Dear Chamber Member:

It’s that time of year again where the temperatures dip down low and the holiday spirit soars. There is so much going on this time of year in our All American City, and I want to wish you and yours a very happy holidays and hope the New Year brings you happiness and prosperity.

We have officially kicked off the 10th annual Shop & Dine Westland Holiday Campaign. Shop and Dine is a 6-week multifaceted marketing campaign entitled "Shop & Dine Westland" which promotes Westland's premier shopping district as a location that bears "Everything you want. Everything you need" for everyone's holiday season shopping list. The Campaign includes television commercials, radio ads, billboards on major freeways and digital and social media pro - motions.

As part of the City of Westland’s Shop and Dine Campaign, we will once again be giving away a shopping spree to the Westland Shopping Center. This year we have amped it up and will be partnering with Jay Towers in the Morning to give away TWO $5,000 shopping sprees! Jay Towers, along with the WNIC promo team will be on site giving away additional prizes and doing a live broadcast from the event! Everyone present at the Mall on Saturday, December 14 from 10am to 12pm will have a chance to win the grand prizes and there will be additional prizes given away throughout the event!

As we continue with the festivities at this time of year and upon what I hope was an enjoyable Thanksgiving spent with loved ones, I would like to remind you that the City is hosting Deck the City Hall beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, December 9. On hand to kick off the holiday season in our All American City will be Santa and Mrs. Claus, City officials and all the good boys and girls who call Westland home. I hope you will take time from your jam-packed schedule to find a few minutes to spread holiday cheer with all of us as we throw the switch to light up city hall.

A number of you reached out over the holidays to list your job openings on our Westland Works! page. I hope that you found this to be a useful service and that you were able to find qualified, hardworking individuals to help get you through these busy months. Please keep in mind that we offer this service year round, so whenever you have job openings just contact the Economic Development Department at (734)467-3264 and we will be happy to help spread the word.

The City’s website www.cityofwestland.com, the City’s Facebook and Twitter and our cable station WLND remain the place to go for the latest on news, services and events happening here! Also, be sure to sign up for our E-Insider Newslet - ter on the city’s website to stay up to date on everything you need to know in our All American City.

This puts the total funds raised for community organizations at nearly $250,000 to date in the nine years of the event. The checks were presented to the volunteer organizations at the November 18 Westland City Council meeting. The 16 community organizations who will receive donations from the event include: Friends of the Library, Gateway Family Worship Center, Inspire Theater, Norwayne Community Citizens Council, Norwayne Boxing Club, St. John's Episcopal Church, Westland Civitans, Westland Democratic Club, Westland Fire Fighters Public Awareness Committee, Westland Grange, Westland Area Jaycees, Westland Lions Club, Westland Ro - tary, Westland Youth Assistance and the Westland Youth Athletic Association. To receive the funds, these local organizations provided the volunteer manpower to make this year's event a great suc - cess. The volunteers these groups provided served as greeters, grounds crew, and ID checkers, among a variety of other roles in an effort to cost effectively operate the annual event. "Being able to give back to the organizations and volunteers in the form of a check, is a wonderful feeling because we know that these funds will help the Westland civic groups do great things within the community," commented Chamber CEO, Gretchen Heinicke. "It is my pleasure to work with the volunteers and I appreciate all that they do during the event and within the Westland community." Next year's Blues, Brews and BBQ will take place on August 7 and 8, 2020. November Coffee Connection Well Attended!

On November 19 the Westland Chamber hosted our first ever in-house Coffee Connection. Over 27 Chamber members filled the Board room and spilled out into the hallway! Don and Gayle Nicholson sponsored the event and provided us with coffee, juice, donuts and bagels. If you would you like to host a Coffee connection or After Hours at your location, we have open - ings in our 2020 calendar. Hosting an event at your location is a great way to let other members know about your business and services.
