesota Duluth 2 • North Dakota leads the country with 33 wins this season, while Quinnipiac Northeast Region Final - Worcester, Mass. (DCU Center) is second with 32. The Bobcats’ .845 winning percentage is tops nationally Sunday, March 27 while UND’s .814 win percentage is second. QU also has the fewest losses in the NCAA with only three, while UND is second with just six. The 65 wins (2) No. 7/7 Denver 6, (4) No. 18 Ferris State 3 between the teams are the most in an NCAA title game in 20 years (since West Region Final - St. Paul, Minn. (Xcel Energy Center) 1996 when Michigan and Colorado College totaled 65 wins). NCAA Tournament seeds listed in (); NCHC teams in BOLD • A conference record seven NCHC players were named AHCA/CCM All- Americans on Friday with three earning West First-Team honors and four landing on the West Second Team.
