Why so many, you might ask? The Mar/Apr ‘19 answer is quite simple. They bloom their hearts out for you, and the superbells is among the best. While i am touting lemon slice, and deservedly so, know that superbells Grape Punch and superbells Cherry star will also have you drooling. They all will need plenty of sun to bloom to their potential. Even greater importance is that you must provide good drainage. This is the place to not skimp on potting soil. Wet feet spells doom for this little workhorse. lastly, if you buy a ready-made basket, make sure it drains, too. This is not a problem with coconut coir-lined baskets, but the plas- tic versions sometimes get clogged. since the superbells calibrachoa is such a prolific bloomer, it is counting on you to keep it fed. During the warm growing season, containers are watered on a regular daily regimen, thereby leaching out the nutrients. i like to use a dilute of water soluble 20-20-20 at least once a week. By dilute, i mean about 1 tablespoon per gallon of water. spring is here and the superbells calibrachoas represent some of the best buys for your gardening dollar. Owners have been in the process of remodeling what was once the old food court, creating an event center available for rental for weddings, birthdays and other special events. The project is only a month or two from completion. “That project goes back to the community,” said the owner. “Yes, you are going to have people from all over the country coming in and shopping and having fun, but the community can use this.” Liberty Crossing has brought opportunities for local business owners as well, who have taken advantage of the opportunity to take part in the monthly market event. “What is neat is our community and surrounding communities in the county, a lot of those vendors are present in the facility once a month, renting booth spaces. They have decided to use this once a month and have I-35 frontage for three days,” said Schmitz. “They’re taking the chance to showcase their stores in a way they wouldn’t be able to normally do in the states of Oklahoma and Texas.” Businesses continue to benefit as hotels and local bed-and- breakfast establishments fill up each event weekend and restaurants see lines from visitors who travel to take part in Market Days. Schmitz himself enjoys his weekends at Liberty Crossing with visits from friends and their families. “I’m there every weekend, either visiting with my friends. They like to come up there on Friday afternoon and come to the beer garden. It is really a neat social event. A group of ladies that had a bunch of friends from high school around Thanksgiving came and just hung out and shopped while their husbands were hanging out at the beer garden, seeing people they haven’t seen in 15-20 years,” said Schmitz. There is plenty to do in the Gainesville area while visiting, making it a great place to take a weekend trip. WinStar Casino sits just five miles from Liberty Crossing, offering a fun night, concerts and a hotel. Visit the “best little zoo in Texas,” Frank Buck Zoo located at Leonard Park, or enjoy a day of golf at the Gainesville Municipal Golf Course. Keeping this in mind will not only increase the market value of the home, but when done correctly, will make your home a rarity in a world of faux finishes and compressed wood materials. One of my favorite ways to add a touch of modern to an older home is by adding or changing the front porch posts. Cedar is very much in style and will add a bit of warmth to brick or rock exteriors. “A STORY TO TELL” This door caught my eye one day as I was driving through Bridgeport. Old doors make me think about all of the people that have walked through them over the years. What were their stories? What brought them through that door on that day? Now, as you can see, the door hasn’t been opened in some time and nature has started to take over creating a wonderful contrast between the weathered wood and the vibrant green of the ivy.
