WBC AND RING MAGAZINE LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION BERNARD "THE EXECUTIONER" HOPKINS AND FORMER WORLD CHAMPION "BAD" CHAD DAWSON TO MEET SATURDAY, APRIL 28 AT BOARDWALK HALL IN ATLANTIC CITY TO DETERMINE WHO IS CHAMPION "ONCE AND FOR ALL" HBO World Championship Boxing® To Televise The Light Heavyweight Showdown New York City, February 22 - The oldest fighter in boxing history to win a world title, Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins, and former World Champion "Bad" Chad Dawson will meet again to settle their heated feud following their October 2011 bout, which was originally scored as a TKO win for Dawson, but later ruled a no decision by the California State Athletic Commission. The two are ready to resume their high-stakes rivalryon Saturday, April 28 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The 12 round bout for Hopkins' WBC and Ring Magazine light heavyweight world championships will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET/7:15 p.m. PT. "Chad Dawson can say whatever he wants, but I am not going to trash talk this one," said Hopkins. "Everyone knows what I am capable of in the ring. They have seen it over 50 times before in the last 20 plus years. I will say that I am really happy that this is on HBO so that all of my fans from across the country can see me continue this unprecedented path. I absolutely want to prove that I can beat Chad Dawson, another guy that is almost two decades younger than me and I am confident I will on April 28." "The first fight did not go as planned, but I'm confident I was going to win that night," said Dawson.

  • Dawson Confident the Best Is Yet to Come
Dawson confident the best is yet to come PROVIDENCE, R.I. (June 17th, 2019) — There are many reasons why some professional fighters hang on longer than most people think they should. Some need the money. Others miss the limelight. Chad Dawson is simply motivated by the thrill of victory and an opportunity to reclaim his throne atop the light heavyweight division. “If I didn’t think I had anything left, I wouldn’t be doing it right now,” said the former two-time world champion, who returns to the ring Saturday, June 29th, 2019 at Foxwoods Resort Casino after two and a half years away from the sport. “I want to get back in the spotlight, back into contention and back into the ring with the guys who are at the top now.” Dawson (34-5, 19 KOs), who turns 37 in July, faces North Carolina vet Quinton Rankin (15-5-2, 12 KOs) in the eight- round main event of CES Boxing’s pro-am spectacular at the historic Fox Theater. The event streams live on Facebook via FIGHTNIGHT LIVE and also includes a 10-round featherweight co- feature bout between fellow New Haven boxer Tramaine Williams(17-0, 6 KOs) and Filipino Neil John Tabanao (17-5, 11 KOs). Limited tickets are available at $47, $77 and $157 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesboxing.com or www.foxwoods.com, by phone at 401-724-2253 or 800-200-2882 or at the Fox Theater Box Office. All fights and fighters subject to change. Dawson is not the first — and he certainly won’t be the last — fighter to return to the sport following a long layoff or retirement.

  • International Boxing Research Organization, Had Perhaps Its Stron- Gest Showing Ever at Canastota
boxing by don cogswell This year’s trip to Canas- tota, my third, for the Hall of Fame inductions weekend, continued to add texture and depth in experiencing one of boxing’s principal convergences. The dazzle of being immersed in so many of boxing’s notables does fade but the rewards of repeated visits with friends and associates deepen to center stage. Doing a little business also helps. The Random House Dictionary, unabridged, second edition, defines appetizer as “any small portion that stimulates a desire for more or that indicates more is to follow.” An opportunity to meet fifties contender Rocky Jones, courtesy of former Chester heavyweight Jack Mer- cadante and Philly historian Chuck Hasson, was up to scratch in meeting that definition. (I had flown into Philadelphia from the West Coast, planning on driving north with these two notables, to Canastota.) Rocky lives in a primarily African American neighborhood that was once predominately Italian American. The house Jack Mercadante grew up in is a stone’s throw from Rocky’s. Throughout our hour visit on his stoop, passerby’s continuously asked Rocky if everything was all right. I felt privileged with his repeated mantra that everything was just fine. (Jones lives a short drive from Leiperville, where we passed, in homage, the site of Baron Dougherty’s Colonial Hotel.) Among the many comments of Rock’s experiences, both in the ring and the gyms, the two bouts with Roland LaStarza loomed large. Rocky, essentially a lightheavy, fought heavyweights throughout his career. LaStarza was in line for a title shot, and a big favorite when he fought Jones, but was upset over 10.

  • "Once and for All: Hopkins Vs. Dawson" Media Roundtable Quotes
"ONCE AND FOR ALL: HOPKINS VS. DAWSON" MEDIA ROUNDTABLE QUOTES Bernard Hopkins, WBC & Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight World Champion "I'm a throw back. I live in a time where it is so microwavable that there is no time to cook, season, chop or marinate any more. I'm the last of a dying [expletive] breed. "They were calling me old when I beat Trinidad 11 years ago. "Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will always motivate me. "I have proven who I am. The reason I'm here is because Dawson didn't do what he should have against Pascal. "My biggest motivation has been adversity. "I don't drink or smoke and if some is drinking or smoking around me I get up. It's called discipline. "This fight all you hear is 'Chad is bigger. Chad is stronger.' Not that he is more talented." Chad Dawson, Former Light Heavyweight World Champion "It all depends on how Bernard comes in the ring. If he comes to fight, that is great. If he comes to lie down like he did last time, then I feel sorry for the people that bought tickets or are going to watch on HBO. "The first fight wasn't a long fight, but in the two rounds that it was, I was the one trying to press the fight. I was trying to make the action. "Bernard just backed up the whole time and didn't try to make the fight. I think people saw the difference between the size and the strength.
