PRE-FEASIBILTY REPORT 1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: ULAHANNAN is proposing a (Building Stone) Quarry with lease at Re-Survey No. 57/16, 57/1270, 57/1069 & 57/1273 of Valad Village, Mananthavady Taluk, Wayanad District, Kerala for an area of 4.2689 hectares. Letter of intent for said granite quarry (ULAHANNAN) is issued vide Letter No. 1833/M3/2018 dated 21.03.2018 of Directorate of Mining & Geology, Thiruvananthapuram. A copy of the Letter is enclosed as Annexure –1 (Mining Plan). The location of the quarry is shown on the Key plan and Route Map are enclosed vide Plate No – 1A & 1B (Mining Plan). The approved lease sketch is enclosed vide Plate No –1C (Mining Plan). Nearest Railway Station Thalassery Railway Station 60km Nearest Airport Calicut International Airport 140 km Latitude (N) 11°48'9.01"N to 11°48'16.19"N Longitude (E) 75°54'10.80"E to 75°54'18.94"E Accessibility: This granite building stone quarry is located at Valad Village in Mananthavady Taluk, which is located at about 26 km North of Wayanad District. The quarry can be reached via Valad-Edathanna road. The location of this mining area is shown on the key plan enclosed Vide Plate No - 1A (Mining Plan) and Environmental Plan vide Plate No. 7 (Mining Plan). Topography: The lease is located on the slope of the hillock gently dipping towards North. The highest elevation in this area is 840mRL and the lowest elevation is 760mRL. Main rock type in the study area is charnockite. At places where they are exposed, the charnockite is medium to coarse grained with dark grey quartz. The soil & over burden thickness varies from average 1.4m to 0.8topographically, the area is undulating. A geological plan showing the granites and soil cover and the geological sections showing subsurface geology is prepared on 1:1500 scale. Brief description of nature of the project The Granite Building Stone Quarry of ULAHANNAN Stone Crushers, over an extent of 4.2689 Ha is a granite building stone mining project. The granite building stone is the basic rock in this area to be excavated by quarrying. This Granite Building Stone quarry is proposed to be operated by Opencast Semi-Mechanized Quarrying Method. The mechanized operation of quarry shall use excavators, tippers, rock breakers, Jack hammer drilling and blasting. The excavated material shall be crushed in the crushers located outside the quarry lease area. The maximum production capacity proposed in this area is 1,00,000 tonnes per annum building stone of size -150mm. The quarrying operation shall provide 15 direct & equal number of indirect employment to local people. III. Need for the project and its importance to the country and or region. 26 Granite (Building Stone) Quarry owned by Ulahannan at Valad Village, Mananthavady Taluk & Wayanad District, Kerala. The basic objective of the project is to have effective utilization of granite stone as a building material in this region and state. The spur in infrastructure development and construction industry has enhanced the demand of granite building stone in past few years. Mainly infrastructure projects – like roads, highways, railways, bridges, buildings, township, Port Development, etc., have raised the demand of building material. Building stone quarry not only provides the building material but also employment and economic growth of the region that ultimately enhance the socio-economic status of the people of the region and the state. The mining activities shall provide socio-economic benefits to the local population with direct & indirect employment opportunities. The project also contributes to the regional and financial benefits in the form of Royalty, Cess, Taxes, DMF etc. IV. Demand-Supply Gap. Granite Building stone is an important component of the construction activities for infrastructure development. The demand for granite building stone is increasing along with the increase in infrastructure and construction activities in Kerala. This quarry can produce max 1,00,000 tonnes of building stone annually and the demand of building stone by various industries can be partly fulfilled by this project.

In this ritual, women and young girls carry thalam in Thalappoli their hands which is filled with rice, flowers and a lighted Guruzi lamp and are accompanied by percussion music. This event is conducted to appease the deity and to bring prosperity to the entire community and the region.

However its coverage has been limited. It has covered only a small portion of the poor children in several states. The total coverage has been about 13 million children in the country in 1978. This has increased to 17 million by the end of 1983. Further there has been no uniformity in organization of school lunch in most of the states. In some states the programme has been limited to certain districts. The school lunch programme has been initiated in Kerala in 1941. The operation of this scheme has spread to all schools by the year 1961-62. Under the scheme, rice or wheat kanji has been given to the children at noon. The present school lunch programme is called Midday Meal Programme (MDM) launched by the Government of India in all states. Under this programme, the entire cost of food grains supplied by the FCI, the cost of transportation of food grains from the godowns of FCI to the schools and the expenditure involved in management, monitoring and evaluation of the scheme are borne by government of India.
