This study was carried out by a group of students undertaking a training course in Participatory Appraisal organised by the Scottish Community Diet Project and run by Vikki Hilton. Participatory Appraisal is an approach that enables people to share their ideas and knowledge about life and local concerns. Using a range of visual tools the group engaged with a wide range of people in Wallyford over a period of 2 days to determine what is important to them about local food access. On their final evening their findings were put up on display in the local community centre. 3 Community Planning. Wallyford is about to almost double in size from a village to a small town within the next 10 years. Community planning is currently trying to ascertain which type of retail outlets / and locations will best meet the needs of the expanding community. (Integration of new and old communities is also an issue) Some of the questions they raised at our meeting included: Questions 1) Where do you shop at the moment? 2) How do you get there? 3) What food would you expect to buy in the ‘new small town’ of Wallyford? 4) Would you expect to do all your food shopping in the ‘future’ Wallyford? 5) In the proposed central area, should it be: ??Pedestrian area only.

  • The Rail User Express. We Continue with the Usual Roundup of News
June 2019 Welcome to the Rail User Express. RUX is published around the middle of each month. It may be forwarded, or items reproduced in another newsletter (quoting sources). Anyone may request RUX as an email attachment, or opt to be notified when it is posted on the Railfuture (Rf) website. There is no charge for either service. Following GDPR, Railfuture Membership now maintains both lists. Please advise if you no longer wish to receive the newsletter or link, or if you know of anyone who would like to be added. For further details of any of the stories mentioned, please consult the relevant website, or ask the editor for the source material. Whisper it quietly, but the introduction of the May 2019 timetable seems to have gone quite well. There are still some anomalies touched on below, but the deafening silence from the media tells its own story. The few cancellations due to crew shortage are likely the result of intensive training programmes, as drivers convert to new stock coming into service. Well done! Roger Smith We continue with the usual roundup of news items from groups around the UK. Please keep your contributions coming: they are all gratefully received. Friends of the Far North Line The last few weeks have seen a very variable service on the Far North Line. Driver shortage is still an issue, but ScotRail is recruiting and intends to stop relying on Rest Day Working for staffing the normal rosters, so things should improve. It also seems difficult to retain catering staff; there have been many occasions when passengers have boarded a train for a four-hour journey only to discover there's no trolley service.

  • How Will the Transition of Musselburgh Grammar Pupils
Musselburgh Consultation: Frequently Asked Questions (version 8.0) Q 1 - How will the transition of Musselburgh Grammar Pupils to the new school be managed? If the proposals are accepted, a Transitional Leadership Team would be established to address the variety of issues that a successful transition would require to be resolved. The Parent Councils would also be consulted before and during the transition process as their input would also be essential. The Education authority would adopt best practise regarding supporting transition, through consultation with other local authorities who have undertaken similar pupil transitions. Q 2 - How will my children be affected? Please refer to the transition document on the Consultation Hub titled “Affected Pupil Year Groups Diagram”. In more detail: i) Pupils who live in the catchments of Whitecraig, Campie, Stoneyhill and Musselburgh Burgh: There would be no change to their current secondary S1-S6 education provision. They would attend Musselburgh Grammar for the entirety of their secondary education until they leave school. ii) Pupils who live in the Pinkie St Peters and Wallyford catchment areas: Pupils in stages S4, S5 and S6 at the effective start date of the new secondary school (August 2020 or as soon as thereafter), will remain at Musselburgh Grammar for the remainder of their Senior Phase until they leave secondary education. Pupils who start in S1, S2 and S3 at the effective start date of the new secondary school (August 2020 or as soon as thereafter), will transition to the new secondary school and form the first S1, S2 and S3 intake at the new school.
