Visit the St. Sofia church, one of the oldest churches in Europe, that is still operating. Visit the 4th century Church of St. George – the earliest and best reserved building in inner old Serdica, the Banya-Baschi mosque – a valuable monument of Islamic architecture, national theater house. Plovdiv – more ancient than Bulgaria itself. Its indelible marks are still to be seen today: the marble – tiled Forum, the Roman Stadium, the Ancient Theatre, rising above the Old Plovdiv is an original heritage park that lives on, an architectural phenomenon combining the splendour of stately homes with the modesty of cobblestone lanes. Every single house here has its own allure and fascination. The Ethnographic Museum, the art galleries, churches and street of folk arts and crafts are major landmarks of Old Plovdiv. Day/08.06.15: Sofia – Rila monastery - Sofia After breakfast departure for the Rila monastery. Guided tour in the most famous and fascinating Bulgarian monastery, founded in 10th century from the hermit monk John of Rila and taken to the UNESCO World heritage site in 1983. The active, man monastery will attract you with the main church ”The birth of Virgin Mary” with its golden iconostasis(altar wall) , the old Bulgarian architecture of the buildings and the wall paintings in national revival style. Visit the main church and the museum, where valuable old icons, church vessels and a marvelous altar cross, the cross of monk Rafail are kept. In the afternoon travel back to Sofia. Dinner. 6.Day/09.07.15: Sofia Breakfast. The other museums are situated in the beautiful quarter Boyana. The Boyana Church consists of three parts from three different periods. It is in the UNESCO List of World and Cultural Heritage. Visit the National historical Museum that includes subjects from different cultures, lived on the territory of the country. Visit the museum house of the famouse Bulgarian Bass Boris Hristov. Free afternoon. Early dinner.     Maria Shishmanova THE CENTRAL REGIONS AND THE SOFIA AGGLOMERATION AREA Abstract. The research presents central regions in Bulgaria using taxonometric method with relevant conclusions. Each municipality in central regions is particularly examined by the elaborated methodic materials. The developed agglomeration areas are situated in the central regions. Sofia agglomeration area is presented using General Spatial Plan of Sofia municipality and Municipal Development Plan (MDP) of Sofia metropolitan municipality. It is set out the vision of development and its priorities, objectives and measures. Key words: central regions, agglomeration areas, Sofia agglomeration area, General Spatial Plan, Municipal Development Plan. Introduction The Central regions comprise 45 percent of the Bulgarian territory. The agglomeration areas are formed in them. The present study examines the development of the Sofia agglomeration area – a metropolis in the central regions of Bulgaria. The agglomeration areas are formed within the range of the central regions in Bulgaria – 6 agglomeration areas with a center – a large city, 30 agglomeration areas with a center – a medium-sized town. Six of the agglomeration areas are formations with more than three municipalities, five of them are with three municipalities each, ten are with 2 municipalities and the rest 15 are autonomous municipalities with an established core. These areas represent the backbone of the economy and social and human potential of the country. They have the highest degree of competitiveness and attractiveness for investment and innovation. Eighty eight municipalities with a total population of 5885455 people1 are included within the scope of the agglomeration areas, which constitutes 77.4 percent of the population of the country.

The first known civilization in the region was that of the Thracians, whose culture reached a peak in the sixth century B.C. Because of disunity, in the ensuing centuries Thracian territory was occupied successively by the Greeks, Persians, Macedonians, and Romans. Northern Bulgaria averages 1 °C (1.8 °F) cooler than the regions south of the Balkan mountains. Temperature amplitudes vary significantly in different areas. The lowest recorded temperature is −38.3 °C (−36.9 °F), while the highest is 45.2 °C (113.4 °F). Situated at a crossroads between civilizations, Bulgaria has more than 13 centuries of recorded history and one of the richest cultural legacies in Europe. Modern Bulgarian culture derives from three ancient civilizations: the Bulgars, then Thracians, and the Slavs. The territory was also part of the Byzantine and Ottoman empires for several centuries.     UNDER STRICT EMBARGO: NOT FOR PUBLICATION BEFORE 00:01 GMT TUESDAY 8 SEPTEMBER 2020 Bulgarian Employers Share Subdued Hiring Intentions for the Fourth Quarter of 2020 According to ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey The outlook improves by 9 percentage points and stands at +1%; Strongest hiring pace forecast for the Restaurants & Hotels sector, and weakest – for the Other Services sector; Varna and Plovdiv employers the only ones who expect to grow payrolls in the next three months; 64% of employers plan to offer remote work and flexible working hours. Sofia, Bulgaria, September 8th, 2020 –ManpowerGroup released today the results of their Employment Outlook Survey for the final quarter of 2020. 426 employers in Bulgaria answered the question “How do you anticipate total employment at your location to change in the three months to the end of December 2020 as compared to the current quarter?” and reported an Outlook of +1% once seasonal variations are removed from the data. Hiring plans improve by 9 percentage points when compared with the previous quarter, but decline by 8 percentage points in comparison with the same period last year. Of all the employers surveyed, 6% expect to increase payrolls, 8% forecast a decrease, 79% anticipate no change and 7% are unsure of their hiring plans for the October-December period. However, they are more optimistic about the speed of return to normal compared to the previous quarter: 21% of them (against 13% in June) expect to get back to pre-COVID-19 hiring levels within the next 12 months. When asked about existing members of the workforce that have been placed on a job retention or furlough scheme, 16% of companies suggest they plan to bring them back full-time and 1% indicate these employees will be let go.
