In his last book, Life Its Ownself, Dan Jenkins furthered the adventures of ex-TCU football star Billy Clyde Puckett. In the book. TCU finally be- comes a contender under the fiery leadership of a new coach and a halfback guaranteed to break all the TCU records The book was a best-seller about the same time TCI* was hitting the national rankings for foot- ball, but Jenkins says it is all a coincidence and that nothing in that book should resemble lite it's realself The prequel to/.//<< Its Ownself WAS Semi-Tough, which was made into a movie starring Burt Reynolds and Kris Kristofferson. Jenkins has also written Dead Solid Perfect and last year's Baja Oklahoma All of his books have had references to TCU, and Baja was set in Fort Worth. Jenkins is fond of the area, because. "I was born there I went to school there I haw family there and most of my best friends still live there.' Jenkins graduated from TCI' in 1953 and went on to spend 23 years working for Sports Illus- trated covering football and pro golf.
