Gingras, leaving from the rail, sent Limelight Beach to the front, and the rest of the field fell in line in numerical order.

Yannick Gingras and Ron Burke celebrate their first ever Jug win (Lucas Marquardt)

"It's unbelievable," said Gingras. "It's one of the five or six races you dream of winning. It feels awesome." Gingras, easily the sport’s hottest driver, won six races on the 23-race card, and appears to dislodge perennial leader Tim Tetrick at year’s end in the money-won category. Gingras's best hope at the Jug seemed to fade before his eyes when Lyonssomewhere, the 3-5 choice off his Cane Pace victory, broke stride at the top of the stretch in the first elim after leading most of the way. More On The Way!

Last year, horses bred, raised and sold as yearlings by Brittany Farms won two of the four Dan Patch Awards for 2-year- olds, with Father Patrick voted “2-Year-Old Trotting Colt of the Year” and He’s Watching “2-Year-Old Pacing Colt of the Year.”

This year, there is a strong possibility that Brittany-breds could win four of the eight Dan Patch Awards for 2 and 3-year-olds. Father Patrick and He’s Watching have a good chance at being repeat winners as 3-year-olds, while Lifetime Pursuit could be voted “3-Year- Old Trotting Filly of the Year” and Artspeak “2-Year-Old Pacing Colt of the Year.”

Father Patrick, He’s Watching and Artspeak were all sold as yearlings by Brittany, while Lifetime Pursuit was retained to race and then join Brittany’s broodmare band.

The bottom line is this. If you’re shopping for yearlings—at any price level—that have the potential to become champions, there’s no better place to look than in the Brittany Farms shedrow at the upcoming Lexington Selected Sale. More are on the way!

Sumatra Smooth, Bold in Oaken Bucket By Lucas Marquardt DELAWARE, OH - It's largely been a case of Murphy's Law for Sumatra (Muscle Yankee) this year. That is, what could go wrong has. A combination of wide trips, untimely breaks--and, in the case of a division of Tompkins Geers at Tioga Downs two back Aug. 17, a disqualification from first to second--left the 3-year-old gelding with just one win in 11 starts this season. The Tom Fanning-trained Sumatra turned it all around yesterday, however, upsetting the $118,300 Old Oaken Bucket for sophomore trotting colts. Truth be told, not all went Brian Sears picked up the win perfect yesterday, either. in the Old Oaken Bucket with Dismissed at 19-1, Sumatra Sumatra (Lucas Marquardt) and driver Brian Sears were unable to secure a rail spot and trotted the first half-mile while two wide. Sumatra was still wide down the backstretch before finally clearing a quarter mile out, but was able to keep finding more to fend off a wall of challengers to his outside. The odds-on favorite Datsyuk (Explosive Matter), who sprang his own upset when denying Father Patrick at 25-1 in another division of Tompkins Geers, finished another half-length back in second. Il Sogno Dream (Cantab Hall) trotted well from post 10 to complete the trifecta. The final time was 1:56.1. "My horse doesn't have the handiest speed in the world, but he's honest and he'll try real hard," Sears said. "I didn't put any pressure on him, I just kind of let him roll on. He's not real quick, but he keeps going, doesn't get tired. He showed it today." In his only other win of the season, Sumatra made all with Sears in the bike to take the Dexter Final at Freehold May 3 by 2 1/4 lengths.

Classic Martine Wins Ms. Versatility By Lucas Marquardt DELAWARE, OH - Trainer Chris Oakes Classic Martine (Classic Photo) threw in a clunker when sixth to Bee a Magician (Kadabra) in last week's Thursday feature at Harrah's Philadelphia, but she was back on her game yesterday at Delaware to defeat a field of classy distaffers in the $39,746 Ms. Versatility Final. Once again facing Bee a Magician--the public's 6-5 choice--as well as horses of the ilk of Maven (Glidemaster), Classic Martine took advantage of her rail draw and cut out a first quarter in :27.3 as Maven tucked in behind her. The 9-5 second choice slowed things down through a pedestrian half of :57, putting Bee a Magician, in fourth along the outside, at a tactical disadvantage. That foe looked a threat (continued on next page) HarnessRacingUpdate.com • 9/19/14 PAGE 4 of 11 at the top of the lane, but flattened late as Classic Martine was able to find the wire in time over a flying Charmed Life (Majestic Son) and a rail-skimming Maven. The final time was 1:57.1. "She's a really good filly, and I'm blessed to have her," said Oakes. "She didn't race all that great last week, but we figured it out quickly, which is important in this sport. She showed up today, and showed she's a champion. Last week she got stuck outside and Tim had to choke her off a little. We scoped her after and get everything taken care of. She's fine, and raced good today." Up until that point in the card, it wasn't clear speed was holding the way it typically does at Delaware. Nonetheless, Oakes said he and Tetrick didn't discuss tactics before the race. "I thought we were the best horse in the race, and Tim's a great driver," he said. "I just let him do his job. That's where he wanted to be, and she came through for us." Asked about immediate plans, Oakes commented, "I'm not sure right now. Our goal is to win the at the Meadowlands. Hopefully she stays healthy."

Jug and Jugette Day, At a Glance I was glued - like I usually am - to the Jug and Jugette cards. Here are some random, general, and hopefully interesting, thoughts... There were a lot of interesting dynamics in the Jug eliminations. The supplementer, Lyonssomewhere, inexplicably broke in his heat, giving the win to 21-year-old Tyler Smith with Let's Drink on It. In the second heat - this year run later than previous years - had McWicked getting nice fractions but coming up a little flat.
