They are joined by post‐2014 second‐team stalwarts outfielder DJ Stewart (.351, 7 homers, 50 RBIs) of Florida State and starting pitchers Kyle Funkhouser (13‐3, 1.94 ERA) of Louisville, Atlantic Coast Conference 2014 Pitcher of the Year Nathan Kirby (9‐3, 2.06) of Virginia and 2014 Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Year Preston Morrison (9‐4, 1.32 ERA) of TCU on the first unit of the 2015 NCBWA elite squadron. JJ Sells Fellow Boosters - As I write this article, the All-Star game has concluded and the second half of the season is about to start and I thought before it did, I would reflect on what has happened in the first half. First and foremost, this team has played fantastic baseball for the most part. Cody Bellinger, Max Muncy and Alex Verdugo have been better than expected. Ryu has pitched out of his mind. Walker Buehler is proving that last year was no fluke. Turner, Taylor and Maeda have been solid and the bullpen, although the weakest part of the team, has held its own for the most part. Kershaw has re-invented himself as a pitcher and continues to pitch at an all- star level. All of this has been done without Corey Seager and AJ Pollack for most of the first half. But what does it all mean? Nothing. Because what happened in the first half doesn't get you to the finish line. You still have to perform in the second half.
