VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA Office of the National Chaplain Taps January/February 2013 HUGH ROCKWELL “Rocky” ADAMS - Died Monday, December 3, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT, Columbus, Mississippi at the age of 77. He was a resident of Steens, Mississippi. The cause of death was cancer. He was born February 19, 1935 in Tacoma, Washington to the late Paul and June (née Jeffords) Adams. He served as a United States Navy Officer for 21 years. Mr. Adams was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church. He was also a member of several organizations: a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America – Columbus Chapter #997, American Legion Association, Veterans Foreign Wars, Disabled Veterans Association, National Rifle Association, Bass Masters Association, Green Oakes Golf Course, and a card carrying Republican. In addition to his parents, Mr. Adams is preceded in death by his brother, Joe Adams. Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 44 years, Frances O’Neil Finch Adams, Steens, MS, children-Keyla (Bruce) Peters, Greenfield, CA, Deborah (Tim) Hillman, Clinton, WA, Tammy (Al) Bell, Moline, IL, Roxanne Broderick, Central Point, OR, Connie (Peggy) Bauer, King City, CA, Larry (Kim) Lee, Bothell, WA, sisters- Sandy Smith, Minnetonka, MN , Donna Knight, Albuquerque, NM, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, Sadie the dog, Shorty the cat, his friends Red Taylor, Charlie Underhill and many others. A memorial service was celebrated on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the New Hope United Methodist Church, Columbus, MS with the Reverence Sarah Windham officiating and the Reverend Stacy Douglas assisting.
