All right reserved. 8-Day RV Paukan Cruise_Myanmar Heritage (Upstream): Join In tour description Day 1 : BAGAN (EMBARKATION) - SALAY (-/L/D) Board the Ship at Aye Yar jetty 11:00 hours and welcome cocktail in the saloon. After Lunch, walk ashore at Salay, a small town founded in the 13th century with Bagan-era shrines, beautiful 19th century teak monasteries and preserved British colonial buildings. Explore Salay House, a restored 1906 colonial trading company warehouse on the bank of the Irrawaddy. Walk along the town's main Strand Street towards the local market before turning away from the river to visit the beautiful Yoke Sone wooden monastery where you can learn about the beautiful wood carvings and cultural heritages. Pass some interesting Bagan-era monuments on your way to visit Mann Paya, a pagoda with a beautiful lacquerware Buddha, before returning to the ship with a stroll past some of Salay's many beautiful colonial buildings. Overnight on board Day 2 : BAGAN (B/L/D) This morning, transfer by coach to Bagan's largest open market where you will see local products, sellers and buyers are dealing every day. After walking through the market, head to the gilded Shwezigon Pagoda dating to the reign of King Anawrahta, founder of the Bagan Empire. The construction of this complex spanned both King Anawrahta lifetime, as well as his son and successor King Kyanzittha's lifetime. The golden stupa at its centre is said to contain a bone and tooth relic of the Buddha. A short coach ride takes you to Gubyaukgyi Temple where the richly-coloured paintings are thought to date to the original construction period in the early 12th century and you will also see a sand painting demonstration by a local artist. Next to this temple is the gilded Mya Zedi Stupa which offers both a linguistic and a historical significance. For your final stop of the day, proceed to the Bagan Viewing Hill where you will enjoy the sunset over the pagodas and stupas of Bagan before returning to the ship. Overnight on board Day 3 : BAGAN - RIVER VILLAGE (B/L/D) Explore some of Bagan's local markets selling wood carvings, fabric, longyis and rattan products. Visit a workshop to see the ancient technique of lacquerware making. Alternatively, guests can hire a horse cart or a bicycle and explore the site on their own (or) have a splendid Balloon Flight over Bagan (surcharge applied - optional). Back to the ship around Noon and cast off to cruise upstream all day. Stop at River village for a walk. Dinner followed by a Puppet Show on the sundeck. Overnight on board Day 4 : YANDABO (B/L/D) This morning, sail to Yandabo which is a riverside village where you will see mass production of traditional pots. You will have a chance to dig in the story of Yandabo that it's a place where the Peace Treaty was signed in 1826 to stop the first Anglo-Burmese war. Leisurely walk through the village and you have the opportunity to stop at the various family homes and workshops, each with its own unique style and markings. Witness the making and firing of the Yandabo pottery, famous throughout Myanmar. After that, drive back to Myin Mu. Overnight on board Day 6 : AVA - SAGAING - AMARAPURA (B/L/D) Visit Ava by horse cart visiting the beautiful 200-year-old teak Bagaya Monastery, Nan Myint watchtower (27m high) and the Me Nu Oak Kyaung monastery. Return to ship and sail towards Sagaing. On arrival, transfer to Sagaing Hill, hill studded with many Pagodas and Monasteries rich in wood carving and religious art. Continue driving to Amarapura, the penultimate Burmese Royal Capital (1783) to visit a traditional silk weaving workshop followed by U Bein Bridge, the world's longest wooden bridge (1.2 km) and enjoy the sunset there. Overnight on board Day 7 : MINGUN - MANDALAY (B/L/D) After breakfast, you will enjoy a leisurely walking tour in the small town of Mingun. The first stop is King Bodawpaya's monumental, uncompleted giant Mingun stupa. The cracks you will see are the result of the 23 March 1839 earthquake that shook the area. Continue your walk to the Mingun Bell, which was the heaviest working bell in the world until 2000 when the Bell of Good Luck was unveiled in Henan, China. After having the opportunity to stand inside the bell as it is rung, we have time to shop in the local market, famous for its makeshift galleries that display inexpensive art from both local and internationally known artists. In the afternoon, start your Mandalay city tour with Mahamuni Pagoda, then visit to the workshops of gold leaf making and marble carving. After that, proceed to Kuthodaw Paya, which contains the world's biggest book, nearby Mandalay Hill where spiralling staircases lead to sweeping views of the city and its temples and Sunset time at Mandalay Hill. Kyaik Pun Pagoda with 4 sitting Buddhas. On way back to Yangon, we stop at the Allied War Cemetery near Htaukkyan, the final resting place for over 27,000 allied soldiers who fought in Burma.
