The site at Oakwood Grange/Mabey Depot, Robinettes Lane, Cossall should be included for housing because: (i) It is a brownfield site consistent with Government Policy. (ii) It would improve the living environment of adjoining residents. (iii) It would accord with the aims and objectives of the plan for housing. (iv) It would improve the local environment. (v) It would reduce HGV use of narrow roads through Cossall. Council’s Response: 2. Site Details Site area: 5.5 hectares (13.5 acres) Location: The site is situated approximately 300m east of Cossall village, a rural village clustered around a narrow road. It also lies adjacent to the Cossall Conservation area (see attached map for location). The site was originally part of Cossall colliery which closed in the 1950s. Current use: An enclave of development occupying industrial uses, some residential and open land (part used for dumping manure). The site is part greenfield, part previously developed land. Ecological value: No designated wildlife sites exist on the site although part of the site is in a Mature Landscape Area. However it is proposed that this part is deleted from the MLA designation in this Local Plan Review. Green Belt: The site is situated in the Green Belt and isolated from any built-up area. Public transport: There are no frequent bus services within walking distance, or 400m. -

January 21, 2019 27 Nottingham City Schools Receive Award For
January 21, 2019 27 Nottingham City Schools receive award for commitment to music Nottingham City Schools were lauded for their commitment and collaboration with Nottingham’s music hub to provide their pupils with life-changing music opportunities. Nottingham Music Service (NMS), a registered charity that provides music programmes for young people in the city, introduced the ‘Music Hub Champion’ award to recognise schools that have gone the extra mile to promote inclusive music education and support their pupils to benefit from the many music making opportunities provided by NMS. These schools have extraordinary staff members that support, encourage and inspire their children to continue learning their instruments and participate in out-of- school groups and events. The awards were announced at NMS’s Christmas in the City event on Dec 12, 2018 at the Royal Concert Hall in front of an audience of 1,800+ people. Lord Mayor of Nottingham Councillor Liaqat Ali presented a certificate to representatives of the Champion schools. NMS Business, Operations & Strategy Manager Michael Aspinall says: “We wanted to publicly acknowledge those school that are going the extra mile to provide music educational opportunities for their pupils. I thought it may be interesting for newcomers to the Society to see articles published in the early newsletters and for the “old timers” of the Society to take a trip down memory lane. Below is the first newsletter from March 1969 and I thought it worthwhile to publish it in its entirety. As we proceed I shall extract articles from other newsletters for re-printing. THE ILKESTON & DISTRICT LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY’S NEWS-LETTER No.1 March 1969 At the close of this the Society’s third winter season of lecture meetings it has been decided that a monthly newsletter should be instituted to keep members in closer touch with the activities of the Society and to offer a forum for the discussion and exchange of views and information. Members are invited to support it by sending any comments and contributions to the editor, whose address appears at the foot of page 2. Report- Snowbound as we were on Thursday 20 February, Mr. Alan McCormick was unable to speak to the Society about his work as Assistant Curator of the Nottingham Castle Museum as arranged. Instead a small but dedicated audience heard Malcolm Burrows introduce the series of booklets produced by the Standing Conference for Local History, publishers of the quarterly Local Historian (previously The Amateur Historian) at 15s per annum or 3/6d each issue. -

Volume 4: Spring Walks
1 Introduction Welcome to our fourth volume of ‘100 Walks from the Poppy and Pint’. This volume contains Spring Walks for you to enjoy now that the lockdown has eased. I hope that you find it useful. You will find 49 walks in this volume bringing the total number of walks in the series to 150! This volume is quite different to the other volumes. These walks have been specially selected from a wider radius of Lady Bay. This gives us more choice, more variety, and the chance to showcase different areas. Most of the walks start within 30 minutes’ drive from the Poppy and Pint and most are relatively short walks of around two to three hours. All have been chosen because they hold one or more points of interest. Moreover, the paths are quiet, they are varied, and all are on good, waymarked paths. This makes them ideal spring walks just after the lockdown. Being out on the trail in the open air anywhere lifts the spirits, is good for the soul, and gives our lives a different perspective. I think we always feel better when we come back from a walk! Do try it and see! This is the fourth volume of walks to complement Volumes One, Two and Three. Unfortunately, it is not possible to put these four volumes into one tome as the subsequent size of the file would be too big to e mail! When I set myself the challenge of researching and creating 100 local walks, I never actually thought it was possible. -

MINUTES OF THE VIRTUAL MEETING OF COSSALL PARISH COUNCIL HELD ON TUESDAY 21 APRIL 2020 This meeting is an historic event for Cossall Parish Council, as it is the first ever Virtual Meeting held by the Parish Council since the Council was formed in 1894. The Virtual Meeting is a necessity, following Government guidance regarding Social Distancing and the subsequent Lockdown of Great Britain - due to the worldwide Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic. The meeting will have a reduced Agenda. PRESENT:- Councillor Mrs M. Gilbert (Chair) Councillor Ms L. Hopkin, Councillor J. Wilton, Councillor J. Wheatley, Councillor Mrs S. Wheatley, Councillor K. Page 14 & 15 – Useful Websites and Where To Seek Further Support Since 2013, the Raising of the Participation Age law has stated that young people must be in some form of ‘education or training’ until they are 18. This can include: Full‐Time Study – this could be a qualification taken at a sixth form, college or training provider, totalling 540 hours of learning time per year, or around 18 hours per week. Apprenticeships – this involves working for an employer while studying for a qualification as part of your training. Usually, work makes up 80% of an apprenticeship and at least 20% (or one day a week) should be dedicated to studying. Traineeships – this is an option for students who would like to do an apprenticeship but may not have the experience, skills or qualifications to do so yet. Traineeships can last up to six months and involve a work placement, Maths and English qualifications and support with finding an apprenticeship. Part‐Time Study with Employment or Volunteering – this could be working in a full‐time job (classed as any work that takes place over more than two months and is over 20 hours per week) or volunteering (again, over 20 hours per week) while studying part‐ time at a college or training provider (totalling 280 hours of learning per year). -
