Rolled out for the first time in the summer of 2019, this summer program is a unique recreational opportunity made possible through a creative transformation of a for- mer maintenance van. Now, many people who otherwise might have difficulty taking advantage of many of the Park and Recreation programs are able to enjoy them right in their own neighborhoods. The Rolling Rec Van makes it easy to bring summer recreation activities to the people, and can set up at many of Austin’s 28 city parks. The van is packed with a variety of games and activities for all ages, including kickball, parachute activities, Tug-o-war ropes, Rock-Paper-Scissors relays, kite flying, games of tag, bean bag boards, hula hoops and jump ropes, juggling balls, footballs, bubbles, and even dancing and singing inspired by tunes played through APAC Austin’s portable speakers. For the hottest of days, enjoy throwing water balloons, run- ning through sprinklers, and chasing each other with squirt guns. The van can also be stocked with goodies and snacks to share after the activities! Park and Recreation staff ac- company the van and lead the participants in these fun activities. Every Friday from June through August, the van is at a different area in Austin. For more information, or to rent for your special occasion, please call 507-433-1881.
