Key Events in the Development of the National Assembly for Wales Key Events in the Development of the National Assembly for Wales First Assembly: 1999 - 2003 This paper provides an outline of the key dates leading up to the creation of the National Assembly for Wales and its development thereafter. It focuses on administrative and procedural events but also refers to some other political or policy developments. The National Assembly for Wales is the democratically elected body that represents the interests of Wales and its people, makes laws for Wales and holds the Welsh Government to account. The Research Service provides expert and impartial research and information to support Assembly Members and committees in fulfilling the scrutiny, legislative and representative functions of the National Assembly for Wales. Research Service briefings are compiled for the benefit of Assembly Members and their support staff.   • Kinematical Model of Hurdle Clearance Technique
    Isas 2004 / Ottawa, Canada 311 KINEMATICAL MODEL OF HURDLE CLEARANCE TECHNIQUE Milan Coh, Milan Zvan, and Bojan Jost Faculty of Sport, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia The objective of our study was to determine the major kinematic parameters that generate a model of hurdle clearance technique on the 4th hurdle in the 110 metres hurdles. A biomechanic analysis was performed on one of the best hurdlers, a world record holder, Colin Jackson. The analysis of the hurdle clearance technique was made by means of 3D kinematic system ARIEL. The subject of the study was kinematic analysis of the take-off, flight and landing. The results showed that the rational technique of hurdle clearance is defined by the following parameters: horizontal speed of CM (centre of mass) in the moment of take-off, the level of CM in take-off, speed of the swing leg during take-off, take-off angle, time of the flight over a hurdle, level of CM above a hurdle, horizontal speed of CM in the landing phase, level of CM in the landing phase, and contact time in the landing phase. KEY WORDS: hurdles, technique, model, kinematics. INTRODUCTION: The high hurdles are among the technically most demanding of track and field events. According to some researches carried out so far (Schluter, 1981; Mero, Luhtanen, 1986; La Fortune, 1988; McDonald; Dapena, 1991; McLean, 1994 ), the hurdle clearance technique is one of the key elements defining the competition result. From the aspect of biomechanics, hurdles is a combination of cyclic sprinting and acyclic clearance of ten 1.067m hurdles.

  • Impact of the Recent Welsh Election for Wales
    Welsh Refugee Council Empowering asylum seekers and refugees to build new futures in Wales Title: Impact of the Senedd Elections 2021 in Wales As the dust settles on what has been an unusual election for the Welsh Senedd, dominated as it was by the continuing effects of the coronavirus pandemic, we reflect on what this means for refugees and asylum seekers in Wales. Going into these elections, the three main parties’ manifestos had little to say on asylum. This was despite the major changes to the system being considered by the Home Office and an ongoing debate about the suitability of housing asylum seekers in accommodation like Penally military training camp. Both Welsh Labour and Plaid Cymru committed to retaining the Nation of Sanctuary initiative but made few other references to the issue. Plaid did commit to ending the ‘no recourse to public funds’ rules which prevent most asylum seekers from accessing the benefits system, but the powers to do this sit with Westminster rather than the Senedd. The Welsh Conservatives made no mention of asylum at all. Whilst this lack of attention might be understandable given the all-consuming focus on Covid-19, refugees and asylum seekers in Wales continue to face significant challenges, many exacerbated by the pandemic. The minimal discussion of refugee and asylum issues by all parties in this election is worrying. Given this lack of attention, what impact will the outcome of the elections have in Wales? 1. A Welsh Labour minority government means the Nation of Sanctuary initiative is likely to continue. Jane Hutt MS has been appointed as Minister for Social Justice with responsibility for asylum issues, and as Deputy Minister in the previous government Jane was heavily involved in the development of the Nation of Sanctuary initiative.
