18th ANNUAL SEASON FOR CLOSING CEREMONIES @ L.A. City College, April 4th

The Honorable Mark & Avis Ridley-Thomas to Receive Peace Local Hero Award

Los Angeles, CA: On April 4, 2015, Gerald Rivers and Charles Holt will perform their groundbreaking stage production of Martin & Music at the Camino Theatre at Los Angeles City College (LACC). Martin & Music honors the life of Dr. through his words and music. Proceeds from the event, which begins at 7:00 p.m., will support the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library at LACC.

Following the performance, Common Peace, Center for the Advancement of Nonviolence will present their 18th Annual Season for Nonviolence Local Hero Award to the Honorable Mark Ridley-Thomas, Supervisor, Los Angeles County, Second District, and Avis Ridley-Thomas, Founder, Los Angeles Dispute Resolution Program, and Institute for Nonviolence.

Actor/producer Danièle Watts will emcee the evening, commemorating the anniversary of Dr. King’s assassination. A VIP reception with the Honorable Mark Ridley-Thomas and Avis Ridley-Thomas will take place immediately after the performance and will feature the music of soulful saxophonist, Cal Bennett, and actor/singer Paula Newsome.
