The Magazine for Alumni and Friends of Campbellsville University a Word from the President… VOL. 4, NO. 1 JUNE 2007 The Magazine for Alumni and Friends of Campbellsville University A word from the president… JUNE 2007 Dear alumni and friends, Our journey of faith brings us to this beautiful spring 2007 with the Ransdell Chapel completed and enrollment having just reached a record number for the 14th consecutive semester. The Centennial Gala was a grand finish to a year devoted to celebrating a century of success and beginning the next century of service through Christian higher education. For all who have sacrificed to see Campbellsville University reach her 100th year, I would hope that we would have thankful hearts for their dedicated service. We are Dr. Michael V. Carter living in a time of miracles as demonstrated by the response to our Centennial campaign -- transforming a new generation through a journey of faith. To each of you, know that your investment is changing lives daily on our campus and beyond. “I think you Campbellsville University’s Ransdell Chapel will serve as a place of worship, education and celebration for many generations to come. Completion of the chapel is such a significant milestone. Specifically, this study attempts to establish a logical expansion and adaptation of Bale’s Four-Stage Ideal-type on the Evolution of the Modern English Soccer Stadium appropriate for the history of professional baseball and football and that predicts future changes in American sport facilities. In essence, it is the author’s intention to provide a more coherent and comprehensive account of the evolving professional baseball and football sport facility and where it appears to be headed. This investigation concludes eight stages exist concerning the evolution of the professional baseball and football sport facility. Stages one through four primarily appeared before the beginning of the 20th century and existed as temporary structures which were small and cheaply built. Stages five and six materialize as the first permanent professional baseball and football facilities. Stage seven surfaces as a multi-purpose facility which attempted to accommodate both professional football and baseball equally.

    Cleveland POPS brings in the New Year with Melinda Doolittle at Severance Hall (Dec. 31) by Mario Buchanan, Special to ClevelandClassical.com ​ On December 31 the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, under the direction of Carl Topilow, performed their annual New Year’s Eve concert at Severance Hall. Above the partygoers’ heads in the Grand Foyer were two nets filled with blue and white balloons waiting to welcome the new year, and attendees were required to grab a party horn from the table for the concert. In the auditorium, “2017” was spelled out with balloons above the stage. Clearly, this was going to be a night to remember. As Topilow came on stage, the lights dimmed and all that could be seen were stand lights and the first three digits of ‘2017’ lit up. The concert started with two famous “crowd-warming” tunes: the opening of Richard Strauss’ Thus Sprach Zarathustra, ​ ​ which segued into “O Fortuna” from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana — a rather interesting ​ ​ way to start the evening. Then Melinda Doolittle, the guest vocalist for the occasion, greeted the audience, wearing a gorgeous, elegant dress and immediately stunning the crowd with her beautiful, wide-ranging voice. By her own admission, Doolittle was tone deaf as a child, but determined to prove herself, she eventually earned a bachelor’s in music. She became famous while competing on American Idol, where Simon Cowell called her his ​ ​ “personal favorite.” Since then, Doolittle has performed all over the nation. The vocalist described her song selections as being like her personality: “romance and sass.” She sang some old, romantic classics, including Don’t Get Around Much ​ Anymore, Home from “The Wiz”, and Over the Rainbow.
