Grantham Ramblers 2019 Walk Programme This programme is for subscription paying members of the Ramblers Association. Non-members are invited to try 3 walks before deciding on membership. Grantham Ramblers walk every other Sunday and Thursday on the dates shown with some additional monthly Wednesday mornings. All walks are graded moderate or leisurely. Please travel direct to the starting location leaving sufficient time to change into the necessary footwear. Please share cars if possible and people without transport should contact the leader. Park appropriately and consider other road users and local people. Stops for refreshments occur at the discretion of the leader and where suitable sites are available. Please wear clothing and footwear appropriate to the weather conditions and terrain. Dogs should be under control so as not to cause a nuisance to other walkers, general public and livestock. Dog faeces should be disposed of hygienically. All members are responsible for their own personal safety. We recommend that walkers carry a card showing details of any medication, allergies etc and a contact telephone number. The walk leader should be informed of any issues. But by the tender age of 28 he had experienced more than many of us see in the whole of our lives. He was born during the First World War at Lansdowne, Spilsby Road, Horncastle, the fourth child of six and the eldest son. His father was an auctioneer and land agent and came from a family of factors or land agents who had started in Perthshire. His great grandfather, George Bell, had secured the post of resident land agent on the Revesby Estate in 1842 bringing his family to Lincolnshire. His quick open mind fostered an interest in a wide variety of subjects including, centrally, agriculture. It was his perseverance that kept Horncastle cattle market going (perhaps beyond its natural life). -

OFFICIAL Lincolnshire’s Tidal Surge Response & Recovery ‘After Action’ Report The East Coast Tidal Surge of 5th December 2013 Lincolnshire Resilience Forum’s Response & Recovery ‘After Action’ Report 20th March 2014 1 OFFICIAL Lincolnshire’s Tidal Surge Response & Recovery ‘After Action’ Report Foreword On Thursday 5th December 2013 a deepening pressure system combined with high astronomical tides and strong to gale force ‘north westerly’ winds to generate a coastal surge along the whole of the east coast of England, the largest surge since the ‘great storm’ of 1953. Due to advances in surge forecasting, flood prediction and contingency planning at national, sub-national and local levels we were able to ‘get ahead’ of the storm. From Tuesday 3rd December partners began deploying one of the largest multi-agency emergency response and recovery operations ever conducted in Lincolnshire. This included the most significant evacuation operation in recent memory, the rescue of a number of people who became isolated by floodwaters, and work to ensure critical services were maintained and damaged infrastructure quickly repaired. Thankfully there were only 3 (relatively minor) casualties as a result of the surge, but more than 720 residential and commercial properties were inundated from the resultant overtopping and breach of defences. I would like to pass on my sympathy and support to those whose households and businesses flooded. We continue to work to support a full community recovery, and I commend the work of colleagues at Boston Borough Council who have led this work. In the circumstances this was a very good, forecast-led response and recovery effort. -
