This comprises 3,030 males and 2,880 females. There is a greater proportion of the population aged over 50, and the ward has, relative to Kent, a smaller share of its population aged under 19. The large male population aged 20-29 is probably due to the presence of the Shorncliffe Army Camp within the ward. -8- Sandgate & West Folkestone Marital status There are 2,085 married couples in Sandgate & West Folkestone, which equates to 51% of the population; there are 959 single people, which is just over 20% of the adult population. Sandgate & West Folkestone is mostly in line with the county averages; however the ward has a slightly higher level of divorcees.
