    DAILY UPDATED CURRENT AFFAIRS–08.03.2019 TO 10.03.2019 NATIONAL The Supreme Court's Constitution Bench has referred the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute case for court-appointed and monitored mediation for a "permanent solution". Supreme Court has appointed a 3 member panel of mediators. Former apex court judge Justice (retd) F M Kallifulla will head the panel of mediators in the case. Other members of the panel of mediators include spiritual guru Shri Shri Ravi Shankar and senior advocate Sriram Panchu. The Court directs that the panel of mediators will file a progress report of the mediation proceedings within four weeks and the process should be completed within eight weeks. President Ram Nath Kovind launched the Pulse Polio programme for 2019 By administering polio drops to children on the eve of the National Immunization Day (10th March) at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. More than 17 crore children of less than five years across the country will be given polio drops as part of the drive to sustain polio eradication from the country. The Mizoram Cabinet approved the proposed Mizoram Liquor Prohibition Bill,2019. Liquor was prohibited in the state from 1997 till January 2015 with the Mizoram Liquor Total Prohibition Act in force. The previous Congress government had allowed opening of wine shops in the state from March 2015. Railways Minister Piyush Goyal announced that all mountain railways in India will now have glass- enclosed coaches. Vista dome coaches have large windows on the sides and glass panels on the roof to provide better viewing experience. Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that 7 crore LPG connections have been distributed within the last 34 months under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).

    COBBLING TOGETHER THE DREAM INDIAN ELEVEN Whenever the five selectors, often dubbed as the five wise men with the onerous responsibility of cobbling together the best players comprising India’s test cricket team, sit together to pick the team they feel the heat of the country’s collective gaze resting on them. Choosing India’s cricket team is one of the most difficult tasks as the final squad is subjected to intense scrutiny by anybody and everybody. Generally the point veers round to questions such as why batsman A was not picked or bowler B was dropped from the team. That also makes it a very pleasurable hobby for followers of the game who have their own views as to who should make the final 15 or 16 when the team is preparing to leave our shores on an away visit or gearing up to face an opposition on a tour of our country. Arm chair critics apart, sports writers find it an enjoyable professional duty when they sit down to select their own team as newspapers speculate on the composition of the squad pointing out why somebody should be in the team at the expense of another. The reports generally appear on the sports pages on the morning of the team selection. This has been a hobby with this writer for over four decades now and once the team is announced, you are either vindicated or amused. And when the player, who was not in your frame goes on to play a stellar role for the country, you inwardly congratulate the selectors for their foresight and knowledge.

    EXECUTIVE BRIEFINGS POLITICS AND ECONOMY: RAGHURAM RAJAN Adit Jain, IMA India June 2016 A fine innings India’s economy is precariously perched. Its current account deficit has crossed 5% of GDP. Fiscal imprudence over successive years has led to high deficits, which in turn have created sticky retail inflation in the 10-12% range. Foreign exchange reserves are down to USD 280 billion and both industrial output and investment have shrunk. Adding to the misery has been a rude shock dealt by the United States Federal Reserve through an announcement that it proposes to taper its bond buying programme. The ensuing taper tantrum is leading investors to dump emerging market assets fearing the end of cheap money. Consequently, the Rupee has come under a bear hammering shedding around a quarter of its value. Liquidity is tight and analysts are worried about external solvency and a balance of payments crisis. Adding to all of this is a threat, most serious, of a sovereign downgrade by rating agencies. All this happened in the autumn of 2013 when an academic from the University of Chicago was brought in to assume charge as Governor of India’s Reserve Bank. In a few months from now, Raghuram Rajan will complete his three-year term in office. The disquiet within the markets is whether he will get a second term. As this note will argue, he richly deserves it. It is within the bounds of tradition that central bank Governors in India are given extensions and usually serve for two terms. Very few have not done so.

With all fixtures locked down, one cricket fan lets his mind wander to what might have been. Vasant Raji, India’s oldest first-class cricketer, passed away recently. He was 100 years old. His passing, perhaps, is a time for cricket to remember and cele- brate some of the other great stalwarts of Indian test cricket too – especially when the coronavirus pandemic has meant no sporting events can take place. In return for a loan of £1,200,000 to the King the subscribers, who numbered 1,272, were granted a Royal Charter on the 27th July, 1694, under the title " The Governor and Company of the Bank of England ". The Bank of England Act of I 946 brought the Bank into public ownership, of the but provided for the continued existence of the " Governor and Company ; Bank of England " under Royal Charter.     With the support of the Government of Japan SUMMARY RECORD OF THE RBI- OECD WORKSHOP DELIVERING FINANCIAL LITERACY: CHALLENGES, STRATEGIES AND INSTRUMENTS 22-23 MARCH 2010 BANGALORE, INDIA Background The RBI-OECD Workshop on Delivering Financial Literacy was held in Bangalore on 22-23 March 2010. It was co-organised by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) with sponsorship from the Government of Japan. Around 170 participants coming from 22 OECD countries and non-member economies (including 4 Enhanced Engagement countries: Brazil, India, Indonesia and South Africa) and 12 Asian Countries attended the workshop – see attached list of participants. Participation comprised senior and high-level governmental officials, academics as well as representatives from the private sector and NGOs. The main objective of this workshop was to advance the policy dialogue on financial literacy (including as a means to financial inclusion) in the international arena and particularly in India, South East and Asia. Participants also shared experiences in implementing good practices (including OECD guidelines), discussed applied research and exchanged on their respective programmes and initiatives. The workshop covered the following topics1 : Financial Literacy as a Means to Financial Inclusion Role of Financial Institutions and other Stakeholders in Delivering Financial Literacy Capacity Building in Financial Literacy: Youth Education Financial Literacy Strategies: Indian, South and East Asian Experience Assessing Needs and Gaps: Development of Baseline Surveys on Financial Literacy and Inclusion The workshop was deemed particularly successful and fruitful by the majority of participants as further highlighted in the evaluation section hereinafter. Back to back with the workshop, the first roundtable of Asian Central Banks on financial literacy and inclusion was held on 23rd March in the afternoon.

Abstract: Advertising industries have executed various techniques in persuading customers to increase constructive responses about their products and services. Celebrity endorsement, one such popular advertising technique employed in influencing the customers. The construction of Brand or Product promotion that engages a popular personality using the reputation of the Brand, Product, or service is known as celebrity endorsement. That is, a celebrity endorsement is a promotional approach of a brand or product recommended by the famous person in the society to the customers or buyers. Here, the notable thing is that the celebrity endorses the brand or product powerfully evoking emotional feelings instead of usual appeal to the customers. In the fast movie world, the public likely to pay less attention to any advertisements in printed or visual form but optimistically get noticed when the advertisements are referred or recommended by their favorite celebrity. People in country like India, always grace about their stars from sports, politics, and particularly from the film industry. This article analyzes and evaluates various celebrity endorsements and emotional appeal, particularly the Tamil cinema actors.
