Mustafa against leaders Super Rangers, preparing for the contest by finally being presented with last Zahid of Sky season’s trophy shortly before the match. Led by Arif Ahmed, Millwall went out firing on all hitting his cylinders. Shakeel Ahmed blasted another superb 50 alongside Shumon Miah, who hit a second fifty of the patient 47. With some last-minute hitting from Salman (20), Millwall finished on 167-6. Super season Rangers in reply lost Saif Khan early and promptly collapsed, with Jamil Ahmed taking two wickets in succession, alongside three run-outs. Rangers were bowled out for just 60, handing Millwall a 107-run win. Just three points now separate the two sides. Both have still to play Old Fallopians 1sts, meaning one of the league’s longest-serving clubs will help decide who wins Super Rangers the title. skipper Altaf Bhat Broadway saw off a tense match against Jamal Ali’s Masiha on pitch 2. Masiha, missing in-form opener and keeper Stuart Miller, won the toss and opting to bat. Despite losing several early wickets, Masiha finished with a solid total of 146, featuring an unbeaten 39 from Gus MacKay alongside 17 from Adnan Ali. Will Jack led the respose for Broadway with a blitzing half century. The New Zealander shared a match-winning stand with Cam Roberts (38) and finished unbeaten on 54, as Broadway edged to 147-6 with four balls remaining.

Mad Marrocas enjoyed a tense victory over Regents, despite Regents’ opener Daniel Ormsby again demonstrating his riveting form to smash a superb 55. Regents finished on 141-4, Ormsby sharing a stand of 89 with David Campbell, who weighed in with a confident 41. The Maroccas lost early wickets in their reply but Charlie Cox (51) held his nerve and his side completed their victory with five balls remaining.

Heavy showers washed out all Tuesday’s matches without a ball being bowled, including a crunch Division Two contest between Sky and Homerton.

Wednesday saw Victoria Lounge return to second place in Division Two with victory over Bansko Bears in a low-scoring match on pitch 1. The Bears hit 110-3, with Tom Curtis (43) and Ollie Meikle (27) top scoring, as Bansko struggled to find the boundaries against solid bowling from the Lounge. In reply, Lounge skipper Jim Crutcher hit a patient 50. Despite losing James Neal for 14, Stefan Phillipson’s hefty match-winning six in a score of 23 propelled the Lounge to victory, with two overs to spare. A win next week against Expats in their final game will guarantee Victoria Lounge a place in Division One next season.

The week also saw the start of the third round of the Victoria Park league’s Cup. Old Fallopians Old Fallopians 1sts Olly 1sts kicked off their campaign with a victory over Mile Tailenders on Wednesday. Opting to bat Wrighton on his way to 50 first, the Fallopians recovered from an early wicket after scoring just four runs to build a dominant Rose & Crown’s Joe Fisher target, with knocks from Mohammed Junaid (56) and Ollie Wrighton (50) as they smashed their way to a daunting 190-5. In-form Felix Cofie (50) led the chase for the Tailenders with Wilson Digby (31) and Rich Carrington (19) all looking in fine fettle. However, Fallopians’ Moazam Sultan (2-34) and Sahameer Qureshi (2-33) tore through the middle order as the Tailenders fell 44 runs short, finishing on 151-5.

Defending Cup champions London Tigers squared up against London Fields on Thursday. Despite losing two wickets in the opening over for only four runs, the Tigers fought back, led by a superb attacking 65 from Jamil Ahmed and Rinku Hussain (42), as they finished all out on 144. In Mile Tailenders’ Sanj response, Vidal Bharath (35), Rob Friend (33) and Oli Turner (22) kept the Fields in with a chance, Gunewardene but solid bowling from the Tigers restricted them to 131-6, some 23 runs short. The result means a quarter-final date for the Tigers against Old Fallopians 1sts.

Division Three’s runway leaders Wapping Dolphins lost their first game this season in a tense Cup match against Victoria Lounge. The Lounge, playing a second game in successive days, edged into the third round in a narrow victory thanks to some solid bowling. They were led from the front by openers Jim Crutcher (50) and Tom Stevens (50) to finished on 150-3. Stefan Phillipson (32) hit two late sixes to hand Wapping a tricky chase on the wide boundaries of pitch 3. In reply, Wapping disasterously slipped to 15-3, with the Lounge’s Rhys Edwards taking two wickets in his opening over, removing the dangerous Chris Monger and the previously unbeaten Dudley Spiers. However, just like a certain Steve Smith in a test match on the same day, a superb batting display from the explosive Richard Ripper and support from the lower order pulled Wapping back into the match. Ripper hit an beautiful 54, aided by Dom Oliver (27) and Bobby Watson (24), leaving Wapping needing eleven off the final over. Thoughts about the possibility of a deciding ‘super over’ were in the air as the final over commenced. A wide was followed by a boundary and then Ripper returned to the crease, only to be bowled by Chris Stevens with two balls remaining, leaving Wapping all out and seven short on 153. The Lounge will now face either Royal Strikers or non-league side I don’t Like Cricket, who play each other next week.
