In searching for a particular event both of the lists below (3a and 3b) should be checked. Registers are given a catalogue reference according to the circuit or district which deposited the records with us (see list 3c below for circuit/district catalogue codes, prefixed with “M/”). Circuit boundaries are not permanent and it is possible that an individual church will be part of a number of different circuits at various stages of its existence. It is beyond the scope of this leaflet to give a history for every individual chapel. There are also changes to denominational groupings over time: Wesleyan Methodist churches started around 1790; The Methodist New Connexion was founded in 1797 and joined the United Methodists in 1907; Primitive Methodists started in 1811; the Wesleyan Methodist Association of 1836 became the United Methodist Free Church in 1857 and then joined the United Methodists in 1907; finally the Wesleyan Methodists, Primitive Methodists and United Methodists joined to become the current Methodist Church in 1932. There have also been Independent Methodist churches since 1806, with many established in the North-east.     Spennymoor Area Action Partnership Area Annual Review 2013/14 Spennymoor AAP – Annual Review 2013/14 Foreword from Alan Smith, Outgoing Spennymoor AAP Chair I would like to thank everyone associated with the Spennymoor Area Action Partnership for contributing to another excellent year in moving forward and trying to make a real difference in the AAP area. Having been given a clear steer on the need to continue with the key priorities of Children & Young People and Employment and Job Prospects, there has been a real drive and energy to succeed. The major occasion of our year, held in November, was the ‘Your Money, Your Area, Your Views’ event. The event provided the opportunity for members of our communities to vote on projects they wanted to receive funding, to vote on the AAP priorities for the 2014/15 financial year and to have their say on the future budget for Durham County Council (DCC). Overall the event was a great success with over 900 people attending on the day. The event also showed how committed the people of our area are to supporting and improving the community they live and work in. Taking community cohesion one step further, it was great to see that the community engagement processes that have been put in place by DCC (AAPs being pivotal in this) were a key element of the LGC Council of The Year award given to DCC recently. A major role in DCC achieving this accolade was a full day of assessment by an independent panel and for me it was a real boost that our partnership was selected to be part of this judging day.

    Autumn 2020 Inside this issue Parish Council News Lockdown Heros Scarecrow winners 75 VE Day As the year nears it's end we thought that we would give you an update on what Healeyfield Parish Council have been up to in the Parish. Although it has been a very difficult year with the COVID-19 crisis, the Parish Council have been able to fulfil most of our usual services to the villages of Castleside and Rowley. Here is a roundup of what we have been doing. The flower tubs throughout the village have been fully planted and cared for. The grass verges have been cut and strimmed twice as usual, albeit a little bit later than normal. The benches throughout the Parish are currently undergoing a repair or replace program, this is continuing. The defibrillator, located at the side of the village hall, was provided by the Parish Council and it is checked weekly by members to ensure that it is in working order. Our usual annual litter pick unfortunately had to be cancelled due to lockdown restrictions, however we plan to hold one as soon as we are able. Although the Annual Autumn Festival also had to be cancelled, we still held our scarecrow competition. This provided a bit of fun not only for the entrants but also for the people walking around having a look at them. The worthy winners are now in receipt of the Scarecrow Cup. The Parish Council are the trustees of the Parish Wood, and members regularly walk through the woods to check everything is as it should be, ensuring that any necessary repairs to stiles and bridges are carried out in a timely manner.

In a letter dated 20 March 198! the Chester-le-Street District Council invited us to make proposals for certain changes to the boundary of their district with the district of the City of Durham. The suggestion for changes had arisen during the course of the review by the District Council of the parish pattern in their area and involved the parishes of Plawsworth and Sacriston. Durham City Council had not at that stage completed their own parish review, but it was clear that the changes concerned were not supported by them or by the councils of the three parishes in their district which would be involved - Framwellgate Moor, Kimblesworth and Witton Gilbert. We decided to defer action on the matter until we had received Durham City Council's parish review report. ?., In submitting their report in August 1982 Durham City Council opposed all the district boundary changes suggested by Chester-le-Street District Council; Kimblesworth Parish Council wrote to us separately to emphasise their opposition to the ones affecting then. The City Council sent us a copy of a letter from the Durham County Council, however, which said, in relation to the possibility of changes in th^ Kimblesworth Parish boundary, that the Council considered that the villages of Kimblesworth and Nettlesworth (the latter currently in Plawsworth Parish, Chester-le-Street) should be treated as one settlement and that future development should be in relation to a single local plan.
