The No. 2 seed is 3-0 in matches (8-0 in sets, 48-20 in games) against Roberto Bautista Agut going into their match at 7 pm on Center Court. Also on the schedule are second-round matches featuring No. 6 seed Tomas Berdych and US Open champion No. 7 seed Marin Cilic. Still seeking a place in the second-round are No. 9 seed Milos Raonic, No. 15 seed Kevin Anderson, and former Top 10 players Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Fernando Verdasco, who meet each other in the second match on Stadium 3. Federer has captured six of the last 10 Cincinnati titles after winning just one match in his first four appearances at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. Federer is playing in his first tournament since reaching the Wimbledon final (l. to Djokovic) on July 12. This season, he has compiled a 40-7 match record (16-2 on hard). The Swiss has won four titles (Brisbane, Dubai, Istanbul, Halle), while reaching three other finals (Indian Wells, Rome, Wimbledon). Federer has 86 career titles and he’s won six or more titles at six different events. The 18-year-olds played once in singles on the ITF Junior Circuit, with Coric defeating Zverev 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 in the 2013 US Open semifinals. Coric went on to win the US Open title in the final tournament of his junior career, but he finished 2013 ranked No. 2 in the junior rankings behind Zverev. Now 38th and 85th respectively in the Emirates ATP Rankings, Coric (2014 Basel, 2015 Dubai) and Zverev (2014 Hamburg, 2015 Bastad) have each reached two ATP World Tour semi-finals. Coric is seeking his first win of the North American summer hard court circuit, while Zverev was a quarter-finalist in Washington and qualified for the Cincinnati main draw by beating No. 7 seed Benjamin Becker 6-4, 6-2 and No. 10 seed Denis Istomin 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Thanasi Kokkinakis, who won his first-round match in Cincinnati on Monday, is third with 11 victories. Here is a look at the teenagers with multiple match wins (ATP World Tour, Grand Slam only): W L Borna Coric 19 20 Alexander Zverev 13 12 Thanasi Kokkinakis 11 13 Hyeon Chung 7 7 Andrey Rublev 6 7 Nick Kyrgios+ 5 4 Elias Ymer 3 7 Jared Donaldson 3 4 Yoshihito Nishioka 2 3 + Turned 20 on April 27 (18-12 overall this season) TEENAGERS IN CINCINNATI: Coric and Zverev are two of four teenagers in the singles main draw. The others are: American Jared Donaldson (18), who led his rain-suspended 1R match 4-1 in the third set against Nicolas Mahut, and Aussie Thanasi Kokkinakis (19), who won his first- round match on Monday night over Fabio Fognini. The last time four teens played in Cincinnati was in 2006 with Andy Murray (19 years 2 months), Novak Djokovic (19 years 2 months), Gael Monfils (19 years 11 months), and Sam Querrey (18 years 10 months). Western & Southern Open Day 3 – Tuesday, August 18, 2015 Page 3 of 13 www.ATPWorldTour.com GASQUET vs. KYRGIOS… AGAIN: Nick Kyrgios has not been on the ATP World Tour for long, but he’s certainly seen his fair share of Richard Gasquet across the net. In fact, the 20-year-old Aussie has faced the 12th-seeded Gasquet more than any other player in the Top 100 of the Emirates ATP Rankings. Kyrgios and Gasquet are playing today for the fifth time in just over 18 months. Gasquet leads their FedEx Head 2 Head 3-1, avenging the loss of nine match points at Wimbledon in 2014 by beating Kyrgios en route to the Wimbledon semi-finals last month. The French veteran also denied Kyrgios his first ATP World Tour title in the Estoril final in May and defeated him during a first-round Davis Cup tie in 2014. ISNER, QUERREY MEET ON HOME SOIL: Good friends and frequent doubles partners John Isner and Sam Querrey will play one another for the fifth time on the ATP World Tour today. Querrey leads his FedEx Head 2 Head 3-1 against the 11th-seeded Isner, most recently upsetting his fellow American 7-6(3), 7-6(2) in the 2015 Memphis quarter-finals. However, the 2013 Cincinnati finalist Isner has been the better player this summer, posting an 11-2 record across the North American hard courts of Atlanta (W), Washington (F) and Montréal (QF). Querrey is 2-2 over the same stretch. Isner and Querrey have been partners far more often than they’ve been opponents, teaming for at least two doubles tournaments each season since 2008. The Americans are 53-39 lifetime, winning the ATP Masters 1000 title at Rome in 2011 and an ATP World Tour 500 title at Memphis in 2010. ISNER SUMMER SUCCESS: Isner, who reached the Cincinnati final two years ago (l. to Nadal), has won 11 of 13 matches on the ATP World Tour North American summer hard court circuit. It’s the fifth time in the last seven years that Isner has won at least 10 matches leading into the US Open. He has also won an ATP World Tour title each of the last five summers. The Australian Davis Cup Tennis Foundation News Produced for Members of the Foundation ABN 90 004 905 060 October 2015 Britain defeats Australia in Davis Cup Semi-Final Congratulations to the British Davis Cup team led by Andy Murray which defeated Australia 3-2 in a hard fought match in Glasgow from 17-19 September. Murray won both his singles and teamed with his brother John to edge out Groth and Hewitt in five sets in the crucial doubles rubber. Murray received fantastic support from the 8000 strong crowd which was also appreciative of Lleyton Hewitt playing in what was to be his final Davis Cup match. The Australian team showed great fighting spirit and camaraderie and, with the recall of Kyrgios, will be a force to be reckoned with in Davis Cup in the next few years. It is anticipated that Hewitt will take over from Masur as Captain in 2016. Page !1 Around the traps…… Put up your hand if someone has taken your seat! Australian Captain Wally Masur is giving Sam Groth a go as Captain during Kokkinakis’ dead rubber so that he can have a chat with mate Pat Cash. Sam did a good job as Kokkinakis had an impressive straight sets win. Australia v USA The next tie will be in Australia from 6-8 March 2016 against our old rivals, the USA. SPORTS INDIA AND WORLD World Cup Cricket History The idea of organising a World Cup of cricket was mooted and agreed to in principle in 1971 when such a proposal was discussed at a meeting of the International Cricket Conference in London. However, due to various commitments the tournaments could not be staged until 1975 when the original plan of a South African team's visit to England fell through following opposition to the country's racial policy. England's Prudential Assurance Company came forward with sponsorship and for three consecutive years - 1975, 1979 and 1983, the one-day limited overs cricket tournament was held in England. It became famous as the Prudential Cup. In the first two tournaments, apart from the six full members of the International Cricket Conference (England, Australia, West Indies, New Zealand, India and Pakistan), Sri Lanka, before being elevated to Test status in 1981, had joined East Africa in 1975 and Canada in 1979 (two top teams among the associate members) to complete the groups in the tournaments proper. The West Indies, under Clive Lloyd, not only won the first two tournaments in 1975 and 1979 but in true Calypso style they produced sparkling cricket and confirmed their unassailable supremacy in this game. India broke the West Indian stranglehold in 1983 to open a new chapter in the brief annals of this prestigious tournament.
