International Student Funding U-M FELLOWSHIPS Deadline Rackham International Student Fellowship October The Rackham International Student Fellowship assists outstanding international students, particularly those who may be ineligible for other kinds of support because of citizenship. Chia-Lun Lo Fellowship October The Chia-Lun Lo Fellowship assists outstanding students in Rackham programs who have earned a previous degree from a university in Taiwan. Center for the Education of Women Scholarship Program January The CEW Scholarship Program for returning women students was established in 1970 to honor the academic performance and potential of women whose education has been interrupted and to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of the admission of women to the University of Michigan. Barbour Scholarship January The Barbour Scholarships were endowed at the University of Michigan in 1917 by Levi Lewis Barbour for women of the highest academic and professional caliber from the area formerly known as the Orient (encompassing the lands extending from Turkey in the west to Japan and the Philippines in the east) to study modern science, medicine, mathematics and other academic disciplines and professions critical to the development of their native lands. IIIF February The International Institute Individual Fellowships are designed to support University of Michigan students, regardless of citizenship, who are enrolled in a degree program and wish to participate in internships or conduct research abroad. Award amounts are up to $5,000. There is no preference for particular fields of study and the International Institute aims to fund a diverse array of students and projects. Robin Wright Graduate Fellowship February The Center for the Education of Women announces the Robin Wright Graduate Fellowship with a grant of up to $4,000. The fund will support research by a graduate student from the Islamic World or Africa matriculating in the Rackham Graduate School. This information is reviewed and revised periodically. MLibrary has a number of free web resources for funding study in the U.S. EXTERNAL FELLOWSHIPS & GRANTS Deadline AAUW American Association of American Women Education Foundation August International Fellowships: Awards for full-time graduate or postgraduate study or research to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Supplemental grants support community-based projects in the fellow's home country. Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation August Welcomes proposals from any of the natural and social sciences, and the humanities that promise to increase understanding of the causes, manifestations, and control of violence, aggression, and dominance. Johann Jacobs Foundation September The program is specifically designed to help scholars from developing countries in Asia, Africa, Middle and South America, and Eastern Europe. Grants are awarded three times a year (September, December, and May). United States Institute of Peace September The Jennings Randolph Program awards Peace Scholar Dissertation Fellowships to students at U.S universities researching and writing doctoral dissertations on international conflict and peace. Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program October Brings accomplished mid-career professionals from designated countries of Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Eurasia to the U.S. for a year of study and related professional experiences. Eligibility criteria: undergraduate degree, 5 years of professional experience, demonstrated leadership qualities and record of public service, fluency in English. Sigma Xi Grants-in-Aid October Small research grants for graduate students in science engineering and science and technology. Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation November Fellowships designed to encourage original and significant study of ethical or religious values and implications in all fields of the humanities and social sciences. DOE Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) program December The SCGSR program supports supplemental awards to outstanding U.S. graduate students to conduct part of their graduate thesis research at a DOE national laboratory in collaboration with a DOE laboratory scientist for a period of 3 to 12 consecutive months—with the goal of preparing graduate students for scientific and technical careers critically important to the DOE Office of Science mission. The International Peace Scholarship Fund is a program which provides grants- in-aid for selected women from other countries for graduate study in the United States and Canada. Josephine de Karman Fellowships January Special consideration will be given to applicants in the humanities and those who have completed qualifying examinations for the doctoral degree. Study must be carried out and all funds expended only in the U.S. Roothbert Fund, Inc. January Small grants for those who can satisfy high scholastic requirements and are considering teaching as a vocation, whose daily actions appear to be prompted by spiritual motives. Must be currently in the U.S. when applying. Phi Delta Kappa Graduate Fellowships March This program is for Phi Delta Kappa members only. Applicants must be pursuing a graduate or doctoral degree program in educational leadership and must be full-time students during the year of tuition and fee awards. Aga Khan Foundation March Provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies. Countries include Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar, Syria, Iran. Note: The Foundation gives priority to requests for master's level courses. Joint Japan/World Bank Scholarships March Regular JJ/WBGSP Scholarships: Master’s-level graduate scholarships for studies in economic and social development. Applicants must be citizens of World Bank member countries. (See website for detailed list of eligibility requirements.) VARIOUS DEADLINES & DATABASES Alpha Delta Kappa Foundation In the past two years alone, Alpha Delta Kappa members have given nearly 12 million dollars in monetary and other gifts, nearly 2 million dollars in scholarships and have provided more than 2 million hours of volunteer service to their communities. American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Fellowships or grants for undergraduate or graduate work Education USA Whether you plan to pursue a short-term or full degree program in the United States, Education USA has the resources you need in 'Your Five Steps to U.S. Study'. Inter-American Foundation (IAF) Funds self-help efforts of grassroots groups to improve living conditions of the disadvantaged and excluded, enhance their capacity for decision-making and self- governance, and develop partnerships with the public sector, business and civil society. Institute of International Education IIE manages undergraduate and graduate level scholarships at accredited academic institutions throughout the world. IIE implements many of the world’s most prestigious scholarship programs and manages global scholarships through our network of domestic and international offices. International Federation of University Women (IFUW) Limited number of fellowships and grants to women graduates for short graduate and post-graduate study, research and training projects. Competitions are normally held every two years. International Reading Association Various research grants/awards in the area of reading literacy learning disabilities, language arts.
