It is the PFL opener for the Wildcats and first-year head coach Paul Nichols, who was the quarterback in Davidson’s first two PFL seasons (2001-02). The Eagles are two weeks removed from their PFL opening loss at Jacksonville and will seek to build on last season’s victory, their first against Davidson since 2008. Marist at Dayton, 1 p.m. Location: Dayton, Ohio (Welcome Stadium) Series: DAY leads, 4-0 Streak: DAY, four wins Notably: Marist and Dayton return to play after each team took Week 4 off. The Red Foxes will close out a stretch of three-straight road trips which includes a win at Georgetown in their last outing and was their first-ever road win against a Patriot League member. The Flyers entered their break with consecutive wins against Northeast Conference foes, including a win at Robert Morris in their last action. THE PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE A DIVISION I FCS CONFERENCE 2013 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE WEEKLY REPORT OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Steven Hughes, Jacksonville Sophomore | Quarterback | Melbourne, Fla. Making his first collegiate start, Hughes led Jacksonville to a 69-16 victory against Warner, Saturday. He completed 15-of-20 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns while playing just 35 minutes. On Jackson- ville’s first possession of the first half, Hughes threw two passes, the second a 58-yard touchdown strike to wideout Andy Jones. He would later add a 35-yard touchdown pass to D’Andre Randle that pushed the Dolphins lead to 24-0 in the first quarter. Hughes was 9-of-11 passing for 184 yards and two touchdowns in that first quarter. Payne earns his third PFL weekly defensive honor in the season’s first four weeks after an impressive perfor- mance in Stetson’s 49-34 loss to Birmingham-Southern, Saturday. His biggest play was a sack that forced a fumble that he scooped up for an eight-yard fumble recovery for a third-quarter touchdown that got Stetson within a point (the ensuing PAT was missed) of tying the game. Payne also intercepted a pass in the end zone to halt a scoring drive and end the first half. He finished the day with seven tackles (four solo), 1½ tackles for loss (1 sack), two fumbles forced, a fumble recovered, an interception and a pass breakup. Other Players Nominated: Brandon Coleman (DRA), Maroa White (JAC), Mike Gray (MER) SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK Dylan Lynch, Jacksonville Senior | Kicker/Punter | Jacksonville, Fla. Lynch posted his second consecutive 15-point outing in Jacksonville’s 69-16 victory against Warner, Satur- day. He was a perfect 9-for-9 on PATs for the second consecutive week and has made a Jacksonville record 27 consecutive PATs. Lynch also converted both of his field-goal attempts, including a 42-yard kick. Lynch averaged 28 yards on two punts, including one downed inside the 20-yard line. His nine kickoffs averaged 64.9 yards per kick with five touchbacks. The spotlight will shine on Jacksonville, Fla. where 2012 PFL co-champion Butler will face a Jacksonville squad that opened the PFL slate with a dominating win against Morehead State in Week 3. League new- comers Mercer and Stetson will begin their first PFL campaigns at home, but each will face a MEDIA SERVICES 2012 co-champion, Mercer hosting Drake while Stetson hosts San Diego.
